I agree with you the different voice actors should of been a gag for the shock value of "hey old men voicing school girls" for the first episode and left it at that.
The reason for the old men voice actors comes from an old 4 panel in the manga way before any hint of anime adaptation and referencing that as a gag they got Masashi Ebara and Hōchū Ōtsuka to do the male voiceovers:

What's even better is they've kept doing it with each episode but with different VA pairs. Episode 1's second pair, Noriko Hidaka and Mitsuya Yuji were the protagonists of the series Touch, which is apparently one of the highest rated anime series in Japan. Ep 2's Toshio Furukawa and Shigeru Chiba are both in Dragonball as Piccolo and Raditz, and in One Piece as Portgas D. Ace and Buggy. Ep 3 has Nakao Ryusei and Norio Wakamoto who voiced Frieza and Cell respectively.

Wow thanks for sharing. I always think of Norio Wakamoto as Chiyo's Dad or M.Bison myself. Haven't watched ep 3 yet so looking forward to this.

He pops up everywhere. I can't find clips of it, but he apparently dubbed Vince McMahon's voice at one point

Recently, he voiced the SclashDriver in Kamen Rider Build

Aw snap, the Made in Abyss manga finally got an English release. I'm usually not one for needing physical copies of stuff, but man oh man that art is gorgeous. A welcome thing to help tide me over for the followup to season 1.

So about this seasons anime...
Kokokku is shit, but easily has the best OP of the season
Yuru Camp is cute, but boring
Hakata is dumb fun
Darling in the Franxx is the most hilarious show I've seen recently and I think I love it
Pop Team Epic is still a shitpost
Takagi-san is overrated trash
And Violet Evergarden is okay so far.

In other news, I got around to watching Revolutionary Girl Utena and that was pure hilarious trash

So if anyone remembers that Neo Yokio thing with Jaden Smith, it turns out it’s as shit as everyone thought it would be.

Alright fellow weebs. I've been getting the urge to watch Eva to see if it still holds. So should I go for Sub or Dub? I am asking this cause I want to experience it the best possible way so I could judge it proper. I've had the strange experience of hearing it being extremely pretentious and up its own ass to Its the best thing since sliced bread. Never hear anything in the middle.
The dub was pretty good for the 90's. The changes they make are mostly how some sentences are worded, which change the nuance of their meaning, so if you want a 'purer' interpretation of the show you should go with subs. Some of these differences are shit like, Japanese leaves a plural or something ambiguous while English translators are forced to choose because the language just doesn't allow that.

I tried rewatching NGE and only got up to episode 5 several months ago, and my impression of it based on that is... it's still good. It's visually aged, but a story about humanity will be, in some ways, timeless. The way it's all cut and framed makes me think Anno was already in a dark place before deciding it was definitely not going to be a standard shounen mech show - it's like a cold, hard documentary in the way of long, quiet, introspective moments. I enjoyed those 5 episodes because I already like that sort of thing, but your taste may vary: a post-battle Shinji, silent and staring at a hospital ceiling for a whole minute would've bored the fuck out of teen-me, who watched it for the fights and fabled mindfuck ending. The me of 2017 would imagine what he'd be thinking and try to empathise with this poor kid-turned-child-soldier instead.

Definitely leave behind your expectations based on the show's reputation, but don't be afraid to bring your own perspective while watching it. You'll come away with something different to say from me or anyone who's watched it and that's how people still talk about Neon Genesis Evangelion to this day.

So that potential traitor in BnHA...
Yeah that was my favorite kind of reveal: The kind that's shocking at first, but makes total sense the moment you start thinking about it.

I hope Aoyama turns out to be the "character has limited powers but uses them in wildly creative ways" archetype. Because I love that type of character.

Though there is still the possibility that Aoyama is just stalking Deku, and there's another true traitor reveal.

The Best kind of cliffhanger. Is he actually the traitor? Or is he just being a new level of weird.

People did point out he kinda disappeared during that first villains attack.

'Kay I just got into a brief, somewhat heated discussion/argument with my brother over the ending of Soul Eater, and he says it's one of the most hated endings to an anime ever, and he was calling me stupid for thinking its a brilliant ending. Is there any merit to his claims? Was it really that hated?

Like I don't care either way as long as I enjoyed it, I just don't know what fans really think of it.

It was very “we reached the end before the manga did, so we have to make something up off the top of our head that may or may not actually have anything to do with what happens in the manga” kind of ending. Hence, people got upset with it.

Not that the manga’s ending didn’t have its own issues...
