After rewatching Frieren, I went back to the manga and caught up to the latest release.
Even after a year, the anime is still really fucking good, it's probably one of the best adaptations I've ever seen.

As for the manga, I'm really conflicted about how the story is developing.
I got into Frieren because it was a chill melancholic story about journeying through the world while reminiscing about the good old days, and connecting the modern happenings to things that happened before.
But now, the story is delving too deep into pure shonen slop territory, and while the characters, writing, visuals, and fights are still great, that's not really why I was following it in the first place. I was enjoying it because it was so different from most fantasy anime/manga, but it is slowly becoming just another one more to the pile.

Manga spoilers: The current arc has been going for 14 chapters, and there hasn't been a single flashback to the giga chad Himmel, like what the fuck. It has been mostly about just fights and setting up bad guys for future fights.
It feels like they are setting up the actual main conflict of the series, which will be "the end of magic" and "the humans were the real demons all along" or some bullshit like that.
Serie is giving so many death flags, I I'd be surprised if she actually survives the arc. Her death would leave Frieren as the last great mage and the only one capable of protecting magic.
I especially dislike the shadow warriors. Uber powerfull warriors that just follow orders, while having no identity, morals and emotions is such a cringe overdone cliché. And with Gorilla being one of them, I'm very curious to see if there will be satisfying explanation as to how they are able to turn normal people into soulless bugmen.

I think they made it clear that he had problems of some sort before he unexpectedly became the heir/emperor, which is why his mom effectively took the reins. After that, paranoia (probably justified) about potential assassins and the pressures of court life made him spiral further, but he wasn't normal to begin with.
Pretty much, it's good they didn't try to explain his behaviour with drugs.

The thing that amuses me is that pedo emperor is responsible for the current chad emperor that is seemingly into dommy mommy.
"the humans were the real demons all along"
I really fucking hope it's not the case because it feels like TLOU2 level of betrayal.

The Ruck Storage manga has been axed and has ended on 20 chapters, it was pretty by the numbers and if I'm being honest average at best, but I kind of like it solely because Ruck did some cool grappling/wrasslin moves after getting powered up for the first and I dug the arc with the knight sisters.

I thought all the current emperor is into is HUGE HONKERS.

I don't know that I felt much pathos regarding the previous emperor; he was obviously having problems but they didn't give those problems enough of a justification. He was just bitch-made and wanted to paint pictures and fuck kids. I did think it was funny when his hot-wife the current Imperial Mom mind broke him by raping him to try to get attention though.

The previous emperor is very similar to Michael Jackson or Pelagius from Skyrim. He was a neurotic mess from being controlled by his mother and the stress of being emperor so he became afraid of adult women and instead spent his time around kids which then eventually morphed into pedophilia.
The story doesn't defend his actions as the current Emperor hates his father and wishes to be the exact opposite in all ways which is why he unironically has an adult woman fetish.

Every once and a while I always return to the Patlabor 2 dub, primarily the Unjust War scene. While I normally would choose sub over dub, it really makes me wonder how overall anime dub quality managed to fall so far?

Its pretty crazy to me how Nagatoro started off as a short still-image manga over 10 years ago. i still remember first time reading and absolutely hated her. The amount of abuse the MC took was absurd. this was before NTR/cuckholding became mainstream as it is today.

Never watched or read the actual show but i hear her abuse was tuned down a bit which is nice i suppose.

"Tuned down" is an understatement. Nagatoro in the manga/anime teased & taunted Naoto in a comical manner. Original Nagatoro outright physically assaulted him.
Speaking of circus, did anyone see Kaleido Star?

I love Kaleido Star.

TorrentFreak: Disqus is Deleting Pirate Site Communities on Short Notice (archive)

Disqus purged comment sections from a bunch of pirate sites, including anime/manga. The one I actually noticed that wasn't mentioned is Rawkuma.

Meanwhile, the mangakakakakakalkalot family of sites has been dead for a few days. Some clones still exist.

Manga Entertainment was amazing when it was allowed to be amazing. While we giggle and snort over how colorful they made their dubs to make them be the "so bad, it's good" titles we remember them to be (or just outright schlocky trash like Junk Boy and Psychic Wars that had no chance in hell of being saved), we end up overlooking the more nuanced, mellow dubs they produced where they allowed those very same voice-actors to just act. Look, the X movie sucks ass despite being gorgeously animated, and some of the line-reading is lolworthy, but there were some wonderful voices spaced out throughout that I wish they had stuck around. Denica Fairman was cast in absolute shit, so her voice went unappreciated, but legit, she has a voice that is just pleasant to listen to.

Western otaku took things for granted, and now just look at the absolute state of the industry.
