I'm disappointed that Gudetama Tour is over. Hopefully they'll resume it in 2018.

You can see the Japanese article emphasizes the fact that he was Rerere no Ojisan in the first two Tensai Bakabon series, but I don't think it mentions one of his other famous roles, Matthew Cuthbert in the anime Anne of Green Gables.

Still - RIP...

Are you Kiwis familiar with Oyaji? It's one of my favorite manga shorts I've read in a while. It's about this rugged, brutal looking dude with a criminal background who return to his family after eing gone for 15 or so years. Definately give it a shot if you can handle some violence and the occasional dick shot, it has great humor, nice action scenes and is surprisingly heartfelt. A definite must in my book!

There's also this manga I've read half a year ago, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was called. It's about this underachieving police officer who gets possessed by tiny frog-like aliens that feed on your darkest desires and turn you into a monster, and has to eat the poop-pills of a weird, exposition-spouting owl to keep himself from completely transforming. I can't tell if it's good or bad, but it's definitely interesting! It was kinda like a mix between Garth Ennis' Crossed and Parasyte.

That manga you read was called Jagaaaaaan. It kind of reminds me of Gantz.

The latest episode of Dragon Ball Super (the hour special) was fucking amazing, like literally one of the best episodes the entire series has ever produced.

Noot noot, motherfucks.

Also, I'm getting around to watching Sakura Quest, and it's like, really really good.

I thought this was like people calling Cory in the House an anime, but by God, it does count.
Can't argue there!

But then again, it's a coproduction of a type you don't see much these days.
That's true. There had been copro's like this done in the past many times between Japan and a western company.

I have no idea why i bother with crunchyroll. I find myself reading more manga then watching anime nowadays. I straight up hate the manga reader they have for desktop. also I don't like I can't make a queue for manga. plus a lot of series i follow aren't even on it. I might just canceled my subscription and save my self 7 bucks.

As for stuff I've been reading, finally got volume 3 of Drifter its continuing to be an enjoy. Read the mess that is Revenge Classroom(Weeb:Fukushuu Kyoushitsu) from beginning to end. I might have to do a write of it to really get my thought together about that whole mess. I gave the My Hero Academia spin off Vigilante a shot and it wasn't bad, not as good as the core series, but I wound't might giving it a read once in a while. I am expecting to be a somewhat short series since its a kinda of prequel. beyond that I have long list of stuff to check out.

First it was world literature anime, now it's mecha anime... what's next on the chopping block?

EDIT: I notice the guy cites a report by Japan's "Manga, Animation, Games and Media Art Information Bureau." Let that sink in for a minute...

Late, but I'm hoping it's the "Trapped in another world" genre that SAO really popularized (It's called Isekai iirc). The only one of these shows I've liked is Konosuba.

Eh, more people seem to point toward Naruto and Bleach for why shounen manga is the way it is now (there was a review on the now-defunct Viz Media forums about why Naruto is the beginning of the end of shounen manga as we know it--I saved it on a Word document that I was planning on posting up here eventually, someday, for something), but One Piece has set the bar pretty high for this generation, much like how Dragon Ball did in the 80s and 90s. Can't blame people for trying to imitate its success but not getting it.

Super Eyepatch Wolf did a neat analysis on Shounen Jump that I think would help explain what's up with shounen manga lately, and on top of that, his Bleach video could be like a footnote on the industry (he did a video on Naruto as well, but I don't think I've watched it for some reason...). There's probably other videos out there explaining the state of modern manga and when it might've happened, but one thing is for certain that despite any questionable quality that's come out, manga sales haven't dropped at all, they're just going digital more and more.

As someone who reads One Piece on a weekly basis, I can tell you that One Piece's success is because it focuses on mythology, world building & adventure above the more standard shonen fare like power levels, training arcs and upgrades, sure, it hypes up it's characters and their fights like any other shonen, but the real focus is on the world and the factions that move within it (The Marines, World Government, Yonkou etc), Oda has created so many possible permutations that he has a very big leeway to surprise the viewer.

Also, because Oda has already conditioned the viewers to strange designs, he has a big leeway to surprise them with new designs for islands & characters alike.

The downside here is that this is an incredible strain on Oda as he has to beat his besst effort every arc, but lately he has been knocking it out of the park IMO. We are approaching another peak after Marineford. Plus a lot of people get turned off by the weird designs at 1st.

I don't want to seem like I am overly gushing over the series, especially on my 1st post in this thread, so I will stop here, it has its flaws like anything human made.

I'm probably way late on this, since I've been more or less out of the animu world for a while, but something brought me back. I had heard rumors that Card Captor Sakura was getting a new season next year after, what, 18 years? But I JUST found out that an OVA got released recently and I watched it. Hot damn it was good. It feels exactly like the old show, in the best possible way. Even got the old VAs back apparently.

Seems to be sort of an alternate ending for the show, taking place after the final battle but before the airport scene, and completely ignoring the second movie. The way it handles the events is slightly different, but the conclusion is just as good, if not better. And it's setting up the next season that won't start until... winter 2018. Fine, I've been waiting 15 years, I can handle one more, but God DAMMIT Japan.

Come on, somebody sperg with me about this.
