Hey, not sure what the appropriate topic is, but is there a convenient list somewhere of what anime and toku are licensed by which company? Looking things up is such a scattershot process that I often don't even know a thing is out until its already become OOP.

EDIT: I'm particularly interested in eighties and nineties stuff and also the "Metal Heroes" Tokusatsu series. Discotek licensed Juspion and I had no idea until it was OOP so I want to be on top of things in the future. (And I also recently learned that they even licensed some western animation I'd want, and I only know because Amazon randomly told me so).

The only companies that I can recall licensing tokusatsu stuff have been: Media Blasters, Mill Creek and Shout Factory also released a Toku movie collection. Here's a list to some of the other releases that were compiled by the users on the blu-ray forum.

Japan's favorite fast cheat into drama. Misery porn is bad enough, but misery porn that needs to use kids being brutalized to make up for an inability to make compelling drama that stands on its own is cringe. Never watched (Maiden Abyss), never will.
but it works, doesn't it?
MiA goes even one step further juxtaposing ghibli-tier character art with all the horrific shit they endure. I can respect that and the bait-and-switch, however it feels a bit hollow and reminds of that one author (can't remember if it was shield hero or goblin slayer) basically saying if he wanted to sell copies he had to make it crass and rile people up.

it's also not japan specific, more like the west lost it's edge. combined with the fact besides books it's only something you can really do in anime/manga, which was never a "serious" medium in the west, and even less these days. just imagine a live-action made in abyss. not only would be he hard to do, most people are retards and couldn't handle it (like back then thinking the actress in the exorcist was truly possesed).

imo those kinds of topics are important, not to revel but keep remembering how pampered we really are. what I mean is you wouldn't see something like animal farm or that these days: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lord_of_the_Flies

It's pretty, well animated, and really really edgy. Given the example of stuff like Rezero, Shield Hero and Mushoku Tensei, that's all the normies need to enjoy something uncritically.
normie women especially. just look at game of thrones/walking dead and fifty shades: misery, drama, gore and rape are all they get off to from their boring daily life.

Naoki Urasawa's works overall are pretty great. PLUTO turned out to be a nice adaptation after all the production Hell.

Hoping 20th Century Boys can be properly adapted.
I find them bland and ultimately an expression of of the two nukes forcing pacifism on their population.

Pluto is the most boring and most overrated.

If you had "anime vision" -- the world being rendered like it is in animus -- it could be based on how traditional animation is done. That which is "background" could have a painted look, inanimate objects moving relative to that "background" could look cel-shaded, and of course any "character" could always look cel-shaded. From the first-person view if you're moving, that which looks painted could move in the field of vision, looking like 3DCG. Also, if you look at a subject that looks cel-shaded very up close, the look could change to painted like in SpongeBob. Oh yeah, and if you interact with an inanimate object that looks painted, it could suddenly change to look cel-shaded then...

The fact that "Azumanga Daioh" is not the title of the most badass mecha anime you can think of is proof something went wrong.

New New P&S episode has two new gay angel brothers speaking "zoomer" in both sub and dub. So there's your trigger warning if you want to watch it.
Maybe it's bc I'm a zoomer but I honestly think this season's been peak so far
Other than the voices being somewhat off there's genuinely very little to complain about (I liked that this latest ep was a whole 20 mins long, reminds me of the one in S1 when the demon sisters were introduced), extreme raunchiness has always been PSG's thing. I was surprised to hear "what the helly" since that's so recent but I'm not complaining 😭
Though I'm not an enlightened anime consumer so what do I know

I've been reading the Apocalypse Bringer Mynoghra Light novels and I must say it's quite an entertaining piece of fiction.

The setting is similar to Overlord aka a young Japanese man is reincarnated into another world as the leader of the most powerful evil nation that's ever existed , and then proceeds to try to take over the world with his minions.

The first two volumes are a bit slow , because initially the protagonist tries to peacefully coexist with other nations, but then certain events occur in Vol 3 which lead him to reject any ounces of humanity he still had left and then he starts massacring anyone that dares to stand in his way of world conquest.

The best thing about this series imo is that compared to Overlord the enemies of Mynoghra can actually put up a fight compared to the enemies of Nazarick, that just get squashed like bugs the moment they go up against Ainz or any of the floor guardians. Overall the series has a lot more stakes and tension compared to Overlord, it's an easy recommend from me 👍
I lost interest in that due to the NTR in the plot and in general disliking Isekai, but really disliking Japanese shit that gets meta.

I lost interest in Ranger Reject when the fan boy hippie showed up.

NPSG has been hit and miss for me. The Hanna Barbera Fantastic Four one was awesome. Gayngels made me laugh a little. Ths Yu-Gi-Oh one was good. Everything else hasn't quite worked.

The writers seem to especially hate Brief this time around, even more so than in the first series.
