You know, I find it weird how some people still think that anime and Japanese writing in general is of poor quality compared to Western works. Not saying that all anime writing is good or even fitting for some works, but to quote:
The latter is of lower quality, simple as that.
Not saying that the west only produces masterpieces of writing or whatever, but 9 times out of 10, when you see a writer or artist being far up its own ass like this, its a japanese one. The west has the opposite problem of not taking things seriously enough when it comes to mainstream media, but thats the lesser of two evils when it comes to the end quality of the product.
The dozens of harems that are released, the isekais, the shounens with terrible pacing (fights lasting 5+ episodes, plenty of flashbacks when they are not necessary, repeating flashbacks we already saw, exposition dialogue overkill, telling instead of showing, etc...).

You have plenty of good stories from japan, most of them just end up being more niche, or hardly emulated at all.
Wonder why this mindset is still prevalent.

people who think this haven't paid attention to western media for the past ten years
eastern media has declined, yes, but i can't find anything redeemable in western media these days

Granted, I was discussing the usage of anime elements in the Metroid series, and they used this as proof as to why Other M was bad and why it should be excised of any anime elements.

But yes, it does make me wonder if they’ve actually looked at how much more western media has declined compared to eastern.

You're defending Other M here too? Let it go man, the test of time has already judged MOM, poorly.

I hate pandemic and post-pandemic weebs.
Let's not pretend like pre-pandemic weebs were all morally upstanding and sane individuals. Just remember that the 2010s produced the monstrosity known as Digibro.

Outside of Clevatess , Re Zero season 3 and Apocalypse Bringer there have been no anime this year ( that I've watched ) that I would rate above a 7 out of 10.

There's been a real lack of good high quality shows coming out this year, hopefully next year is better.

I am catching up with Demon Slayer after putting it off since the Mugen Train movie. Anime only, so no, i don't know the ending. Ufotable has been busy the last few years. Holy shit i fucking missed out; on the flip side, i get to binge it all at once before the Infinity Castle movie trilogy (which is the exact same shit Ufotable did with Heaven's feel, just this time its with a property that prints money like toilet paper). Bro, for all the seasonal shit i watch and other shit i fit into my watch schedule, its nice having a show that is just consistent and solid, and visually stunning on a big TV screen that it was clearly made to be watched on.

Witch Watch has been at least a 8/10 for me, sure maybe some of the shounen and romcom moments can drag, but when its funny its pretty damn funny. The tengu stuck in time episode got the biggest laugh out of me in a while.

I'm not defending it. OM is indeed a poor game Just that I think the overreaction by the fanbase to any anime elements being negative purely because OM had them is overblown.

Back to the topic, do you guys think that the mega-mainstream success that Demon Slayer has gotten in Japan is warranted?

At least in my opinion, the current season has been better than average. Kijin Gentoushou, Kaijuu 8-gou, Dandadan, Dr. Stone, Ruri no Houseki, Grand Blue S2, Clevatess, and Silent Witch have all been consistently good. The number of shitty, badly animated isekai and medieval fantasies about "OP skills" also seems to be in decline; as compensation, there seems to be a rising trend of "The protagonist got kicked out of the hero's party for being awful but he was actually its cornerstone due to being overpowered and the world's best <insert profession/class here>. He is also completely oblivious to his actual power level despite multiple and constant reminders of how abnormal he is" crap.

Clevatess is very good. Especially since it's the director's first time doing an anime. The director, Taguchi, is normally a tokusatsu director. Really fun so far though. It's the standout of the season so far for me. I'm also watching New Panty and Stocking (Very aggressively middling), Shield Hero Season 4 and Dandadan.
I'm liking the new season of Shield Hero well enough, but something about the show's pacing always seems to suck.

Season 2: Went three episodes per LN volume. Which leaves a ton of material on the floor and season 3 had to retcon in some of the plotpoints that S2 ignored (Spirt Tortoise's remains. Naofumi, Filo and Raphtalia getting cursed)
Season 3: Actually pretty good pacing
Season 4: Glacial pacing and stretching things out a little too much. The fight between Jaralis and Fohl in particular went on for what felt like forever.

Next season, if they get one, will finally get to the Phoenix fight though. That and the subsequent Takt arc are where the novels really hit their stride.

Dandadan I wanna like more than I do. I think the aliens vs yokai thing it's hinting at is a fun concept and I like the little romance between Momo and Okarun. 12 episode seasons sorta kills whatever momentum shonenslop has though.

I read all of 3 manga before going back to anime thinking "damn, this is 10 hours of subpar mimicry of the source material and it moves at 10 pages every 20 minutes". It's one big, long marketing move.

"Wow, this manga hits hard. It's about adulthood, depression and sourness. The anime must be great!"
>All soul is gone and yet people love it
Often true particularly thanks to stretching out source material, but sometimes they enhance each other, like Made in Abyss. And obviously pacing issues don't apply to anime-originals. But yeah I'll often watch a couple episodes of new shit basically just to shop for manga to read.

