Anyone who says Shinsekai yori is great "queer" representation is either missing the forest for the trees, a retard, or both. Yeah, it doesn't focus on it and make a big deal out of it, but it's really not a good representation if that's all anyone's looking for. I swear for a long time I thought this was what the series was about because of the dumbass fanbase when the dystopian world makes it a lot more eerie, albeit that tidbit gets brushed under the rug for other more serious shit.

AV Dan'yuu Hajimemashita
Soooo literally this '80s series but through the POV of the porn star instead of the crew?

Dunno about this series but this one is an autobiograpjy about his experiences as a newbie porn actor, he also works as a assistant director so we end up know much more about the behind the scenes and techniques when filiming.

Why the heck would excrement like this get translated when not even all of Galaxy Express 999 and Tetsujin 28 are in English, and there are great manga authors like Satoru Ozawa who have none of their manga in English? If they're translating this crap, there's absolutely ZERO excuse for us not having every single four-page Televi-kun manga in English, let alone pillars of Japanese fiction like the Undersea Battleship novels.

So I watched the first episode of an OVA called Getter Robo Armageddon... and was immediately lost.

Before this, most of my Getter exposure was this long video on youtube that goes over the history of the franchise. So part of me was wondering "is Armageddon just a show that expects you to be familiar?" But that same video says Armageddon is actually just as confusing to people who do know the lore.

Debating if I should continue watching it.

On the flipside, I sat down with two episodes of Mazinger Z and actually kind of enjoyed it. Mazinger Z is kind of trailblazing: it teaches that purple people are evil, transexualism is the result of mad science, and that if you're gonna build a mecha for your grandchildren you should also write the instruction manual.

Also watched a thing called God Mazinger because its for free on literally everything.... and it wasn't what I expected. I liked what I saw.

On this note.... (And this may be more suited for a gaming topic, but) not long ago there was this video game released called UFO Robo Grendizer: The Feast of the Wolves. Is that game any good?

Getter Robo Armageddon's first 3 episodes are considered to be weird for fans/non fans but afterwards the director changes and things start to make a BIT more sense. I would still recommend reading the manga for the series not just because it helps to smooth things over but because it's really fucking good and it's extremely short (the entire series clocks in at less than 60 chapters iirc).

If you are interested in watching something Getter related without reading the manga, I feel as though New Getter Robo is a pretty solid introduction to the three most important pilots in the series as well as a primer into what you'll kind of be getting into with the series. The manga is still your best bet if you want the full scope of just how nuts everything is and a must read.

Kind of annoyed at how hard it is to find Thunderbolt Fantasy this season. Pretty much can only grab it off Nyaa as a raw with hard coded moonrune subs and then slap an English file on top of it. Taiwanese puppet shows deserve better man.

It's a great queer representation as in literal example of state enforced homosexuality.

You shouldn't start with armaggedon. It uses references not only to getter but other Ishikawa works, the first three Episodes was done by a guy who leaves after (and the prequel is an audiodrama). Go with the original anime or New. But the best option is the manga in the release order.

I recently watched 2 indy passion projects and absolutely loved them.
Ongaku(2020) is nice light-hearted sol about airhead delinquent who creates music band. Movie is rotoscoped and takes place in the 90's(timeframe doesn't matter). It was really feel-good and somewhat funny 70 minutes.
Junk Head(2017) is sci-fi story about future human who travels deep into long abandoned depths filled with sapient and not-so-sapient creations humanity left behind. Dude is seeking secret of reproduction lost by near-immortal humans, who began dying out. This is claymation anime with nice character and creature designs and genuinely exciting action scenes. Characters themselves are interesting and three lil black dudes are my favourites

I have never followed directors or studios before, but i'm really waiting for Hyakuemu and Junk World, both planned for 2025

You already got some answers but in short...

-Getter Robo Armageddon is kind of a 'bad ending' to the original series that serves as a sequel, so yeah, it expects you to at least know the basics. The idea is that at some point before, there was an alien invasion of shapeshifting monsters [the Invaders] who the original team managed to drive off, with all four members - Ryouma, Hayato, Musashi and Benkei - being alive at the same time [just know this isn't normal]. At some point after, however, the original love interest Michiru got crushed during a combination attempt that went wrong and Ryouma was then framed for killing her dad, Professor Saotome.
-Mazinger Z has an alternate version called Shin Mazinger that was made in the 00s which modernizes stuff but isn't really bad. Just expect different stuff.
-Apparently FotW isn't that great all things considered, which sucks.

The first three episodes of Armageddon are very different from the rest of the OVA because of a change in directors, but it's all worth it anyway. You're supposed to be familiar with Getter since the OVA is a sequel to Getter Robo/Getter Robo G. Watch it, but also watch the 70s anime/read the manga if you want to understand it.

The 70s Toei shows come across as very fresh even today and tend not to live up to the stereotypes of super robots. The 70s Dynamic Pro shows are very focused around problem-solving using advanced technology, intelligence, and quick-wittedness rather than magic emotional power-ups and ridiculously powerful attacks, and every single thing on the robot has a plausible, grounded purpose. In many ways these 70s shows are more realistic than Gundam!

It's a straight adaptation of the first three episodes of the 70s Grendizer anime with very simplified gameplay. You're better off watching the 70s anime. By the way, stay away from Grendizer U -- that show is so bad it almost feels intentionally incompetent.
