To be fair a lot of anime try to keep the time pretty ambiguous.

And I can guarantee you if they remade Inuyasha they'd update it to the 2000s.

Well, at risk of sounding like a Broken record here but Takahashi has already more or less done that with MAO. Story takes place in 2023 and time travels to 1923, the protagonist is a better more refined version of Kagome and the deuteragonist is basically a better more refined Inuyasha. The bad guy is even a better more refined Naraku in a lot of ways too.

She tends to make her characters better versions of her previous characters I've noticed.

Kagome is basically Akane but a lot less insane.

Inuyasha is basically Ranma but a lot less stupid.

Ranmas biggest problem is they ended on the Status Quo being maintained. Ranma and Akane never got together, the fiances were still a thing. Etc.

The manga really needed an epilogue that tied up lose ends and gave the characters a proper ending.

Maybe, but then again that could lead to Ranma getting its own Yashahime and I don't think that anyone would want that.

Yashahime should have been about Kagome and Inuyasha's kid, not Seshomarus.

There are other problems with it obviously, but that was the main one that kept me from even starting it. I don't care about Seshomaru, I cared about Kagome, Inuyasha and their gang.

Yashahime suffers from a lot of the same issues that Boruto did tbh. Underwhelming character arcs for legacy characters, underwhelming everything for new characters, plots that go nowhere, distinct lack of charm that the original had, etc.

I remember seeing somewhere that the plot couldn't have a good solution because everyone staked too much honor into the love polygons and 'losing face' would be catastrophic.

Basically as long as Shampoo and Ukyo are technically pursuing Ranma they suffer no further penalties [Shampoo isn't punished further for failing to kill or marry Ranma and loses no face among her tribe, Ukyo can perform femininity rather than go back to a perma-guy identity], and Ranma's engagement to the Tendo family means that if he doesn't, he dishonors them [and there's no way Genma can provide a replacement].

I have no idea if this is correct, but seeing how Ranma's mom was ready to kill her own son because she assumes he consented to die under one of the dumbest oaths ever, it might as well be true.

Ranma is a really fucked up story when you think about it. Now that I've actually finished the Manga, I feel really bad for Ranma. His dad is an abusive cunt, Akane is bipolar, his mom is a psychopath, Nabiki is a wannabe Yakuza and everyone in the town he lives in is insane.

Ranma has his problems but that's because his father failed him.

Takahashi's a fan of romance stories between mismatched pairs brought together by circumstances. What helps Inu Yasha is that its setting isn't a slapstick comedy, which means it doesn't have an excuse to never advance or resolve the main characters' relationship.

Crazy that Konosuba was one of the first isekai exposed to the west when it is a satire, meaning it was known enough to shit on by then, and it was like a decade ago.

Imagine that someone tried his hardest to write a story where the protagonist is a complete retard (well, a well-meaning complete retard) and proceeds to brutalize him repeatedly both psychologically and physically through the cliche'd "every time he dies he resurrects" to a point he feels like a schizo. It feels mean at times, like the author hates the poor retard.

Add to that a love story that's even more badly written and embarrassing than the usual trash slop (the half-elf or whatever is barely sentient) and plot developments that are essentially completely improvised and made up. Ah, also the author hates that the public loved the demon maid character (a psychotic stereotype, but hey, maid dress I guess).

The only redeeming factor in Re-Zero is imagining the point of view of the characters that do not know the protagonist is a die-resurrect time-loop guy: imagine for a moment that the schizo you met for like half a day started screaming how he loves you and you lived together for months and he understands you and can't live without you

I liked the psychotic maid because she had a character even after her initial arc. Like yeah she becomes loyal and submissive to the mc, but it's the one ally he gets in the story. And to be fair to her, he was suspicious as fuck.

Compared to the half elf that doesn't have a personality and shits on him despite him still doing things for her in the canon timeline. There even isn't a justification of the mc falling in love with her because mind control.

But the writer still got assmad and written the maid out of the story.

Really the biggest sin of the story is how no one realizes the mc can time travel despite being the only sane explanation how he is consistently shifts between being incredibly capable and a massive idiot.

You are right, but I just get quite suspicious when something suddenly explodes in popularity and even more so when some cunts are hyping it up constantly.

Any isekai's that I should check out, apart from Konosuba ?

I'm a big fan of technically-an-isekai-but-it's-irrelevant-to-the-plot The Faraway Paladin which always reminds me of 80s pulp fantasy like Dragonlance. It's about a guy who is apparently reincarnated as a baby left in the care of the 3 undead heroes that defeated the Demon King. They raise him to be a wizard-fighter gish who ends off leaving the ruined city they are living at to go help nearby human civilization. Second season has probably the only good Western Fantasy dragon I've ever seen Nippon produce, basically Smaug if he was more manipulative. Only problem is that they've adapted basically all the content since writer fucked off from health issues in '17. Good vibes though.

If you want more sloppy I liked Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy, Kumo Desu ga, Nani ka? and The Eminence in Shadow which all fall along the Person with Autism gets pulled into a world/gets given cheat power/destroys economy continuum but they all don't take themselves very seriously and are filled with fun characters.

Finished watching Dandelion, sad to say it but it's very meh. The setup and characters just don't mesh well so it's not funny or engaging to be worth the time. They should have more leaned into "Angels but Yakuza" than the tired "cool middle aged guy doing things his own way".

Also caught up to Fist of the North Star. The action isn't bad, but, like the ending theme song, it's sped way too much. Should have at least gave one more episode for the first arc.
