Currently reading My Hero Academia. About 40 chapters in and I'm actually enjoying it quite a bit.

I never thought I would find myself enjoying a Shonen Jump manga. Holy shit.

Apparently he kept Peter Kelamis from being allowed to attend a Dragonball con.

Schemmel apparently takes great offensive to anyone else voicing Goku or liking a different actor’s Goku more.
Meanwhile Chris Sabat actually went out of his way to get Brian Drummond to play a copy Vegeta in Super.
Ironic how Sabat always came across as the nicer, and more laid back one between the two of them.

That's pretty funny considering the only reason he was ever given a job to voice Goku was because he could kind of imitate Ian James Corlett.

EDIT:

So his Twitter's been a shit-show and he just deleted every tweet he's made since he joined in 2011. Here's some good snippets:

In all fairness, he wasn't too bad IMO, a bit goofy at times but it fit. Ian James Corlett's Goku certainly was a decent, early voice.

For what Saban/Funi early-on revised Goku's character into (from "ignorant martial arts hick" to "karate action Superman") I think he did pretty good.

Now everyone has become buddies and both Schemmel and Kelamis are confirmed in the con.I wonder what may have happened...

I know I probably shouldn't, but I've considered giving Naruto Part I a re-watch for a trip down memory lane. Might be cool to look back at what was once one of the most popular anime series in America way back in the mid-to-late 2000's.

I'll be re-watching the dub for that extra dose of 2005-era campy goodness, and try and look back on the show's peak years before it all crashed and burned and the franchise became a punch line among the online anime fandom.

I'll admit that Naruto Shippuden dragged on for way too long (and wasn't that good to begin with), the fillers in both Part I and Part II got way out of hand, and the fandom was just downright god-awful when it was at its peak, but nostalgia can be a hell of a drug sometimes.

I will also admit that Boruto: Naruto Next Generations and that parody spin-off with Rock Lee are both mildly fun and good for casual enjoyment.

Pretty sure there exists a Kai version somewhere on the Internet that’ll tell you what episodes to skip so you can avoid fillers.

Just read the newest chapter, actually. Can’t wait until they get to the latest big big bad fight(from a few chapters back) in the anime.

Nice. How do you like overall?
Same, is it the villain with the bird mask?
Hopefully they dont pull a AOT and end up delaying the other seasons.

What's the deal with live-action movies/series based on anime? I just don't see the appeal. Something so minor like a hairstyle sticks out like a sore thumb. Like... really, look at this shit:

Is it just me who doesn't understand the appeal to this sort of thing?

No, no it isn't.

I’m really glad Eri and everyone is still involved in the story.

Bird mask guy, yeah. Seeing Deku get to do what he did fully animated will be awesome.

That live action movie was fucking hilarious though. Probably one of the better adaptation out there. They recognized the silliness of the source material and rolled with it 100%.

The appeal of these things are to see the nature of the adaptation, I feel. Anime has incredible potential for live action movies (Rurouni Kenshin trilogy, Speed Racer) but it's very rarely tapped into properly. I look forward to Battle Angel Alita.

Just finished binging Devilman Crybaby. I liked it (otherwise I wouldn't have spent 5+ hours watching it), but I didn't think it was the masterpiece people have been raving about. The soundtrack was fucking amazing, though (I think I've listened to Devilman no Uta 10 times already).

My biggest complaint is that the show was too cynical, and I'm saying this as someone who enjoys a lot of dark, cynical series. I get that the whole show was supposed to be about how bad people can be to an extreme, but the whole “humans are dumb violent apes” motif got old pretty fast. A lot of this could have been offset by the anime showing that there were still plenty of humans who retained their empathy and rationality and were disgusted to see other people's overly violent reactions to the demon threat. Idk, I'm just really not fond of the "humans are the REAL monsters" trope unless it's counterbalanced with "actually, most humans are fundamentally good people." If we lived in a world where the majority of people were violent, selfish assholes then society would never function.

The ending left a pretty bad taste in my mouth, too. I'm not one of those people who thinks that every single book/tv show/movie/etc needs to have a happy ending, but Devilman's ending is just fucking bleak and hopeless. Not my cup of tea.

I'd say it isn't entirely cynical. You still have quite a few characters that aren't complete scumbags. The best example being the devilmen; beings who retained their humanity despite being half-demon. Akira, the protagonist, remains a good person throughout most of the show and only gives up when he sees that one character's head on a pike at the end. Devilman isn't saying that "humans are no better than demons," or however you'd put it. It's more of a "this is what would happen if humanity eventually gave in to their urges." Like a warning of sorts.

That being said, I do feel like they just wanted Devilman to end in a shocking way, whether it fucked up the message or not.
