Yes, Gundam basically laid the groundwork there. Macross merely followed suit in its own way.

Very true, their later stuff mostly had western control over story and design while Japan served as typical outsource shop.

Since The Mysterious cities of Gold were mentioned, can we talk about how good this show is?
Realistic and competent child characters, georgous aniamtion for its time, trying to be historically accurate (and when it wasn't often documentaries corrected), sense of the adventure, Mendoza's characterization (my fave "adult companion in cartoon about children" probably). I know to some people pacing may be a bit slow, but I like this kind of World Masterpiece Theatre style of storytelling.
It's a shame that continuation that was planned was realized 30 years later by different team and I'm sure with different story. MCoG 2012 is OK show (especially in times when this kind of action-oriented more realistic cartoons are rare), but I wish continuation was made in 80s as orginally planned.

I grew up european with Fox Kids and in early 2000s it played a lot of DIC/Saban shows. I always liked animation in them. Kind of wish more animations was done in this "realistic western character designs but japanese style of animation" instead of going full anime-esque like Voltron, Korra or new She-Ra.

Promare's got a PV out now. It's also announced to be a movie. Fingers crossed for an international theatrical release.
 
So on November 3 and 5 in North America they will show remastered versions Of Bardock: Father of Goku and Fusions Reborn so if anyone finds something that show which cinema show them I'd be interested in finding out

Here's my hot take on goblin slayer, speaking as both a massive weeb and a feminist:

I think there's good reasons to not like goblin slayer, and I think it's perfectly reasonable to be upset about sensitives topics being treated as cheap drama, such as rape. One of my pet peeves is in fact when rape gets used for cheap drama.

That said, I still liked the manga a lot. I think having bits of light hearted screwing around helps make it better than just a constant grimdark edge fest, the characters have pretty good banter, and it's well drawn. Little things like Goblin Slayer asking how ice cream is made are both kind of cute and also interesting, because it gives the implication that the reason he knows so many random things is because he just asks about them.

The anime adaptation is passable, I guess.

I normally don't care much about salt either way, but the sheer level of hysterics over GS makes it's creation justifiable. complaining about Crunchyroll not having any kind of warning about the content is reasonable, writing essays about how it's facist propaganda is just hilarious.
 
I'm having so much fun watching the new 2018 Baki. Baki the Grappler in general is a martial shounen series that even by anime standards is batshit fucking bonkers. The new series intro is pretty dope.

Alright guys, I'm going to Tokyo soon...to know defeat.

I'm just glad Baki's getting the respect it solely deserved decades back when I was reading the manga in "Raijin Comics".

Yeah, it's pretty good. My only complaint is the CGI, it makes the characters look more like they're wearing muscle suits instead of being actually muscled since the muscles don't flex properly as the character moves. Thankfully it's pretty rare.
I haven't caught up but Speck vs Hanayama was my favourite fight so far. Dorian had his moments but seemed all over the place.

Hell, if anything the anime toned those scenes way down compared to what they were in the manga.

Though the manga does also seem to be using the rape scenes to touch on few points that are common cliches in shows of the same genre that the anime kinda glosses over: what with the dude in the slaughtered party who'd normally be Generic Anime Protagonist #53232377371 being painted as being somewhat inconsiderate/self-centered in that he (and to a certain extent the rest of the party) mentions that the goblins have kidnapped women without considering what goblins could possibly want with them - nor what that could mean for his harem adventuring party that's 3/4 women. He even has a generic Anime Protagonist flashback where he's taught by a high-ranking adventurer that the secret to becoming a The Greatest Adventurer is the power of friendship and nothing else before he gets ripped to pieces.

That's probably another reason they hate it to be honest. A lot of the main over-arching themes are about the dangers of failing to take a threat seriously because you consider it beneath and the importance of being prepared for the sake of your own safety and others.

That flashback is actually pretty damn effective and a shame it wasn't also put in the anime.

I really liked this. I mean, the kid got inspired to go on quests by great tales of comraderie and adventure and he sort of takes to heart what the experienced guys told him, to fight valiantly for his comrades and to not leave anyone behind... but the thing at the end, namely that survival depends on the group's ability to work together and the implied experience that comes with it seems to have been lost on him - and that ultimately seals his (and his party's) doom.

I mentioned how these flashbacks feel like they twist the blade in the wound when you watch these likeable characters get slaughtered and raped, but from a narrative point of view, they are really good.
I mean, these careless morons die, but with the tiny flashbacks you can't help but feel a little sad, cause you'd equally just want to watch a lighthearted show about these people going out and fighting their way to glory... It's just a tiny thing, but it somehow fleshes out these characters enough to leave an emotional impact on the reader.
