This is just glazing, Oda is not immune to writing flubs and nothing in timeskip OP matches the peaks of the pre-timeskip OP. Maybe in the 00s this was true because he was up against some of the worst titles in Jump's lineup but in the last decade he wrote two of the worst arcs in the series (Fishman Island and Dressorosa) and a lot of underwhelming ones and its obvious now he's just cutting things short just so he can finish it before he dies. Still a great manga but its long passed its peak.
It's less glazing Oda and more shitting on most shonen writers. I think Oda and Yoshihiro Togashi are 6/10, meaning I could see them being forgettable mildly successful writers in a more challenging text only genre in another life. The rest of them are either people with OK ideas but bad execution or no ideas and terrible execution. The entire genre coasts on visuals.

As a big One Piece fan, I think One Piece going for so long has negatively impacted it. Not because of fatigue, but because Oda realizes the clock is really ticking now. He's past fifty and his health is failing so much he's had to take at least one break every month for a long while. So, a lot of chapters in the more recent arcs of crammed with information, huge crowd shots with so many text bubbles I sometimes can't even determine who is saying what. I think he's doing his best to get as much information and story in each chapter that they feel bloated, all because he knows he can't keep up this grind for, say, another decade. The story's length has turned around and bit him in the ass.

Also characters (mostly) not dying is a fun gimmick, people say shit like "It means there's no stakes, it means none of the main characters will die!" as if any of the Straw Hats would ever die anyway. If characters suddenly started dropping left and right, it wouldn't make the manga substantially better or anything.

Shibou Yuugi de Meshi wo Kuu "anime maid death game" first episode was pretty nice. Wonder how they'll continue with it and if it already has an ending, or it will be yet another LN one off that will probably never get a proper ending.

I don't get how the average Japanese boomer lives to 80, but mangakas drop like flies 2/3 of the way.

You're underestimating how shitty and unhealthy the lifestyle of many mangaka are, especially for weekly manga. A lot of them are so busy they barely eat or sleep. It's no wonder a bunch of them ended up in the hospital for shit like sleep deprivation and anemia, or drop dead when they're still middle-aged because what they put their bodies through when they're younger finally caught up to them.

Here's the rather infamous schedule for one Shounen Jump mangaka that was made public.

This reminded me to ask, of the "devil girl from a comedic series about demons and angels interacting in the human realm" which would kiwifarms have as its mascot? link to strawpoll if you want :)
Etna.jpg Etna from Disgaea (2025 Queen of /v/ runner-up)
Satania.gif Satania from Gabriel DropOut (certified /g/ icon)
jashinchan.gif Jashin-chan from Dropkick on My Devil! (currently in a fierce (originally as a joke, now some anons take it seriously for some reason) competition for best debiru with Satania on /a/)
Jahy.jpg Jahy-sama from The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated! (has a dispraportionately large LatAm fanbase)
Shamiko.jpg Shamiko from The Demon Girl Next Door (like Gushing over Magical Girls, has a sickly author whose poor health has unfortunately stymied series progress. Nonetheless has a somewhat regular thread on /a/)
If you're mad that I missed one, it's either that I don't think they quite fit the bill and/or the series is too niche and/or I'm not personally aware of it - gomenasorry in advance.

It largely depends on the mangaka, There was one mangaka I think it was the one who made princess jellyfish who at one point was juggling 4-5 series at once totaling to about 200 pages a month because she was able to manage at least 10 or more assistants in one room.
I'm pretty sure most magazines leave it completely up to the mangaka how many assistants they want to have, if they want their own studio to draw, etc. with the condition that their the ones paying for it. Don't feel bad for them there not poor starving artists I'm pretty sure places like jump pay $2000-25000 per chapter and 3-5% royalties for volume sales
Some are stubborn or greedy bastards that refuse to let anyone else touch their work or want as much money as possible, some are borderline neets that can barley talk to a convivence store worker let alone an assistant helping them, and some have enough people that they have their own little studios that not only make the manga but also handle some minor contracts and licensing.
If you can find a series called manben I'd recommend it not only if your interest in how some people draw, but what their overall workspace and assistant count is like.

