This is nowhere near Heaven's Feel level. Ufotable's excessive use of CG and filtering gets really exhausting because so many sequences look like blurs and after effects. The shots outside the fights also don't look impressive (which was an issue with Mugen Train as well) in contrast to the Chainsawman movie which actually does have good shot composition and feels like something made for theaters vs something thats essentially half of seasons worth of content being shat out to milk it more.

Despite my criticisms I thought it was very good and better than this year's capeshit offerings but as a disgruntled fan of Ufotable who thinks that the 5th Garden of Sinners movie is one of the best animated movies ever I can't say I was too impressed with it visually.
Heavens feel was great. This was better. The castle alone was insane. We are talking Treasure planet levels of complexity. They had to upgrade their computers from what I heard just to render it.

Also Akaza was fucking incredible. I loved that nigga.

A young, amnesiac alien girl known only as Princess Ai
Wait, Courtney Love envisioned herself as an alien? Lmao.

What's an "anime tourist" and how are they different from a casual enjoyer?
"Tourists" are posers. They're only "into" anime because it's popular but they have no interest in putting in the effort to actually watch or read the series they're imposing in on while going around wearing the merch they bought at Hot Topic. A lot of them are also only into the porn and nothing else, which is just as cringe and gross (they may be groomers). I've seen this happen in shipping circles, it's not surprising it'd happen in other communities.

wearing the merch they bought at Hot Topic.
being a weeb is something you should be ashamed of
you should mock the fucking weebs in public, only speak about your chinese cartoons in the dankest corners of the interwebs
the weebs who wear weebshit in public where always the most deranged
wtf fucking happened?

Would you agree with this critique of anime, ... ,compared to Marvel comics?
lol, lmao even.
there are some good western comics, but none of those are marvel
marvel was always shit, marvel is predictable, boring capeshit filled with tropes.
are lots of mangas/animes shit filled with tropes? sure, but marvel is always like that.

the old disney movies are mostly revisions of european folklore, but rip out all the dark stuff, adding in more pink and frills, and songs
the originals are simply better, folktales are supposed to have dark sides.
anime black mirror
ghost in the shell and psycho pass come to mind
anime rick and morty
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Rick's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick & Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick's existential catchphrase "Wubba Lubba Dub Dub," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon's genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them.
And yes, by the way, i DO have a Rick & Morty tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid.
The lack of subtlety is something that can be criticized about most Japanese fiction
the japanese are by default slightly autistic, thats one of their best qualities
they can be subtle too, but if they are, their autistic about that too

That doesn’t mean Demon Slayer is bad. In fact, part of its success is how straightforward it is. It’s easy to follow, visually stunning, and appeals to a wide range of people—from kids to older folks who don’t usually watch anime. In Japan, that simplicity is actually one of its biggest strengths.
I couldn't really follow the manga's action at all. Maybe it's because of how little I cared about the characters, maybe it's because the fights would just never fucking end, or maybe it's because all the villains were infinite-regen demons with all kinds of bullshit powers they could pull out of their ass and could only be killed when the script says "okay THIS time it counts when their head got cut off, unlike the several other times where they loopholed out of it" while the heroes were just guys with swords whose magic abilities aren't even real except for the times they are.

Heavens feel was great.
Oh god no

HF needed a rewrite far more than Fate ever did, and they fucked it up. For fuck's sake, Shirou using Nine Lives Blade Works against Berserker in the old animation they did was better than the movie's. Hell, it's better in the visual novel because you actually know what the fuck is going on.
Add in all the scenes they cut to make the horrible ending they went with plausible and the HF trilogy is just a mess. It looks okay, if you're a schizophrenic but that's most anime action these days.

The movies made Heaven's Feel actually not a schizo read and I still stand by that. Trimmed the fat, kept the kino.

We didn't even get Shirou having brain/soul damage to illustrate how fucked he is.
then again, they went with the absolute worst ending that has no actual consequences for everything they did in that route

Shirou loses his fucking body man. Also he did get brain damage. He starts forgetting shit. They were not going to end it on a shit ending with Sakura dead

Demon Slayer, along with shows like Jujutsu Kaisen and Spy x Family, falls into what some call the “COVID anime” trend—series that became massively popular during the pandemic, largely because they were accessible and everywhere, not necessarily because they offered anything deeply lasting. They’re fun in the moment, but not especially memorable once the hype fades.

Still, it’s a bit overwhelming how something so by-the-numbers became the mainstream hit. Compare it to something like Attack on Titan, which felt like a true cultural phenomenon. People who didn’t even watch anime were following the story, discussing the characters, and getting into manga because of it. It had reach, impact, and staying power. Demon Slayer, on the other hand, mostly pulls in fans who are just into Demon Slayer—the ripple effect is smaller.

On top of that, the way Demon Slayer is marketed has rubbed some people the wrong way. The series ended years ago, but Sony has been stretching out the finale to keep cashing in. It feels more like they’re selling hype than content. It’s similar to what we saw with stuff like K-Pop Demon Hunters—a forgettable product designed to hit all the trendy beats, then sold based on how many records it breaks rather than the actual quality. And in the West, Demon Slayer gets strategic releases in quiet months to make it seem like a box office hit, even when competition is low.

