About a week ago now I finally watched End of Evangelion (Evangelion had been on my backlog for quite a while, but it wasn't until a month ago that I started binging it).

And I have to say: What the fuck was that?

On a completely seperate note, this season I've been keeping up with Little Witch Academia. It's quite fun, I'd recommend it (but watch the OVA's first).

Meant to bring it up here, but KF went down before I finished: I watched all of Ghost in the Shell: SAC last month. Yes, I watched it in preparation for the live-action movie in March, but I also had been meaning to watch the series for quite some time. It was pretty awesome, I'm just kicking myself for holding it off for so long.

Yoko Kanno's work on this OST is probably her best, but I haven't seen the other anime like Wolf's Rain and ∀ Gundam or hell, anything Gundam yet, so I can't really say. But I can definitely see why it is Richard Epcar says his favorite role is Batou.

Bastards of Netflix UK seem to be setting it up for bingewatching only as only the OVAs are up right now as the series airs.

Which I find very fusstrating.

Meanwhile Gabriel DropOut continues to be funnier and funnier every damn episode.

Yoko Kanno is a musical genius, imo. While I'll always have a soft spot for her work on Cowboy Bebop with the Seatbelts, among others, her work on GiTS:SAC is godly. It's listenable outside of the series, which is a rarity for a lot of anime.

Also, Richard Epcar fits Batou to a T.

I have such a love-hate relationship with Evangelion, and yet I just can't ever look away from the show and movies and can't stop listening to its soundtrack (but then again, Shirō Sagisu is talented). I honestly do believe EoE is one of, if not the most unique movie to date, if only for its sheer WTFery yet really impressive visuals, and no one will ever successfully top it. I don't think even Hideaki Anno will be able to top himself with the last Rebuild movie.

Watching The Idolmaster currently. Yayoi, Hibiki and that little bitch Iori are my favorites so far.

Also after listening to tons of Eurobeat I decided to download a complete archive of the Initial D manga. It's pretty well-drawn and the faces don't even bother me that much.

Waiting for a season 2 of Flying Witch!

The new opening of Dragon Ball Super is savage AF (pun intended):

Let's hope this new arc lives up to the hype.

I've also started to watch Spice and Wolf. When I first saw the little wolf girl I thought this would be some generic moe harem ecchi tomfoolery, but decided to give it a shot regardless and needless to say I'm pleasantly surprised so far. The interactions between Holo and Lawrence are charming and the (so far) slow, almost meditative pace of the episodes gives it an almost Hanabei Renmei kind of vibe.

Just finished watching the Ichi The Killer movie, I loved it it was brutal, funny and bloody and it was what i wanted out of a manga turned movie. And i loved the manga as well.

I found and am currently watching a 1967 movie called "(Young/Boy) Jack and the Witch", which doesn't look too bad so far. Anime like this and Space Pirate Captain Harlock make me wonder what exactly happened to Toei Animation to make them be such a divisive studio.

Corinne Orr is such an underrated voice actress, though. She's no June Foray, but it's a little sad that she doesn't have such a big recognition.

Tell me where you found it. It's never been put out on DVD.

What happened to Toei is that they basically stopped making movies that weren't an extension of their TV division sometime in the 80s, and it all went downhill from there.

This might be breaking the rules or something lol but I found it on KissAnime, it has both dub and sub. It's really good quality for something not released on DVD.

:c
Meanwhile, I was told that Toei Animation has made some really awesome CGI, and I've seen those examples before, but they still piss me off because they prove they can make good CGI, they just don't give a rat's ass like half the time.

Good choice, it's normally titled "Jack and the Witch" when an English version was offered to American TV stations in the 70's as part of a package of films American-International offered including Puss 'n Boots, Animal Treasure Island and Little Norse Prince (which I think is getting a BluRay release over here soon). Fun little diversion for an afternoon viewing I say.

Oh, money. The commercial potential of manga adaptations such as Captain Harlock and others that followed is what eroded their early theatrical greatness by the early 80's. They can't really do a Puss 'n Boots-level film anymore.

It is. Of course how could we known the same voice of Trixie also did the Snuggle Bear!

Here she gets to voice alongside Lionel "Eustace" Wilson in what I can only assume was one of Toei's LAST theatrical features based on a literary classic.

Probably found it off a video site (or BitTorrent).

Yep, no value in adapting books unless they got pictures in 'em!

Figures!

It's never been in the Japanese psyche to be concerned with doing things on 1's and 2's all the time I noticed, especially when it comes to inbetweens.
