Drugs are something that people willfully take, if they fry their brain on it then it's their own fault. Sex trade exploits the weakest part of the population that a lot of time doesn't get any say on the matter.

Yeah objectively drugs cause more damage, but at least with western morality sex trade is worse.
You could have just said "yeah I was wrong, my bad".

A lot of Japanese prostitution is compensated dating or host clubs stuff, which is usually their choice. There is some "I owe money to the mob and have to pay back my debt" or "I am being blackmailed by the bad boys at school and have to make my blackmailers money to avoid the pictures being released" stuff but it's generally not glamorized and is more of a trashy TV drama thing then an anime thing.

Japanese have always had a legal/quasi legal sex trade and never got big into drugs after watching what happened to Big Brother China on the ass end of the opium trade which was used to justify their already isolationist leanings for a hundred years.
You can come at it from the collective vs individualistic perspective.
Japan is big on their service industry and on pleasing to the customer. Conversely there's social pressure on the consumer end to finish quickly and not lollygag around or hold anyone up.

Let's just say that both dope dealers and pimps should be hanged from the neck until dead and be done with it. When I have rats in my shop, I don't waste time measuring which one is the biggest.

"Liar Game" might get very good, edgy play games for money anime, animated by Madhouse; "Daemons of the shadow realms" another shounen by fullmetal alchemist author, animated by Bones; "Nippon Sangoku" had a very good first episode with a decent artstyle and animation by a new studio; "Needy Girl Overdose" for more edge kino.

Those are my picks for now.

Speaking of Liar Game, how has the reception to the visuals been, since it appears to mirror how the manga is drawn? I also heard that the cellphones in the manga were changed to smartphones and tablets.

Is that also a thing for modern anime adaptations of manga that were made before the smartphone era, to now have smartphones in them?

Some of those rats are victims of society, though.
Is there a single good anime this season? Can't see anything good.
Rooster Fighter.

Popping in to say I've been watching Nichijou and having a blast with it. I haven't really been interested in SoL anime for most of my life, but who knows? Nichijou may just change my mind.

Yes, and they rarely do anything to change the plot around them without being contrived as fuck. Banana Fish was really bad about this, with characters having both smartphones and newspapers in 2010s New York.

I haven't read the manga so I can't say. For a Madhouse anime, the first episode was disappointing animation wise. I hope future episodes are better.

Just got off the first two episodes of the HnK remake, and it's surprisingly not as awful as I thought it would be. I'm still bummed that they had to use this awkward, stilted, robotic CGI for like 99% of the animation when there's clearly talent present that could do it traditionally. They settled for an approach which tackles the action in the following manner - all shots are done with CGI unless any "extensive" transformation of the model is involved, which basically includes nearly all gore but also includes stuff like the iconic shirt rips. This also unfortunately means there's visible sidestepping of doing extra work already visible in episode 2 after Spade's death, where his exploded body thuds to the ground offscreen. The difference in "soul" when cel animation happens right after CGI is quite jarring, I have to add.

But then they go and pull a nearly completely cel-animated sequence like this, which just gives me a "what could have been" feels.

Pretty funy that there wasn't a single instance of a non-CGI Ken, Rin or Bat in these episodes, while Shin appears exclusively in cel animations.

edit: oh yeah, the opening is whatever, and Ai wo Torimodose they used for the ending is just inferior to the '84 version.

I watched them when I woke up early for my night shift today. While I do wish it was mostly cel animation too, the shows 3D execution hasn't bothered me. I do like the stylistic choice of making the main fights on a white backdrop while still having stuff in the background. Plus the way they transitioned the background to a dark haze when Bat was talking about Rin's history was well executed.

That also reminded me that the King's Game did that too, as the original manga had flip phones, and the anime had smartphones. It didn't change anything about the stupid and dumb as fuck plot though.

Getting Berserk 2016 vibes.
Well now I have to post this.

One of the greatest endings to anything ever.

I missed Redline, so to make up for lost time I just watched it twice: the impeccable animation, action, and style make for audiovisual candy, and it's paired with a merely adequate story that is sufficient to jump between setpieces without fuss.

I'm also surprised at how much I'm fond of this movie for the setting: turns out I dig the notion of interstellar lowlifes, hipsters, and adrenaline junkies operating outside of "advanced" society and partaking in souped-up "archaic" sports, it makes me think of something out of Ian Banks's The Culture series.

Season 3 of jujutsu kaisen where Maki goes on a rampage killing the zenin clan had the most ill fitting soundtrack I've ever heard in any anime

Holy shit it completely killed any enjoyment I had. Its supposed to be some heavy scene but the music does not fit it at all. Its light and bouncy and upbeat completely contradicting the entire scene

I'm completely perplexed how so many people are glazing the music choice in that episode. I get music is subjective but it goes against the tone completely

Imagine playing Doom and the entire time the soundtrack is whimsical harmonica
