I started Sailor Moon S today, Cloverway dub. Linda Ballantyne really is no Terri Hawkes, so it's a little disappointing to know the ADR director had her try to mimic her voice. She tries, but it's pretty obvious she's one of the worst-sounding of the cast--she didn't sound too bad in episode three, though.

I have no idea why it is the sound fluctuates, however. Like it gets louder for the OP and ED and during the transformation sequences. I'm not sure if that's just because that's the version that got uploaded (Gogoanime took videos from KissAnime, and that's what Kodi has) or what.

I'm actually rather fond of Linda Ballantyne's portrayal. She does get annoyingly screechy at times but I feel that she really brings out Serena's goofiness. Terri is the best Moon though, no question.

I have all of S and SuperS to get used to her, though. She was just really jarring jumping straight into the season so close together. There definitely were good moments, it just sounded really rough. Meanwhile, I don't know what to think about Ami's new voice--or just her voice in general, honestly. Never really cared for Karen Bernstein's take on her, and that sense of not caring still extends to Liza Balkan, but she hasn't had big speaking roles just yet as of episode three. Of all the performances thus far, Susan Roman's my favorite, and Katie Griffin grew on me before becoming my second favorite after the school festival episode in R.

Where's that cringe rating when you need one?

So that new One Piece chapter was pretty damn fucked up, huh?

The reason Terri Hawkes even left in the first place was because she was on maternity leave at the time, so it couldn't be helped. Linda tried her best and she pulled it off for the most part.

Susan Roman is the shit; one of the good things about the Viz dub is that Jupiter's new voice actress, Amanda C. Miller, sounds a lot like her. Katie Griffin is awesome too. IMO Karen Bernstein is the better Mercury; I don't dislike Liz Balkan but Karen gave Amy a bit more personality outside of being the typical soft-spoken nerdy girl. The original cast really shine in the movies, so check them out too.

After episodes 12 and 13, Linda's performance has definitely grown on me. But I found my favorite of the recast: Stephanie Beard as Rini. She's perfect.

Is it also weird to think that Barbara Radecki and Sara Lafleur are good as Sailors Neptune and Uranus, respectively, but only when they're not as the Outer Guardians (usually)? I dunno, they sound better when they're normal and not when they're trying to be authoritative.

I kinda get what you're saying but I think Uranus and Neptune sound fine either way. A lot of the voices just fit naturally to me, even Luna's.

But yeah, Stephanie Beard is best Mini Moon.

Are they ranting about cultural appropriation?

Not exactly since people recognize Cowboy Bebop is different from many anime, they're just mostly complaining about how American productions fuck up anime adaptations (like the Japanese film industry can do it better lulz). But...

There haven't been any articles about it, even? I was expecting a few to come along as soon as I heard about it.

Americans can barely do their own cartoons right. No surprise we're fucking up anime. Though I've heard there were Japanese live-action films of Gatchaman and Yatterman and both were awful.

The live-action Yatterman actually beat Dragonball Evolution at the Japanese box office.

I'm optimistic for it, if only just to see how they decide to do it. Sunrise is co-producing it so that gives me a little faith in it.
