Question for anime people. I don't care much about anime nowadays, but I kinda dug it about 20 years ago when I was in college and Toonami was hot shiz and all that. Looking at today's stuff, though, it doesn't much appeal to me. Is there a streaming service which has stuff from the '70s-'90s? I'm aware of CrunchyRoll, but from what I remember of the last time I checked it out, it didn't have anything older than ten years or so. Netflix had Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro (which is amazing) and Robotech, but nothing old besides that that I'm aware of. (Seeing that clip of Armitage III in the Vic Mignogna thread brought this about. I think I've seen that series, though I don't remember anything about it.)

Yeah, I know I can probably find torrents on shady sites, but I'm too old for that crap.

Acquiring anime is a reliably safe venture. Message for details.

Anyway, I recommend Space Battleship Yamato 2199.

You're SOL, then.

(Which actually sucks, though, especially since a lot of old titles are in limbo and the home media goes for so much on Amazon and eBay and shit that you can't blame anyone for turning to piracy.)

Corocoro released more information on the upcoming Pokémon movie.

Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution
Pikachu and the others have been turned into full 3DCG!!

Another major plotpoint in the movie is...
MEW!!
Mew appears in this summer's new Pokémon movie, the one that currently has everyone's attention! What is the connection between Mewtwo and Mew...‽

(Kari notes: :story: Get it, 'cause kids are dumb.)

Mewtwo was seen flying through the sky in the teaser trailer. And Mew could be seen in front of him!!

Mew appeared in the teaser trailer as well!!

Mew:
A mythical Pokémon. It's a crucial key component in Mewtwo's birth...‽
Mewtwo: It's said to have almost the exact same genetic makeup as Mew.

Premieres Friday July 12th!!

Anime: At long last, we get a Grand Trial in "Pocket Monsters Sun & Moon"!!

(The anime is currently airing every Sunday at 6pm on the TV Tokyo network!!)

In the episode airing February 17th, Satoshi attempts Hapu'u's Grand Trial! Pikachu is in bigger trouble than ever before!!

*How will Satoshi and Pikachu fight against Hapu'u, who they've already lost to once before?!
*Their opponent is a Banbadoro, who's a Ground type: Pikachu's weakness!
I'm just wondering how the humans are going to look in CGI this movie. Or are they mostly going to ditch them and focus on the Pokemon more?

Yeah, that's everyone's biggest concern at the moment. If the Rudolf the Black Cat movie (...trailer) is anything to go by:
I think Ash and company are going to look okay. My personal disappointment is that it doesn't look like they bothered to make the attempt for some fur effects, but I can't exactly blame them. This is OLM just testing the waters with the franchise.

Someone pointed out Mewtwo's character model looks like it came from Pokkén Tournament, but he's better here because he doesn't look like he's been dunked in body oil.

I always thought Kira and Lacus were enjoyable. One is a huge mary sue and its played off like thats a huge tragedy which is hilarious. The other is an idol who people look up to more than they do their leaders because every Cosmic-era leader is absolutely exceptional and despicable with the exception of Chairman Durandal.

I can't say I really cared for any of those with the exception of Thunderbolt Season 1, F91, the first episode of The Origin, and Stardust Memory. Even then only Stardust Memory and some of the Origin's first episode felt like it added something nice onto the UC era. And Thunderbolt, while adding absolutely nothing of value to the existing stories in UC was basically the only one that actually did something interesting on its own with its surprisingly good characters, imagery, music, and visual style. F91 didn't really add onto UC in any meaningful way or stand very well on its own, but it did have a mix of brutal Gundam deaths which I greatly enjoyed and Iron Mask being a hilarious villain who can be summed up with: https://youtube.com/watch?v=oe0UiwI8AgE There's also the blatant Star Wars influences which actually turned out to be a little more on the line of plagarism with the music. I genuinely thought I was listening to music from Star Wars in some scenes. The first episode of the Origin showed a little bit of Deikun Zeon which was nice as we only ever got to learn about him via propaganda and other characters. It also established the idea that the Zabi family may not have actually even killed Deikun which is pretty interesting to me. Instead it was drilled into Char's head from people like Jimba Ral that they were behind his death. This doesn't really make them any more innocent though as they benefited greatly from his death and did even more sketchy shit, but it certainly does add a bit of mystery and tragedy to Char's background.
Crossbones as a stand alone is amazing imo.
I agree that it was neat af to add depth into deikuns death but also I still believe the zabi's were behind it but with that I think the most important question of whom in the family would do such an action. and I'd say there's really only 3 suspects. Sasro, Gihren, and Kycilia Zabi. Which even Degwin called them (Gihren and Kycilia) war mongers essentially. (I think he also referred Dozle as such) but Dozle didn't seem so war hungry moreso as just a man who just did his duty as a proud soldier and citizen of Zeon, and obviously Garma was like 12 or something and even at military age was seen as a honest and kind child (although that was Degwins insight of him) overall I'm glad it kept a mysterious aura surrounding it. Because maybe they actually didn't do it and could of been the feddies. Because around Zeta and even in 0079 we saw that the feddies weren't really true heroes of the war. Even Bright said he never knew what the heads were up to. (also the weapon manufacturers probably had power of decision making within the government) so another interesting culprit could be someone from said weapon manufacturing company

Well that, and they aren't trying to be super photorealistic like the VFX studios on Detective Pikachu are trying to be.

Crunchyroll has a couple of things, largely licensed from Discotek Media, I believe, but unfortunately it's not much of a selection.

You may very well have to torrent. If only we still had an Anime Sols.

I just want to say that I started Wolf's Rain for the first time last night, and that I have to keep reminding myself this was released back in 2003 because the animation's so fucking gorgeous. I honestly find it almost hard to believe this came out at roughly the same time as Scrapped Princess, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Chrono Crusade, I keep thinking this was, like, a 2007 anime, kind of like Baccano!.

More dubs

The difference in this one is that they change the song to a song from The Wizard of Oz and say wrong cartoon, even though that wasn't a cartoon.

The difference in this one is that in the dubbed version they break the fourth wall.

Plus several Western takes, but the Japanese ones are the best of the bunch.

I can’t really recommend the 1982 Toho Oz because, while it’s a faithful take on the novel, the character designs and animation are pretty stiff. The English dub, for whatever reason, has Dorothy voiced by Aileen Quinn (the film Annie).

The TV series version, however, I heartily recommend. It adapts four of the Oz books (the first three and the sixth). I have the cut-down movie versions of Wonderful Wizard and Marvelous Land on VHS and they’re not only faithful, but have fine character designs and animation.

Having read the newest OnePunch Man chapter, it’s good to see just how much of a fuck Sweet Mask is.

There’s the likes of kissanime but they do have a lot of adverts, plus you have to register (For free) if you want to download files.
