Recently read/watched all of the versions of Welcome to the NHK. Starting with the manga, then the anime, and finally the novel.

I'm kinda curious as to how the manga ended up going in a completely direction from the novel. Like, I understand adding new scenes and characters for the sake of having a decently lengthy series to make money off of and to expand on the ideas presented in the novel, but characters like Satao and Misaki became fundamentally altered and their story arcs completely changed.

I was surprised to find how different and grounded the anime felt by comparison and then even more pleasantly surprised to see it was more faithful to the original novel. Granted, it adopted scenes and characters that were unique to the manga and certain elements such as Satao's drug abuse and obsession with underaged girls became omitted.

Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience. I really felt for all the characters and was fascinated by Satao and Misaki's co-dependency on each other. Despite how destructive and unhealthy it was, there was something genuine underneath it all. A desire to not be lonely and to feel good about themselves.

I also found it interesting how the original author based a lot of the story on his own at the time on-going experiences as a hikikimori. And even after the success of his work, he still didn't quite escape it yet and lived off the royalties he made from the series. It really humanized him in my eyes and made his work that much more authentic.

I haven't really experienced something like this since I first read Oyasumi Punpun. And I still wish that gets an anime adaption someday.

Hello Kitty is going to need to get her mecha out of retirement for her latest cross-over with Mobile Suit Gundam. Both Sanrio's iconic cat and the ground-breaking mecha series are celebrating their 45th and 40th anniversaries, respectively. Both franchises are squaring off on a special website and in a series of animated videos.

In the first episode, Haro calls out to Hello Kitty and shows her Amuro Ray inside the RX-78-2. Hello Kitty decides to take off into space on her own after seeing Amuro in battle.

The official website lets visitors climb inside one of the characters' mechas giving the website either a sci-fi or cutesy feel. Fans can also use the LINE app and follow the "Gundam/Kitty" LINE official account and select which to support. Pariticpants have a chance to win limited edition goods.

Real-escape experts SCRAP are designing a puzzle event based on Gundam vs. Hello Kitty. More details will be announced at the end of April followed by launch this summer.

Even though it's bit on the average side. I can say with validity and vindication that I would recomend Endro~! over High Guardian Spice in a heart beat.

Oh we doing manga panels? I've saved quite a few since I started.

Been feeling nostalgic for the old days of Adult Swim's anime block back in the 2000's before Adult Swim went to shit and became dominated by unfunny stoner comedies (the Toonami revival is decent though)

I've been thinking of "recreating" the feel of watching anime on Adult Swim back in the day and watching a lot of these old titles on Hulu, Netflix, and Crunchyroll.

In particular, I am looking forward to the 2003 version of Fullmetal Alchemist, as well as Inuyasha, Trigun, Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop, early episodes of Bleach, and if its available, the "Red Jacket" series of Lupin The 3rd

I finished The Promised Neverland last night. I really enjoyed it. It's about a group of orphans who discover their foster house is really a human farm providing delicious brains for demons, and how they plan to escape. There's lots of cleverness with regards to how they and the foster mother of the house, who works for the demons, are constantly trying to outwit each other. You kind of have to suspend disbelief that these kids have the same smarts and capabilities as full-grown adults when they're planning all this stuff, but then again, same with sixteen-year-olds piloting mobile suits, so I'll give them that. Animation's not great, character design is kinda weird sometimes, but the story makes up for it.

When I was getting back into anime, I figured I'd just stick to watching the older stuff since it seemed like the new stuff is all just moe blobs blobbing about, but it turns out they've been making some decent stuff recently too. Cool.

I just finished watching the first season of Overlord and dear God is it good! Normally when you combine isekai with MMORPG you'll get something as terrible as Sword Arts Online, but not Overlord. Not only does the author through his creativity manage to make this work, he also uses said creativity to make common tropes of anime and the isekai genre in particular not only not annoying, but also puts interesting takes on it. Aniz is a very likable main character and his NPC underlings are just as lovable and creative in their own ways.

What I also like about our MC (whose real name we never really learn), is that unlike in most modern animu and mango, he isn't a high school kid or a NEET loser. As a matter of fact, in the very first episode he stated that in order to join his guild you had to fulfill two conditions: 1) Have a non-human avatar and 2) Be a functioning member of society.

