Went through Bibliomania recently.
Nice art, shit story, so fucking tired of Alice in Wonderland allegories. Its a nonsense book written by a drug-addled madman, I will never understand the dick sucking and reverance for it.

Serpents design is cool, and his fate is pretty neato, up until the plot comes full circle and you realize how fucking stupid the entire plot was from the get-go.

It was supposed to be a "horror" manga, but I don't really find the concept "scary" or leaving me with any kind of existential terror.
A selfish little bitch born with a silver spoon in her mouth wants "all the knowledge" because its so unfair that she's sickly and can't go outside. Gets all the knowledge, pretty much becomes The Archivist Supreme, and then everyone dies because a selfish little bitch couldn't just be happy with a TV.
Wowie, a God being that can wipe out life with no consequence, woo. My fucking government is a source for more existential dread on a minute to minute basis than anything this story has to offer.

Always wished the movies had some sort of conclusive ending or at least a decent final fight even if Yagyu escaped. Great final film though. Lone Wolf and Cub is honestly in the top 3 anime film adaptions ever.

On a sidenote, anyone have any exact knowledge on why Bleach's fanservice has been censored so much. I know it's the current year, but I see a decent amount of anime that don't really nudge to that. Has there been an official reason why Bleach has cut some of the ecchi out other than "not matching the tone of the arc"?

You mean the adaption which is animated like ass because they couldn't keep the style consistent between scenes? And which is loaded with endless melodramatic nonsense like a 5 minute rant about how much the cops suck, lots and lots of nogs rapping, and gay sex scenes? It's like nobody could decide what tone the show should have. It doesn't even come off as woke because the gay guy is actually for whatever reason a colossal asshole villain in the end.

I'm trying to rewatch Galaxy Railways since I'm in the mood for some Leiji stuff. Holy cow, this is some grade A tripe. The show seems to be more interested in Manabu, our Gary Stu, wanting to be a train cop because he wants to. This isn't like Kodai fighting because he has to, or Harlock chasing ideals, or Tetsuro assuaging his grief -- it's blatant shonen writing wearing the skin of a legendary mangaka that no other mangaka will ever live up to. People who whine about Kira Yamato being a Gary Stu in Destiny have no idea what they're talking about if they tolerate stuff like this. The episode ideas are decent and the trains and stock footage are cool, but there is so much filler and annoying anime tropes it's absurd. You could probably squeeze this into a 6-episode OVA without sacrificing any plot points, no matter how minor. The worst part is that Leiji remakes don't have to be like this; 2199 made the original show cooler, and Ozma was very high quality.

Currently at 23 out of 24 translated chapters. Super suspenseful, really compelling read.
Has some NSFW elements, mainly how it depicts how a cut throat yakuza organization deals with traitors and assassins. There's a female assassin later on and to put it nicely they're not very kind to her.

Also has a live action movie that's a lot less suspenseful and more action-y.

The final chapter's finally translated. I did have two months to think about the plot and the only way it could have really ended so it's nothing truly wild but I feel a bit underwhelmed, like they really wanted to zoom to a conclusion and were getting tired.
Still highly recommend reading it.
 
Been so busy that I forgot to mention I finished Space Runaway Ideon!

I'm not gonna spoil too much but I will say that even though the ideas it had have been adopted by other mecha shows in the succeeding decades, it still managed to approach them in its own interesting way while also being distinct enough to stick with you.

Characters were likable, written in that charming Tomino style, the episodes, fights and interactions were always engaging, animation was great, music was not just good, but 80s good and overall - it is definitely one of Tomino's big masterpieces.

And of course, Be Invoked is a very heartwarming conclusion that wraps everything up in an emotionally touching bow, I was extremely happy for every one of the characters after watching it!

Highly recommend.

It's still surprising that Koichi Sugiyama never really did any anime OSTs after this to my knowledge. Love or hate the guy his work on the anime's OST was fantastic. Makes me wonder what a space-centered Dragon Quest would sound like.