TL;DR: Demon Slayer isn’t bad. It’s just a clear example of how modern marketing and fandom can inflate something decent into something exhausting—where success feels more about being seen watching it than actually enjoying it.

I might argue that Demon Slayer is more a popular pre pandemic series that got supercharged because of the pandemic yet at the same time not that popular in the west as some people assume and is largely carried by how massive it still is in Japan.
A bunch of people have recorded sales numbers in detail since no one had saw something like this coming (and if you where on /a/ at the time broke the mind of one notable schizo who spend the rest of the series trying to derail every thread he saw),

People where kind of right about episode 19 being the thing that got the damn ball rolling, but aside from the massive spikes from the infinity train and the final volume, it didn't really change much pre pandemic to post pandemic (although you could argue that it just extended its popularity as most other flash in the pan popular series quickly lost steam after their first season).

Another thing to take note of is while Infinity castle is now a little over $600 million at the box office, only about $120 million is from american weebs (and it doesn't look that good for legs) where Japan alone is contributing around $230 million to the total and the rest of the world a bit over $250 million.
To put that in perspective,
the Super Broley move sold almost 1 to 1 when you compare to US and Jap box office ($30 million in the US and $34 million in Japan)
Super Hero sold over twice as much in the US then Japan ( $38 million in the US and $17 million in Japan).
JJK 0 was slightly bellow to what demon slayer is now in terms of ratio with Japan ($34 million in the US vs $99 million in Japan) but the former might have better legs in the US.

I'm actually generally curious how the CSM movie will preform since I remember a lot more western weebs enjoyed the anime then jap otaku because they hated the director with a burning passion.

I remember when the series first came out the DVD sales seemed disastrously weak, but it was later noted that the numbers being used were severely skewed because they went off amazon sales and didn't factor in the blu ray being primarily sold in a bundle on a different site. Given that they're doing S2 + a movie I can only assume it did fairly well. The movie's probably going to post some serious numbers because chainsaw man is definitely attracting a sizeable following. I don't think it has as big a following as Demon Slayer because it's edgier and tonally darker, but I imagine they'll easily recoup their budget on the movie.

Despite not having an anime (yet) kagurabachi (the greatest manga ever made) has collabed with burgerking

I need help from Dragon Ball turbo autists. The kind that read doujinshi.

I will start reading Dragon Ball GT manga and want some more recommendations about what if series or the kind that is actually complete and not dropped or the kind.

After I finish GT, I want more to fill in

Is it truly good, or just another JJK-like flavor of the month?
It is truly good chihiro drops the 24/7 edgy in the manga if you read up to chapter 9 you can see the shining gem. It has great writing but premium art (This most recent chapter got shitty art because he was being overworked, unfortunately due to collab art, vol 9 cover, this chapter cover, another color page next week, magazine cover, union arena, and probably something for mha)

I couldn't show you the best panels otherwise it would ruin the impact of seeing it
Also, if you notice anything related to comics, yeah that man is based off bucky and batman is the one of the inspirations for this comic.
Here's the first collab Kagurabachi ever had. Girl meet rock is a really great manga

Yeah that was just cope even the CEO at MAPPA said that the BD sales were weak and that they expected way better from it given how big of a hit Jujutsu Kaisen was for them though the show did well overall outside of BDs the negative reception in Japan definitely spooked them a little hence why the Reze movie has a completely different staff and is staying loyal to the source of material unlike the first season. The Reze movie has been incredibly well received is looking to beat Demon Slayer two weeks in a row in Japan after its 10 week winning streak dominating the boxoffice over there and it might do some numbers in the US as well.

No the action was completely schizophrenic, look at the Saber Alter vs Rider fight that has no choreography and overuses particle effects like crazy
https://youtube.com/watch?v=y64e9gZgQUMEven Fate Ilya did a Saber Alter fight better
https://youtube.com/watch?v=bwcnBTYTdoA
That's literally just how Ufotable does action scenes now, Demon Slayer has the exact same problem.

I just want to know how old Ryu in The Water Magician is. Since he's immortal he doesn't age, and he spent a lot of time in an isolated area with no frame of reference like seasons, and it seems like it would've taken him a very long time to be proficient in his magic and swordsmanship to that level. I bet he's older then his elf girlfriend
I don't think it's ever given an exact age. He was transferred at 19, and he didn't keep track of how long he was in the forest but says it was around 20 years, plus about a year after reaching town leaves him at probably over 40.

It's essentially a meme manga that took off because a bunch of bored hood weebs on twitter pushed it as a joke but then people took the joke too seriously you then add in a lot of shilling from Jump and it managed to become a decent hit now content wise it's pretty obvious that this is the author's very first serialization because its insanely rough looking at times, the story is nothing special as is with current shounen slop but it starts off fairly endearing until it becomes clear that the author doesn't really have a solid idea of where to take it so you're mostly just reading for the "aura" moments to compensate for the lack of direction. Overall its another "popular for the sake of being popular" work but its not bad if you come in with the knowledge that it is overhyped.

It came out at the time when the Morbius meme was still somewhat fresh and a bunch of people decided to try to do it again, this time with a manga.
