The point is that Western media is effectively dead at this point, and the Japanese entertainment apparatus could capitalize if they cared to.
Instead they are being bought out by the western monopolies that nigger'd everything in the west to begin with. It's really gonna take a Chinese reverse-nanking to unfuck the place soon. And they might actually get more balls than their current post-war (drafted by a yenta) "Constitution" allows them to have.

I'm probably alone in this complaint because I'm gonna assume 90% of people here haven't bought a physical manga in years (aside from one or two who might of imported some volumes from Japan), But I think the the whole "deluxe" hardcover trend that got popular with the Berserk volumes is fucking shit.
I get why their doing it, manga doesn't sell that many copies aside from the most popular FOTM can survive as singles so the only way for some of the niche series is to appeal to collectors by giving them hardcovers or fake leather covers, printing them on larger sizes or on better quality paper, or include a bunch of extras, but it is getting out of hand with some series.
Ashita no Joe was retailing for 60 bucks when it first came out and while from a brief search online there doesn't seem to be any big modern day localization retardation like some series, still not worth it at retail price. Gundam the origin is getting a new deluxe print for 55 bucks, and while the original editions where not cheap, they had one of the best print quality for a manga and had a lot of extra interviews and artwork which the "deluxe" edition actually removes most of said extras. Hell I just found out that an old series I liked called Mushishi is getting a new printing after being out of print for years, as a 2-1 hardcover for over twice the price as the original singles.

This probably also has something to do with the years of growing up on mass market paperbacks from second hand book stores and libraries and the idea that any book with a fancy cover, comes in a over designed box set, or those god awful book jackets are meant to be looked at on a shelf, not read.

I buy a fuck ton of manga yearly, what are you on about? I like supporting the shit I like. Pirate it for the first read, get physical later.

JJK is getting a Boruto sequel series named after mexican beer or something. Hopefully it doesn't fuck up the ending.
JJK was already a "passing the torch" tale... dumping an abrupt next gen. continuation, with a random huge time skip where every original character is dead no less, is super weird. Akutami clearly hated writing the story and its world-building, so why produce more? A Heian era prequel would have made sense for being the one detail he loved jerking off most. Also aliens are a huge tonal clash for this setting, is he aping Dandadan?

I still buy some too but only if a store/site are having a decent sale.
Still get a little annoyed how Rightstuf was taken out back and shot (bought out and merged with CR) since it use to have some decent sales and general mark downs, but all of that got locked away behind needing to subscribe to CR and from word of mouth, quality control and customer has taken a hit since its only a side business now, so less resources and effort are directed towards it.