Overlord had the potential to be a disaster, but instead it turned out to be a gift from Saint Nicholas himself. What got me into this anime is a podcast the boys from Anime Outsiders did on the show. I decided to give it a try and I was not disappointed at least.

It's been a while since I watched an anime where I was not just hyped but outright thirsty for the next episode. All hail Ainz Ooal Gown!
I've read the LN and watched the anime. I would say that the best part is that it has wildly overpowered main characters but avoids the typical isekai pitfall of just lining up mooks to be effortlessly splatted because the actual conflicts are mostly interpersonal in nature. Ainz is actually very, very bad at being an absolute monarch because he was a low ranking salary man with no social life outside of MMO RP. He quickly grasps that he has to RP as a supremely confidant fantasy demon lord while delegating as much actual responsibility to his subordinates as possible. For their part, his subordinates never really question his ability and assume that when he fucks up it was exactly as planned and they only think he fucked up because they don't understand his next-level intellect. Which is funny on the one hand and makes you feel for Ainz who gets in over his head pretty significantly at some points.

Also, the dude who does the illustrations for the LN is fucking amazing at his job.

I just finished Hunter X Hunter and now I don't know what to do.

That scene between Merum and Komugi after the credits of episode 135 actually broke through my shell of myopic antipathy and made me feel something. It was weird.

There's still a lot more of HxH, it's still going... and stopping... and going... and stopping...

Oh, I'm very aware of Togashi's Dragon Quest addiction, I'm just not big into manga at the moment.
Then you're missing out because even with the neverending hiatuses HxH is still one of the best out there. The current arc is a massive clusterfuck of hundreds of characters with different motivations and goals. Kurapika, the men he's hired (featuring Bisque and Hanzo), Hunters, Zodiacs, Princes, Mafias, Beyond's group, Spiders, and a kill-crazy Hisoka all packed onto a giant ship sailing to continent filled with creatures capable of genociding mankind. Since there's no clear villain and the succession battle requires covert assassinations as opposed to normal fighting it means that you never have any idea what's going to happen next or whose going to get killed off.

Keeping track of everything with the frequent long breaks every 10 chapters (the amount needed for physical volumes) is a bit of a pain in the ass but with SJ's site now hosting all chapters of the series they run it should be somewhat easier in the future one would hope.

In the land now known as the Philippines, there was a time when colonial Spain ruled for more than 300 years. During a period when native Filipinos once called Indios were oppressed, exploited, and stripped of their human rights, Jose Rizal was born on the outskirts of Manila. "What does it mean to be a Filipino?" "Is it possible to incite change through knowledge and not violence?" He thought of those every day. A doctor, novelist, and a painter who can speak 15 languages, Jose Rizal is a legendary figure who brought about national revolution through one epic novel!

DU30 will be pleased once he visits Japan in May, and the new workers that will get more pay than the Japanese will have some reading material on their spare time.

I wonder if Duterte will ever make the same mistake Marcos made when it came to anime...

I finished all three seasons of the anime and I'm still in love with this franchise. The only bad thing I have to say right now is that there is no season 4 yet and if rumors are to be believed there won't be one until 2021. I just recently started the light novels as I heard they go a bit more into detail.

One of my favourite things about Overlord is how Aniz interacts with his subordinates. While the kindness he shows towards humans is cold, pragmatic realpolitik on his part, the kindness he shows towards his subordinates, especially towards the floor guardians, is genuine. Sometimes I think that he's acting more like a dad towards Aura and Mare than like a lord. One of my favourite scenes is the dialogue Aniz and Albedo have before the final fight of the first season which also explains why he means so much to them.

I always lost my shit whenever Demiurge assumed that everything Ainz did was some epic 4D chess move while Ainz is just trying not to freak out. Now Ainz himself isn't an idiot, he's actually quite bright on his own; but he's nowhere near as much of a 4D chessmaster as his underlings make him out to be. In fact, one of the show's themes is Ainz trying to live up to the hype they cultivated around him.

Speaking of Demiurge, I am fascinated by the fact that a guy who is basically the anime demonic equivalent of Josef Mengele ended up being one of my favourite characters.

I never get enough of Albedo and Shalltear. Now in any other isekai series they'd be annoying and grading, but here they are a treat. Albedo having a collection of Ainz body pillows and plushies was a spectacle to behold.

And finally the art, the beautiful art. It's a treat for both the eyes and the soul. Every single one of the pictures you posted could be used as a metal album cover.
