People don't like the GiTS manga because the anime is as serious as a car crash and the manga isn't. That's literally all it is.

It kind of reminds me of people who only watched DBZ and then tried to read the manga from the start, only to be thrown off by how full of humor it is.

DBZ has humor in it but it's toned down a lot compared to early dragon ball.

Very similar story with GiTS. The manga isn't bad, it's just that it isn't as somber as the anime and so people who watch the show for "the vibes" as the kids say don't mesh well with it.

It's the old beef between anime/manga purists that's been around forever. There are dipshits that are fans of all types of manga and anime that only accept one medium or the other.

Dragon Ball fans are the worst example of this. Anime fans only accept the anime as canon, filler, movies and all.

Meanwhile manga purists only accept the manga.

You can ignore both and admit that the anime took liberties. It's okay guys.

Fullmetal Alchemist has the same problem where fans of 2003 will ONLY accept that 2003 is canon and ignore the manga.
 
Just finished watching the sub version of Berserk 1997 with my girlfriend. Pretty decent, I think I prefer the dub though since it's what I rewatched the most. A lot of the Japanese voice acting isn't as raw and emotional as the Dub.

I informed her to just start reading the manga online after this since there will never be a good adaptation of the rest of the story. It's how I got into the series.

I couldn't finish reading it cause the art wasn't doing it for me but it's not the bane of my damn existence. I think the new anime looks way better than what we've been getting for a while which was 3d slop.

I never liked GiTS, I've already watched Temu GiTS (Ergo Proxy) and found nothing particulary worthy of discussion. I never knew about the manga until you guys talked about it and yeah... I don't like that either.

I'll stay with Mao, thanks. I hope it gets animated until the end, there's a lot of potential there.

I get that Scott Pilgrim takes off was dog shit but Dandadan, the Heike Story, Devilman Crybaby and Inu-Oh were generally well received

So idk where you're getting this from. The Ghost in the Shell manga has also been pretty well received by fans, I know a lot of people that have wanted a faithful to the manga adaptation.

None of these are strong anime to try to prove his point wrong. Sorry. They just look like average seasonal shit.

Devilman Crybaby hasn't aged well at all. For 2018 it was good, for a real devilman work, it falls shorter than the manga. Nothing in Crybaby is remotely as unnerving or horrifying as the manga. The religious events are sanitized rather than having that weight that's in the original story, like leaders realizing the events of The Bible are true prophecy and that science was a waste of time. Shit like that is gone. It's almost too clean and the characters are more used to this fucked up shit rather than properly edgy, and the lord of demons character during the invasion was done terribly, uglier design too.

I hate Devilman Crybaby with all its forced rap sections, there's no good adaptation of devilman really, just read the manga. It's a foundational book, and a mediocre anime.

If you hate the series you're probably best off walking away from it and putting your time into other things you enjoy instead. I'm not trying to invalidate your opinions, I get where you're coming from

I could complain for hours or even days about what they did / are currently doing to Warhammer 40K or Star Wars and many many other autistic things I've enjoyed over the years that I had to give up due to enshitification but I eventually realized my sperging won't unshittify what has already been ruined so I just take my wallet and time elsewhere

Since doing this I save myself so much time, money and frustration
