I don't know if I love or hate the character design but it oddly works in motion. As much trouble as anime has in live action, going more exaggerated might be the way to go.

I think it works in that it looks kinda unnatural, which is how I think a weird humanoid robot should be.

The movie looks good, but the CGI/mocap Alita is a fucking stupid idea that should've died when Cameron stepped down from the director's seat. Looks like it crawled from the bottom of the uncanny valley.

Then again, it's Robert Rodriguez we're talking about, and we know how well he uses CGI.:roll:

I read the manga waaay back in 2004-2005. Easily one of the best series I ever read.

James Cameron announced he was going to be making this movie in 2006 or 2007. I was all on board

I have been waiting for this movie for over a fucking decade. As much as I hope that it'll be a massive smash, I fear it's going to be 2018's Valerian. All the same, I just want this to do the source material justice. The eyes are a little weird, but then again, Alita is a goddamn cyborg, and exists in a world where nearly every other character looks like something from Deus Ex on crystal meth.

I don't allow myself to be excited about a lot of things. I'm making an exception for this. I've waiting too goddamn long to just go "meh."

He's very passionate about this project which makes me excited. As far back as 2003, he was talking about how he wanted to do it but he couldn't due to the cost and quality of CGI needed.
This is an important step for anime adaptations, it crosses the weird threshold but is still grounded in cyberpunk tropes so there's familiar ground.

I know Viz has been publishing JoJo in the States, but I am still waiting for someone to officially release the entirety of Fist of the North Star in the US.
 
I just finished Jitsu Wa Watashi Wa, the entire final climax and resolution at once, and feels is not enough to describe it.
 
I am here to revise my previous statement that there is only one good anime. There are 1 & 1/2 good animes: JoJo and the English dub of Ghost Stories.
 
Is it wrong that I think these beautiful people may have been the inspiration for Team Rocket?
