I have no idea why I'm still watching Overlord. It's repetitive, aimless, and the main character is a retarded piece of shit.

Overlord is a prime example of how you should not make the protagonist as OP as you can, because eventually the show can't throw the problems at you to create something entertaining. Hell, the later seasons just focuses on Albedo and she is just as frustrating to watch as Ainz is.

My wife and best friend keep trying to insist to me that I should watch Overlord and I have to keep reminding them that I don't watch Isekai trash.
 
I finally broke down and watched the Yamato remake. Excellent ships (they really took a page from Macross here, which is great considering the original Yamato's designs were barebones) and tech details (like the food replicator, the explanation of warp, and navigational computer) so far, but episode 7 is pure brim. Okay, the messages from Okita's family were kind of cool since they reminded me of Bright getting messages from his family, but a costume party? A girl in a maid dress? Navel-gazing romance and "character drama" nonsense? REEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is Yamato, not Nadesico! A shame, because until that point it was like watching 0079 for the first time all over again, even though I've already seen the original Yamato. On the other hand, this has made me curious about the Terra E anime, so what's that like? I'm hoping it won't have any nonsense like in episode 7 since it's a fujobait series.
 
As someone who watch every episode Overlord and read all of LN translations, gotta say you guys aren't missing out right now. At first, it was pretty fun watching the world react to dealing with an unstoppable force and Ainz as bumbling oaf, yet smooth salesman was enjoyable, but the author clearly lost the plot I don't think they have any idea how they want to or can end the story in a satisfying way. Aside from how the last volume ended, the last installment felt like a giant waste of time and I remember a lot of people feeling the same.

I expected more fights like MC vs vampire girl in S1, but I don't think we EVER got a real fight of that calibur ever again, the only halfway decent fights were between some grunts here and there.

I'm also just disgusted by some of the characters and finds parts poorly written. Season 1 was really promising but this is bad now.

I've been watching a lot of Isekai, some is truly good, others terrible, but the ratio has been something like 33/33/33 for good, bad, and mid so it's actually a pretty consistently good genre tbh. Just skip Overlord.

I watched it for a very different reason than my sisters when I was a kid.

Overlord is about some MMO nerd who is transported to a real version of the game in his overpowered undead character's body. He is OP and easily kills 99% of his problems and barely has a goal (maybe find his friends from his game guild who may or may not even be there, he has 1 (one) lead suggesting they might be).

I dunno man, I really dislike a lot of the tropes. Like I don't know how many times I can watch Takashi-Everyman show up to generic European Town #47 in his fucking track suit and acquire a harem.

It pains me that Konosuba is more compelling with its world and main character than like 99% of Isekai. Even down to getting rid of the fucking track suit and actually making progress with the girls in his harem.

Konosuba is incredible, definitely better than even most serious isekai, and definitely has the best comedy by a mile, but there's plenty of other good ones. Not sure what you tried, but Shield Hero is maybe the best in the genre, plus Re:Zero and Mushoki Tensei are very good. If you tried and disliked those then it's probably not a good genre for you, I guess.

I definitely understand your criticism, formulaic barely begins to describe a lot of these, even the good ones tend to be just extremely well executed versions of the same formula tropes along with some interesting twists to try to cover that up, but personally I don't mind.

However, if you want a suggestion for something that's quite a bit different, The Weakest Tamer Began A Journey To Pick Up Trash (I'm begging you not to dismiss this one based on the, no pun intended, trash title) is extremely overlooked.
