Hellsing Ultimate's English Dub finished today...

Finished Gundam 00: Season 1. While it's a bit rushed and lacking in multiple areas, sometimes severely so, mein gott. What an awesome season. Onto season 2!

So here's a list of all the anime series I liked in no particular order:
  • Cowboy Bebop
  • Mushishi
  • Ayakashi/MoNoNoKe
  • Samurai Champloo
  • Rurouni Kenshin
  • Moribito
  • Ghost in the Shell: SAC
  • Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo
  • The Big O
  • Paranoia Agent
If I didn't list it I didn't see it, didn't like it, or don't remember it.

Some of my favorites:
* Daiguard
* Cowboy Bebop
* Martian Successor Nadesico
* Mazinkaiser SKL
* Ramen Fighter Miki
* Irresponsible Captain Tylor
* Gundam 00 season 1

...It's really easy to understand my tastes, isn't it?

Right now, I'm taking a break from 00 and looking at Gundam Seed. Specifically the remastered version on Gundam Official's youtube channel. Before I knew it, I had finished 6 episodes in 2 days. So, I think it's safe to say I'm liking Seed and have another series to jump around. As it stands I'm:

8/42 Mobile Suit Gundam (I'm not counting the episode Tomino wanted removed from the English release)
15/49 Gundam Wing
6/48 Gundam Seed Remastered
3/25 Gundam 00 season 2

...I knew it. That new girl on the bridge in 00 has the same voice actress as Pinkie Pie. That same, annoying voice. Fuck me.

This is my new favorite thing. It's basically Sega: the Animated Series. The main characters represent Sega's three major consoles (Dreamcast, Sega Saturn, Mega Drive), and they attend a school where lessons are conducted via entering the world of various Sega games and completing specific tasks, like winning 100 rounds in Virtua Fighter using moves from the game, or rescuing two specific characters in Space Channel 5.

Plus, Dreamcast is voiced by the girl who played Gokai Yellow in Gokaiger. Always a plus.

Well, Naruto's over. Not a bad ending.

That reminds me, starting tomorrow I'm catching up on One Piece.

Am I'm the only one who see Evangelion as a genuine show with the theme that you mustn't run away from your problems, facing them ahead to change as opposed to the viewpoint that the show is mega deep and stuff? I know there are legit symbolism, but part of me thinks that some people overblown the symbolism aspect of the show. Any thoughts?

Depends, really. It certainly uses a lot more psychological exposition than most anime, like pondering what constitutes a person in general and what forms an identity. Doesn't seem like there are many shows that do that kind of thing anymore. Of course, I am also referring to the original run of Evangelion and not the Rebuild, as that seems to have taken off the philosophical edge of its predecessor.

If you're talking about religious symbolism, then no, I'm pretty sure Anno has been quoted saying that he used religious symbolism because he liked the look of it rather than any connection with actual religion, and that a lot of the similarities occurred purely by coincidence alone.

- I'm interested in seeing what Evangelion: Final will be like in 2015 on its 20th anniversary. I love all the original run and all the movies, including End of Evangelion. It's that anime I can go back to after a couple of years and not feel mortified that I happen to enjoy it.

- Trying to get through Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, 2nd Gig and Solid State Society again when I have the time. Not really a fan of the direction Arise has taken though with Motoko being a teenager; I really liked the movies and SAC.

- Hoping that Berserk is finished within the next couple of decades, and that it doesn't get a massive hatchet job just so Miura can go back to fap over Idolmaster. I liked the movies despite everything they left out, and eagerly await future arcs with the hope that they really do justice with the Retribution/Birthright arc.

Well, Naruto's over. Not a bad ending

It was okay. I think Kishimoto admitted he has trouble writing female characters, which more or less explains why I didn't enjoy Sakura and Hinata's lack of depth. Hell, I think Bulma was a better written character, and she wasn't even especially powerful.

I found this alternative ending especially funny though:

I'm gonna go watch Grave of the Fireflies for the first time. It takes a lot to make me cry, so I hope I won't be disappointed.

Update: Sad, but it didn't get me.

