Yeah, someone here referenced Steven Steel and JJBA and I looked them up. At which point events eventuated and I wound up staring at the page for "Ticket to Ride" going " ... huh. That's a thing."

I'd like to start from the beginning--no point in jumping in at the middle. But if it's just one weird standout arc giving me a false impression of the series' tone, I'd prefer to know ahead of time.
The weird Stand stuff doesn’t start showing up until Part 3. So you’ve got two Parts to enjoy before that.

Does JJBA really hold up to the surface-level promise of sheer insanity? Also, anime or manga?
It's a coherent story (mostly, when in doubt it just works) and it's not like people only pretend to enjoy it to fuck with you. Manga and anime are both good, the anime is really well adapted and easier to get into. The manga allows you to appreciate the poses and Araki's "unique" take on human anatomy more (before he actually got good at it in the later parts), but they usually recreate these 1:1 in the anime anyway. I'd say watch the anime and if you really enjoy it, re-read your favourite parts from the manga.

This has been bugging the shit out of me for months now, so I just want to get this off my chest that everything about this poster for Island just looks wrong but I don't know how to explain it. Which is appropriate because it's such a shitty anime and I hate looking at it and I feel like I'm the only one in thinking this.

Currently reading Goblin Slayer Chapt 24 and I have to say, I really enjoy the manga. I mean, it's pretty much just a straightforward action manga, but it is well executed in that regard and the characters and their interactions are a lot of fun to read.

i binged and finished one punch man before it gets pulled from netflix. holy shit, that was awesome

Geoff's a shill and shit, but you know, a broken clock's right twice a day. Or at least appeals to me in some way as someone who likes dubs, even though there's still a few things I disagree with in the video.
Unfortunately, there's no mention of Speed Racer (the iconic English opening, come on, Geoff, Canucks can't be that oblivious to Speed Racer, can they?), Samurai Pizza Cats or any other of Saban's dubs, or just anything older than Dragon Ball in general, he was just stuck on "muh childhood". In fact when he went on to talk about English songs keeping the original Japanese music, there's not anything from Pioneer, either. Which sucks because the ones that I've seen are actually really good (okay, maybe not "I'm a Pioneer" or even the Magical Girl Pretty Sammy one, but eh).

Awwww I can't find the English ending for El-Hazard. Dammit, guess I can't share Melissa Fahn's lovely vocals.

Maybe this could've gone in the Digibro or Weebs thread (or in whatever the megathread for anime review spergs will be) 'specially to avoid double-posting, but I still wanted to share the English songs.

Though it's not the exact video, this is a ytp, but is this the English cover of the ending to El Hazard?

I like how Magic Knight Rayearth got multiple English dub versions of the original TV series opening.

First on the Sega Saturn before the anime itself got a western release:

If I remember correctly, Magic Knight Rayearth was also the last Sega Saturn game ever released in North America.

Then, in 2000, the Media Blasters version:

Though the greatest dub opening for Rayearth was the Mexican version, where they used, for the theme song of an anime about school girls who travel to an alternate world and become magical girls that was based on a shoujo manga created by a group of women, only the most manliest-sounding macho men.

(Yeah, obviously that last one isn't an English dub since it's in Spanish, it's just a bonus.)

Is a adaptation of a so/so visual novel, by default all the VN adaptations are trash because adapting the medium is a huge pain in the ass, is a shame because there are actually good VN for example the original Grisaia trilogy is pretty good but they got hit by a subpar anime adaptation, it took me taking several screenshots to convince people to actually play the game and ignore the anime, you need all the snark in their undiluted form to really appreciate it, but if you tolerated the anime then play the game, iirc is on Steam (Grisaia and Island)

No, that's from the OVA and it's sung by the same woman from whomever sings Ayeka's part from "Up-Walk in the Galaxy" of Tenchi Universe (can't find who she is, thought it was Sandy Fox but it might actually be Rebecca Forstadt). I was looking for "Clever" from The Wanderers TV series. I don't know why they had that woman sing anything lol but she sounded closer to Etsuko Kozakura's vocals--you know, the one who looks like a Japanese Who.

But thanks for the video, that was... quite something lol.

I actually did find the song I was looking for, but it's in shitty quality. >:/

That is fucking amazing. I hope those guys actually voiced the mechs in the show.

I don't play visual novels, don't have the right OS for it, but I will forever love CLANNAD as my favorite anime. I've looked into what the original VN was, and the anime improved on it, at least for Nagisa's route. I think that despite the shaky first season, it also handled turning down the other girls for Tomoya to go down the "true end" better than other dating sim adaptations. KyoAni wasn't really half-bad when it came to Key's adaptations; I like Kanon, though Air had the problem of being twelve episodes long. The Toei movie I felt was better, if only because it focused solely on Misuzu. (On the flip side, didn't like the CLANNAD movie, and I'm neutral about the '02 Kanon adaptation.)

I do have to wonder if KyoAni could've saved Little Busters!, though. J.C. Staff did the first season as a two-cour, but it was just so dull. Refrain felt rushed, but then again, I binged the first season, then ended up waiting a year to watch Refrain 'cause I was just so disappointed with it.

8bit must just suck ass, then, I really didn't enjoy Grisaia at all. Feel like it just was one of those "edgelord" series, I just didn't get it at all. I also feel like they fucked up Rewrite as well, from what I've heard about that one, it really needed more than 24 episodes.

Anyone remember Beet the Vandal Buster? I was super into that manga back in the day until it just...stopped and never came back. I think the creator had some major health issues come up.

My brother's starting to collect the manga. Welp, gotta give him the bad news, then. This is like Dragon Eye all over again.

I think it gets to volume 12 and just drops off. No sign of it happening at all. End of the book even has a “next volume” thing. It just never came.

Just read all of the Goblin Slayer chapters available (28 atm) and caught up on the first two episodes. I'm really enjoying it. I love the dark parts, but I also love how it isn't just an edge-fest. There's a lot of page time devoted to Goblin Slayer slowly becoming closer to his party members (especially Priestess) and it's the sweetest shit ever.

Also, I'm amused that this is the very first piece of media I've consumed that's made me actively root for the genocide of an entire species.

Oh speaking of Netflix animu, season two of Castlevania's coming out in a week. I've been meaning to go watch it, so this is cool.

The studio decide to go balls to the wall and added Hector and Isaac from Curse of Darkness, they are really going all out

I happen to have the U.S. Pioneer Tenchi Universe soundtrack CD and I'm looking at the liner notes right now and the only vocal credit given for the English version of "Up-Walk in Galaxy" is to Diane Michelle (for both parts?).

That is so weird. I found an ANN page, and she's only done the ED for Universe as you said as well as the Pretty Sammy OVA. But that's a completely different voice for Ayeka's part. Whoever it is, they also sang the ED for El Hazard: The Magnificent World, it's too distinct of a voice, but I can't find information for who sang that. If that's indeed all her, then I'm fucking impressed (but that voice can barely even hit a note, so I don't believe it's done by one person).

I always just assumed Jennifer Darling sang the Ayeka part in the dub version of the song so I'm skeptical that it's all Diane Michelle as well, but I'm just relaying all the info in the liner notes.

As for the quality of the singing in "Up-Walk in Galaxy", it was supposed to sound like bad karaoke in the Japanese version as well, so "can barely even hit a note" means they did a good job with the dubbing.

I saw a trailer for it and it didn't look that promising tbh...
They changed a few things about the setting (It's set in modern day Korea iirc), which makes absolutely no sense whatsever.