It goes the other way too though with shit that's obviously written as adaptation bait, like Kaiju 9 or MHA, where the manga ends up tedious as fuck because the author is jerking off over how cool their incoherent 50 chapter final battle of wall-to-wall ink splatters is gonna look as a cartoon.

Speaking of which, the pace got really bad, there's a ton of new characters I don't give a shit about and the main villain is absurdly OP.

Basically it feels like the part where Bleach became shit.
Having read the manga, it is doing its fucking best. This arc lasts a long ass time. I.G productions is doing a fuck ton of heavy lifting to keep shit moving. I'm enjoying it, but I also read it

New Kagurahachi chapter, I much do like the fight scene I can recognize the reused panels, but I respect hokazono for reusing for the better panels. I gotta respect the granddaughter for using big ass swords just for spite. Atleast the mexican guy showed up, I can't wait for next week's chapter where he actually fights New Centuria Chapter. I can't believe they flashbacked to angvall it seems like years since we last saw her. Oh. shit, is she gonna be revived as one of the rapist dyke minions. I would say arkvos getting a 30 second nuke every day is kinda bullshit I wonder how julian will best him probably gonna lose 20 of his lifes. New ichi the witch chapter The recordkeeper i couldn't care much for her since she's just the intern but damn that story was midly sad. Nvm the manga stated her name twice so i can remember it. A living rug plays ace attorney for the first time. I wonder when the mangaka will draw ichi uglier instead of le pretty boy New Sakadays chapter. Wow, this is a first lu actually doing something. I'm glad this is a heisuke chapter, he usually is the best written assassin of the store. RIP HYO HE HAD THE BEST FIGHT WITH HEISUKE. Heisuke is kinda like the superman of sakadays super hope pilled. I love the wrestling guy shame hes a jobber and will unfortunately die or smth
Tfw no centuria chapter, is on break. Is drama queen or ruri dragon any good, I keep seeing it before the sunday reads. Now onto my short bad reviews to maybe bait people into reading kagurabachi. New Sakamoto Days chapter I still love the wrestling assassin, hopefully his fight against heisuke doesn't end shittly otherwise it would be up there for best heisuke fights. It's definately up there, since heisuke just used his gun like a pole vault to avoid a girl. Looks like the wrestler wants to be a John Cena instead of Hulk Hogan. Looks like lu is finally doing something in the manga I'm gonna expect that the assassin ambulance is gonna slowly lose more members till it's just shin and sakamotos family but overall good chapter (and lu is already drunk)
New Ichi the bitch chapter Damn opening on 3 color pages, what a show off. I guess every good knight need their squire, and she's the squire or the sancho. I kinda hope team ichi don't get any new members, I do like the 4 (death) even genders and jobs 2 witches 2 engineers ig it could take a 5th one but the moment a 6th one I'm gonna start to dislike the whole team ichi. "You wear that eyepatch just to look cool" I wonder if the eyepatch sister is an ice magician, but that's taking a funny line too literal. Gotta love ichi straight foward and speaks his mind even if he's supposed to give a white lie. Gotta love desscaras even with her just being in 2 panels, she had a huge impact on this chapter as the mom? Older sister? Mentor figure bound to bitchi the bitch.
New Kagurabachi chapter, Poor hakuri always end up in the worst situations, but at least he usually gets in those bad positions with someone behind his back fighting with him. In the New York panel he said he spent 6 days a week doing storyboards and well I can tell now that I have the information by the poses like Kiri foot on the sword. Oh, damn, I guess Hakuri is famous in the hisaku the puppet swordsman literally said his move name before him. Since and isou can be deflected, I wonder if Hakuri can use it like a rocket jump or in anime terms like how Jotaro was flying in the Dio fight. Looks like the brother wants the two graves in the tale of revenge, what's with these swordsmen busting up their own facility just to move around better kiri did it twice and now the Misaka brother. I'm glad a npc also nooooticed that the swordsmen were busting up the building, I guess im also a npc. I think Hokazano watched the princess bride before storyboarding this chapter, "my name is Natsuki Misaka you killed my brother and prepare to die" I guess he wants a fight to the death and if he loses he atleast loses with two graves metaphor. I wonder if Kuguri is related to Hokuto well they're related in mentality. I just noticed the brother Misaka doesn't have any guards on his blades, his fingers are gonna get chopped off. I wonder if Rokuhira didn't give the brother cloud gouger since he is already cloud gouger in body and spirit (I guess he's gonna die since cloud gouger has 100% mortality rate) Looks like a 1v2 vs 2v1 just becomes a good oll 3v3 like umvc3 needs shame Hakuri is pratically a non combatant at this point needs to better his isou or make it more focused instead of being like a shotgun.
Also on more kagurabachi news Hokazano had a nyc panel it gave us alot of great information but it also got us a photo of him with his american fans
