Pirate sites are necessary because the best anime will probably never be licensed/rescued. Crunchyroll will delete anything that doesn't do mainstream/moe numbers. Most Sunrise anime are not only too expensive to be licensed, but also too obscure to be worth it, so your best bet is if Sentai picks up a show like Galient occasionally (though they recently lost a bunch of shows like Votoms, Dunbine, Xabungle, Ideon, and even LOGH). We'll probably never get most non-GGG Braves or the Muteki trilogy because mecha fans with purchasing power really tend to dislike comedy and cartoony antics (this is why Daltanious is Discotek's worst-selling title), racing shows like Machine Hayabusa and Future GPX are off the table because sports anime (understandably) sell poorly, many shows like Dangard Ace and Grendizer are locked behind exorbitantly expensive pilot movies, shows like MD Geist and Mechander Robo have nonexistent copyright holders, and many OVAs like Super Atragon or Dangaioh are just too obscure to care about. I really hope Sentai is able to license more mecha since they really seem to care about it (they've licensed SUPER obscure stuff like Gold Lightan and Urashiman) and there needs to be a second licensor with a collection of majority above-average shows to successfully rival Crunchyroll, but Sentai seems to always lose these mecha shows because they can't handle rising fees or can't afford to even sub them -- but at least they don't steal fansubs like Crunchyroll does. I swear, Crunchyroll is as money-hungry and bereft of passion for anime as ARR!
