Patlabor OVA. Well-animated and only seven episodes. Then watch the first movie afterwards.Question for some mechafans, is there a specific version of Patlabor you would recommend over the others (movies, tv series, or OVAs) or is any of them a good starting point?
I was reminded that the reboot for that is still coming out next year, so might as well go through that series before the usual baggage that gets dragged along with every reboot takes over.
I'm still making my way though 79' so I don't know what they fully added but speaking from the original books the bulk of Anne's and Gilberts relationship happens in the 2nd book and a little of the 3rd because in the first book They actually never interact with each other again after Gilbert saves Anne from drowning aside from the unspoken academic rivalry until the very end when Anne learns he gave up his teaching position at Avonlea for her and Marilla telling Anne she was in a similar position with Gilberts own father of holding a grudge she long forgave but never actually apologized for, although there where some parts from the 3rd book that was kind of dumb and felt more like a Jane Austen knockoff, to sum it up Anne actually rejected Gilberts initial proposal because she apparently still had the same childhood ideal about true love and briefly starts courting a man that seems to embody said idea for a good portion of the book before braking it off on the account of the man being dull and humourless beyond his initial appearance, and Gilbert almost dying of typhoid fever making Anne realize just how much she loves him.We are nearing the end of 79's run in terms of comparible content. Matthew has posted his death flag, which means he'll be biting it next week for sure, and with it comes uncharted book territory. I'm not expecting the show to pick up in quality of course, but being unable to compare it to the superior "quasi-Ghibli" version will only work out in its favor. I'm actually excited to see new content I've never seen before, namely Gilbert and Anne's relationship (though that "relationship" has been completely and utterly un-earned in Anne Shirley).
I watched three episodes and it looked too much like misery porn go botherSo random ass unpopular opinion that probably no one cares about: Am I the only one who really doesn’t like Violet Evergarden like….at all (show isn’t terrible itself just not my thing but the movie just made it SO much worse)
Exaggerated opinion below:
I still haven't sat down to watch the movies, but I binged the show and I was just unimpressed with it (I only gave it a "7" because I was okay with the episodic feel it was going for and I like my pretty animation as much as the next guy). There was only one scene in one episode where KyoAni wanted to show off their sick animation skillz, and that was it, which confounds me since this is KyoAni we're talking about, but that's not even my biggest gripe with the show. It was just... meh. So it has a setting and a career that I never once thought about, that's cool and all, but I just didn't give a shit about the characters (actually, I think one of Violet's co-workers was someone I was more interested in than anyone else, but she doesn't get enough time to shine). Violet herself is barely a character because she doesn't exactly have a personality. Yeah, yeah, child soldier and therefore no direction in life, but still, she was told to live and she doesn't even express emotions afterwards. So random ass unpopular opinion that probably no one cares about: Am I the only one who really doesn’t like Violet Evergarden like….at all (show isn’t terrible itself just not my thing but the movie just made it SO much worse)

Oh wow I was just watching Kino's Journey (2003) last night.Kino's Journey literally did it so much better, holy shit.
I've never read DanDaDan, but I looked up the main character and he looks like he deserves to be NTRed.(I have seen some anons on /a/ claim that a chunk of otaku thought that making Jiji a main character was the author adding NTR and dropped it, but I'm gonna assume that was the usual /a/ shitpost to try and get (you)s)
you can't escape thisJesus Christ. Nobody remembers what netorare actually means, and I feel like I should blame Gamergate for it thanks to the knockon effect of turning "cuck" into a universal disparagement. It's a term for a common porn plot, not a term for romantic competition. I almost expect dumbfuck posters with this mindset would go into a harem anime and claim the MC is "NTRing" all the other girls after a single focus episode on a side girl.

I think it's people becoming way too coombrained and media obsessed. It's not that previous anime didn't have the concept of a girl not being "pure" for having sex with someone else, but the lack of confidence went into overdrive so merely the implication is enough.Jesus Christ. Would a child soldier even be emotionless? I know it's a trope but unless the child is under massive amount of tranquilzers he should be either extremely aggressive or constantly distressed.child soldier
Violet literally has no emotion just because she doesn't know who she is and she's seen hell and the like. That's literally the set-up for her as a character, that she has to learn what love means to humans.Would a child soldier even be emotionless?