Need help with Lupin the 3rd.

I own:
The Woman Called Fujiko Mine
Lupin Italian Adventure sub only

I saw the Cat's Eye v Lupin film is getting a physical release and that they're doing the Lupin special compilations again. The first set is specials 1 to 5. This is good for me because I don't have any of them.

I want to ask about the TV series. I've seen part 6. (Wanted Lupin's mom arc to be so great but alas it wasn't) I know the franchise is basically out of print on bluray. I know the second series is the most acclaimed. (Red jacket?) I would like to know how the first season is and the pink jacket season . What are y'all's inputs? I know pink jacket is apparently considered mid (?).

I like all the characters but my favorites are Fujiko Mine and Goemon Ishikawa if that helps.

They are all little girls so none of them. But probably Jashin since she's a legit asshole that deserves a thread.

The ratings for Haruhi Suzumiya are kinda funny
Endless Eight was such a shitshow and for no fucking reason. They could have made 8 episodes of filler with the last one minute shared between the episodes, but they decided to redraw the same episode 8 times for absolutely no sane reason.

The first series can be argued to be the best in the franchise and has some of the most beloved episodes with in, it might seem like I'm overselling especially given its age but I was surprised by how seamless the formula worked even back then. And given its short runtime it doesn't overstay its welcome so even if you do have a hard time getting into old anime its a breeze to get into.

Pink jacket is way more divisive due to the change in artstyle but it doesn't deviate at all from the established formula . Still I would only recommend it once you get more invested into the franchise its not bad but the capers aren't nearly as memorable or acclaimed as green and red jacket.

This "Sentenced to be a Hero" show is getting overhyped a lot. I watched the first episode and it was well designed and animated, but so far the characters and the story leaves a lot to be desired for me. Unless it ups its game, it'll be rather forgettable overall, I think. The really clunky exposition dumps from the two main characters at the start of the episode was in particular pretty annoying for me.

I don't have any genres in mind. I just want something that's easy for someone who's new to anime to watch.
Watch Symphogear, it's peak.

I think Satania would be the best fit given the temprament of the average user here, but Null and most the userbase here hates anime. They'd sooner pick Sonichu for a mascot over an anime anything.

I can recommend some manga if that's cool

Baki the Grappler - THE manly man manga of manly men fighting each other because they're manly men

Tenkaichi: The Greatest Warrior Under the Rising Sun - Tournament manga about historical japanese fighting to appease Oda Nobunaga

Versus - Same artist as Tenkaichi working with ONE of One Punch Man. Manga is about 13 worlds magically connecting with humans being prey to over powered threats.

Blue Lock - Soccer but without friendship powers, it's all about your own personal ego and being the best

Rekkyou Sensen - The world no longer has resources to sustain the human race so they battle it out in a tournament to decide which country gets destroyed for the others survival

You’re putting the cart before the horse here in that this was Shonen Jump trying to not Tezuka their cash cow series.
Yeah, I believe this is actually mandated by Jump, which is a rare privilege when you think about it, and I think he was talked into quitting smoking years after he was hospitalized back around 2010. Reportedly there's actual backup plans set into place in case of Oda's untimely death, on top of him having literal piles of notes for what he has planned for the story. I don't want the man to die so soon, but I can trust the series will be in good hands should it happen.

Yeah it was my first drop of the season. Sure it looked nice for a show that was delayed twice and has a fixed schedule due to how bad the production has been but its story and characters felt like a check box of every cliche of jap storytelling (oh everyone is an idiot but the MC? the holy knights are are MUH PRIDE allegories for Japanese nationalism? Oh and the church is evil? Daring today aren't we?). I'm at the state in my anime consumption where I need more than good animation to keep my attention.

He's an idiot too considering he had to sit through the whole kangaroo court through to sentencing to finally figure out he was being framed