I always thought it was Seta's fault for the way the events turn out at all, though if you listen to this podcast, apparently there's more to this than I ever thought before.

I've been watching the entirety of Sailor Moon because of nostalgia and SMC, and I'm currently on Sailor Stars (last season).

I've heard that SuperS is the least favorite and holy shit, people couldn't be any more wrong. I have a soft spot for SuperS because lol circus stuff is cool and I honestly like the filler arcs, but man, I feel like I shouldn't be The Only One that dislikes Sailor Stars.

I don't care for the Starlights' designs (Their hair reminds me of gross, trashy rat-tails and their man-faces look kind of out of place, or maybe it's just the fiveheads), Sailor Moon's new outfit looks really ugly (SAILOR MOON'S SKIRT IS NOT BLUE!!!!!!), the new characters are wearing lingerie/sexy revealing clothing for some reason when past characters' clothing have been pretty "modest", everybody's a god damn "Sailor X" now, there's another younger and more annoying Chibiusa, Usagi's love interest of the season is especially eyeroll-worthy, it doesn't feel like the Inner Senshi do anything, and the Monster of the Week plot feels even more predictable, or maybe I'm just sick of it. /15+ years too late

And I still don't know what the fuck "Star Gentle Uterus" is.

I agree, Eternal Sailor Moon looks so tacky. Her puffy sleeves and wings... Blech. If it's any consolation, Seiya isn't really a love interest. Usagi's not interested in him (notice how she's been remaining faithful to Mamoru?), and he completely forces himself on her. It's a shitty relationship that's gotten a lot of flak. You're definitely right about the inner senshi, they're all pushed aside to make room for the Starlights.

It's a mystery. Maybe Maker is firing eggs from her ovaries.
It's funny you mention that, actually, because I did the exact same thing recently. It made me appreciate the original anime that much more. God, Crystal sucks. I'm gonna keep watching, but there's just so much that is wrong with it.

@R.A.E.L.

The puffy sleeves and tacky wings are a part of Eternal Sailor Moon's uniform I don't like too, but the skirt really bugs me for some reason. I know yellow = moon lols! but I guess I'm used to the iconic blue skirt. I feel like CWC when I get butthurt about the skirt. :heart-empty:(:_(:heart-empty:

Yeah, I know Usagi's not all over him, but I still kind of consider him sort of a love interest because he's clearly written to test her love for Mamo-chan~~~. Like damn Naoko, we know they're eternal galaxy soulmates and shit, who fucking cares? It's a typical shoujo plotline. Boyfriend is gone, suddenly... competition!!! Will shoujo protag fall for this handsome stranger or will her love prevail!!! Bleh.

Just get this rat-tailed motherfucker out of here. Apparently they've got the dorky ponytails for merchandise reasons (Short-haired dolls are hard to make? And adding a dumb ponytail makes it easier?! What?!?!?!) but it's such a bad hairstyle. I'm so used to seeing it on gross old guys who think they're too good for a mullet or something.

I just don't give a fuck about the Starlights, they don't do anything useful or anything that makes me care about them. They're just another pile of characters from a universe fighting for themselves. Great, Sailor Moon knows how to save people from the Star Seed stuff without letting them die, we don't need the Starlights anymo-Oh right, they're looking for their Princess, ugh.

I'm assuming it's supposed to sound "girl power"y but it just sounds really dumb and weird. Maybe Naoko was just trying too hard to make the final arc more "mature" with the revealing outfits, whatever that catchphrase is, et cetera... There were a few "panty" shots (It's part of the Senshi's uniform, yeah, but...) in the beginning of the season when I don't recall there being much in earlier seasons.

I honestly don't mind Crystal (shame on you) despite its flaws. Sometimes I hate catching up on Sailor Moon because the art's so dated and I'm not a big fan of excessive goofy anime faces.

And the Naruto/Sakura fans are still pissed off. Its the end of Harry Potter and Avatar: the Last Airbender all over again

Even though I won't be watching the Viz redub, I have to admit, Amanda Miller makes a great Sailor Jupiter. Definitely the best voice out of the cast I've heard so far. She actually sounds like Susan Roman.
