nah
the cursed ninjas or whatever of the setting need to be selfish to succeed
that's why it's revealed yuji doesn't want to do the right thing: it's never revealed what he wants at all really

Fuck me. JJK is even stupider than I remember. For fuck's sake, Yuji goes all "I'm not you!" to actually "I am you." in a manner of minutes to Mahito's entire spiel.
I knew jjk was going to be shit when I found out it was written by a women. Kek

I finally watched Ergo Proxy a few months ago. That was one I was intrigued by when I was a teen, think I got the first ep on a DVD from Newtype magazine. Never bothered watching past a few episodes until recently(full watch through). It was okay. The animation and setting were great. I didn't appreciate all the woowoo confusing religious bullshit, where so many animes get a little too big for their britches. So, when people diss / trash its negatives, I totally get it. But damn I enjoyed it so much for that dumb goth bitch, genuinely.

I don't know if it was intentional, but somehow they NAILED Re-L being a crazy hot goth dumb BPD princess. I'm sorry, I really don't even want to be mean here. Her erratic behavior, her hot & cold attitude toward Vincent, I was LAUGHING!
(Also, I didn't hear the Jap dub until now. In English they say "ray-ell", the Japs say, "LEELU", adorable, the angry brooding goth girl and everyone is calling her "Leelu!", incredible)
Edit: Additionally, Pino and Vincent were likeable characters. Aside from witnessing Re-L getting one step closer to that Klonopin overdose, we finally got to see Vince become a bit of a chad. Okay in my book.

And the government coverup has everyone gaslighting the poor girl, making her even crazier. And then she acts even more stupid and spoiled in response! Repeatedly! I totally understand why some people hate Re-L; I was purely entertained.
My favorite episode was that later one, where Re-L, Pino and Vincent are stranded in the desert with their sail boat. And Re-L is going white girl CRAZY without her usual toiletries.
My favorite part was when Vincent and Pino were just doing some dumb-man thing, contentedly staring at the horizon and Re-L was SEETHING at them just being happy doing nothing. It predates that meme by almost 20 years! LOL
edit edit: would, duh

I know my random little review isn't really needed here, but who else is going to appreciate the absurd joy that I got from seeing the Japs make a 2006 1:1 facsimile of that crazy goth girl we all met in college?:D

I tried to watch Dandadan again. I can't tell if I'm too retarded or not retarded enough to enjoy it. I don't get the hype.

GF put it on a while back, so I back-seat watched some of it. The first couple or so episodes felt unique, but then just kinda flips back to shonenshit. Which is fine (no opinion BASHING!), I just don't bother with it.

Between Lain, Ergo Proxy, Texhnolyze and Ghost in the Shell it felt like there was an era where gritty cyberpunk with philosophical undertones was in vogue.
I recently rewatched Ghost in The Shell Stand Alone Complex for the first time in decades; when I first saw it I barely understood what was going on. Now that I'm older and can follow the politics better I really enjoy the series. The relatively muted tone makes the comedic and character moments feel more interesting when they occur, and the political/philosophical side aged pretty well. I'm hoping that new Science Saru GITS series is a sign of things to come, because I'd really dig a cyberpunk anime revival.

You're a tourist if you aren't racist, transphobic, femboysexual, Indian, a based cunny-loving lolicon, antisemitic, white, orthodox Christian, don't watch VTubers, and don't worship Oskar Dirlewanger.

I will continue to defend the ending of Jujutsu Kaisen because Yuji was never meant to become Hokage. 🤣
Can I just say I couldn't get into JJK. I watched the first few episodes and I could easily call out - "Oh, Yuji is just Naruto with the demon inside him, the Sasuke-looking fucker is Sasuke, the angry chick is just Sakura, and the white-haired teacher with covered ""special eyes"" was just Kakashi"... Right from the get-go it seemed completely derivative to me. At least when Naruto stole from Hunter x Hunter it was just Kurapika's gimmick, but JJK went and palette-swapped the entirety of Team 7. Then I heard the story shits the bed so hard it's not even worth picking up.

The Re-L hate is definitely overblown, even when she was being a selfish bitch she was still putting her life on the line with a gun in her hand, people act like she's a twintail or something... She has genuine character growth, something only possible because of how she was at the start, and by the end she's the one putting all the pieces together and discovering truths (like who Ergo Proxy is) for herself - because she actually wants to learn and know the truth.

Iggy did nothing wrong though...

Seriously, this one clip motivated me to finish the show and I'm glad I did. It might be one of the realest takedowns I've ever seen.

I love how the laughing man is literally the chud meme of our world. The closest thing might be Luigi Mangione, but that one didn't become as munch as a meme as the chud meme.

I'm on like episode 11 (?) of Spy. They haven't got the dog yet. The dub is fine. Loid is fantastic. I don't understand why they couldn't get an actual child to voice Anya. It would be so much better. And the old lady neighbor should have been voiced by Marcy Rae because the woman that they cast is clearly in her 30-40s and its taking me out.

Overall its fun. Kinda need more Loid and Yor, less Anya school plots but she is the breakout character after all.

That's why I praised the seiyuu before, she sounds like a little kid. Did you catch Monica Rial's character? lol. She's one of the gossiping old biddies in Anya's apartment bloc. From MCs down to ancillary old ladies, I suppose there's a little justice for Vic...
She's also literally the make-or-break in Operation Strix, if she gets kicked out of the school and doesn't get close to Damian, the mission is a failure, since Loid's entire goal with that operation is to probe Damian's father for sedition.
A time skip would do wonders for the show, mainly because I really like Damian and Anya together and want them aged up. I'm genuinely interested in that drama because Anya is straight up lying to Damian to help Loid out, and I think it's safe to say that Damian is spellbound by Anya. It's played off as little kid shit sure, but Anya is quite literally manipulating his emotions. What's even better is that she told him she can read minds. He didn't believe her of course, but she openly said it, which means Damian can only get so mad when the truth finally dawns on him. Anya might be manipulating him, but she told him her greatest secret which she hasn't even told to Becky or her parents. It's the most interesting sub-plot in the show, more than Loid and his mission, and more than Yor and her assassinations.

Spy X Family is one of those shows where it has a lot of options to go and it’s still fun regardless. Yor is actually slowly developing into a character with motivations (they amount to her being compromised by her cover family, but more honest in it) and Loid is in denial about it.

I kinda hope we the route of Yuri going rogue-ish and trying to uncover a conspiracy with Loids help that puts him against the Garden.

Anya is great at behaving like a dumb kid rather than usually hyper competent/annoying kids in anime. She also balances the other two leads storylines with justifying why they work.

I agree, the best case is finishing the current plot without Anya going to be Imperial scholar but still setting a meeting between Loyd and that dad, and then finding a good reason why they should stick to the family structure for 5 more years so Anya's group will be slightly less retarded.
