I have no idea what Robotech is to be honest, I just mean that when I look up Macross music on Youtube I tend to find people finding that show emotional when really Macross is just about singing songs at aliens until everything is okay because CULTURE while UN Spacy bombs everything and somehow gets away with it. Oh and really shitty love triangles. Wait I almost forgot, its also about the good characters murdering tons of civilians and then shrugging it off because everyone in Macross pretends to take the high ground despite actually being the reason Ontario is nothing more than a cloud of dust in the original Macross (that scene was art).
As for Delta, I'll gladly take that second half over episode 25-37 of Macross 7. I would have probably dropped Macross 7 during that fucking dry spell, at least I was comforted with Delta being slow by the fact that it was only 26 episodes. Delta was also the only show where I really wanted the bad guys to win because up until then UN Spacy was always somehow the lesser evil (until the bad guys true plan was revealed because I think the writers realized they made them more sympathetic than fucking UN Spacy).

Robotech is the American version of Macross - as well as two other Tatsunoko animes from the same period, Southern Cross and Mospeada, adapted into one long show.

Sometimes when it comes to depictions of war in anime, people start thinking the series is more serious than it actually is. People see war and they start believing the show has something super important and deep to say, even when it's complete fluff like Macross or Gundam SEED. It's not just anime either, military vets have problems with films like The Hurt Locker for how it affects the perception of serving in Iraq.

Yeah, I do not subscribe to the retarded ruling of r/anime mods that it can only be funded and produced in Japan, perhaps you should go there and tongue their arses some more?

RWBY is very very much a western Anime. It's creator made its initial staff watch numerous anime series as a basis of getting an idea down for the style of story, world, and idea for what he was going for. He then proceeded to outline something like 15 seasons worth of world bible, which they are still working to to this day.

Gray G. Haddock is also hinting he's getting some of the staff to watch some mecha anime in prep for GEN:Lock.

It's a bit like saying Porter D Robinson's SHELTER or Interstella 5555 isn't anime because it wasn't commissioned within japan.

Heck, on this basis, the 30+ shows we're seeing on Netflix next year won't count.

So uh... I started Dragon Ball GT today.

Anyone got some advice? Something tells me the episode "Like Pulling Teeth" can't be much further from the truth (but then again, that's how Toei Animation shows always feel like to me, especially the Dragon Ball franchise). It's also fucking hilarious how this all could've been avoided had Emperor Pilaf not been stupid enough to stay on the Lookout to make his wish.

You're such a card, @Emperor Pilaf.
I remember when it came to GT it was anime no one wanted to make apart from Toei who had dollar signs when they thought it up. I cant recall but as far as I know Akira Toriyama only designed characters for it and that was about it. I also remember for whatever reason they skipped episodes the first airing, I barely caught the unaired ones during a rerun of the show Cartoon Network did.

So I just finished Ninja Scroll: The series, and wow was it painfully average. I probably would have dropped it at episode 5 if I didn't love the movie so much. I don't know maybe it's just me but a lot of action based shows from the early 2000s just don't hold up animation wise. The overly bright color palette, and general sloppiness of digital animation back then just really hurt my enjoyment overall.

My expectations were low, but I thought I would get something entertaining from Madhouse. Instead I got mediocre korean animation, boring plot, and annoying side characters. Why the hell did kawajiri sign off on this?

What's a good starting point for the Berserk manga? I tried reading it from the beginning but the incredibly primitive art and storytelling is making it hard for me.

You can start from the beginning like I did, or start at volume 4, which is the start of the Golden Age arc.

It's a little rough at first because Miura was getting his footing both as an artist and as a storyteller but once you hit the Golden Age that's where he really finds his stride.

Having never been a serious anime or manga fan, I've really been enjoying One Punch Man. The art is beautiful and the characters are tolerable and interesting. God awful formulaic, focus tested character designs have always been what's held me back from getting into weeb shit.

You need to read the original version by ONE. It's amazing.

Watch Mob Psycho 100 afterwards. Same author and studio and a similar kind of story but way different. I didn't think he could top OPM for me but dammit it did, plus the anime's style is wild and unconventional.

I got bored with One Punch Man by the halfway point when it first aired, so I didn't have very high expectations going into Mob Psycho 100, but I felt it was a much better concept (and aesthetics as a whole).

Quick correction, it was Bones who did Mob Psycho, and apparently a new studio may have been involved with One Punch Man alongside Madhouse, but I can't quite find the source that claims it. Regardless, season two's been passed on to J.C. Staff and a new director. Not sure if fanboys have thrown fits about that yet.

Oh yeah, I conflate Madhouse and Bones sometimes because they both put out quality work, oops. I also think anyone who could throw a fit about that has already, but I'm 50/50 about it. The new studio has such a mixed bag of stuff they've done so it really could go either way.

Apparently, Madhouse has lost a LOT of talent to MAPPA. You'll notice their output is reduced significantly from before, I don't think they even have any shows this season! This makes me extremely sad, given that I like their material choices a lot more than the rest.. MAPPA isn't very far either, but their choices are a bit too esoteric/eclectic for my tastes.

I am actually disappointed that OPM is changing hands, especially the director, who I thought did a great job in capturing the general vibe & abrupt tonality shifts of the manga..

I think Madhouse is going to be focusing on the new Cardcaptor Sakura season (probably ran into a similar ordeal as Wit Studio's focus/talent going to Mahoutsukai no Yome and not Attack on Titan), but I didn't know it was MAPPA who took a lot of talent from Madhouse. I was thinking if it was just because they've been having financial problems in recent years, and if so, does that mean Overlord didn't save the studio after all?

I'm really starting to believe Super Eyepatch Wolf may be correct in saying that Redline was the last time Madhouse decided to take chances as a studio that took chances.

I could've sworn I read an article about this, but I can't find it now for some reason, I'll post it here when I do.

MAPPA was founded by Madhouse's former producer & founder, Masao Maruyama.

MAPPA is basically the antithesis of Madhouse in someways, where their series are very varied and eclectic, one season they may be making a series based on an old 90's shonen manga (Ushio & Tora), the next they make one of the edgiest sci-fi series in recent memory (Inuyashiki), in between they made Yuri on Ice, which was quite the risk as well.

Apparently Masao has decided that this isn't enough risk, and has left MAPPA over a year ago to found Studio M2, whose 1st anime was about an Edo-Era samurai detective (Onihei).

http://comicbook.com/anime/2017/11/17/dragon-ball-death-hiromi-tsuru-bulma-anime/

Japanese voice actress Hiromi Tsuru, was found dead in her car today at age 57. The cause is not yet known.
She's best known in anime as the voice of Bulma in "Dragon Ball", Ukyo Kuonji in "Ranma 1/2" and Meryl Strife in "Trigun" - too many to list.

Rest in Peace

Holy shit, that's unbelievable. This comment from the police department, "it may have been due to illness", gives me some nasty flashbacks to Miyu Matsuki's death from pneumonia while Shinometa (Anna was her last role) was still airing, and is making me think there's a nasty can of worms to be opened when it comes to the industry. Like are popular voice actors just not allowed to take time off unless it's really serious? (I'm not watching Dragon Ball Super right now, so I don't know when the last time any of her characters had a speaking role.)

I'm not all that familiar with her work since I mainly watched the works she was in dubbed (anything that was subbed I just can't recall the voices of most characters anyway), but I can't deny it's a big fucking deal such a prolific voice actor has died so suddenly like this. The poor woman, I hope she can still rest in peace despite leaving her work unfinished.
