100%. The series is goddamn foundational.

Everything fantasy typically comes back to Tolkien in some way, but I think most japanese media creators don't follow him too much, and see Lodoss more as their fantasy brand "root", foundational as you said. I see countries, races, and even symbology from Lodoss that were 100% taken and used in things like Fire Emblem over the years. Dark Souls also took a lot from Lodoss, but I do feel as though FromSoft knows a bit more about Tolkienian Lore than your average japanese consumer.

I gave Fullmetal Alchemist (2003) a watch. I can see how people kind of prefer it over Brotherhood. It's a completely different feel to it, I may not know if the creator even liked it or not seeing how the 2003 anime went a completely different path from how the manga wanted it to go. I don't know if Arakawa even had a hand with it since it feels like they've begun expanding a lot of the characters in it despite some of the filler shit. Like It's nice seeing Hughes in action to really let you know he's capable of getting things done.
The Nina scene now has some fucking weight to it now since we see her around the Elric brothers
edit:also the opening song is better than Yui's Again
The creator definitely had a hand in looking it over and at least signed off on it for what it's worth. I have nothing against brotherhood, but it's a little too "clean" for my liking, and the characters have terminal same-face syndrome. Brotherhood's 7 deadly sins shit is also pretty cliché, and Nowhere Near as interesting as the "dead people that alchemists try to resurrect become homunculi" plot from 03. 03 is kindov perfectly edgy, fitting for when it came out. Like Ed literally murdering greed, which he starts to freak out about afterwards because naturally a kid shouldn't have to go through that.

I mainly find Hetalia appealing because of the historical satire and refferences etc. I tend to avoid shows and games with a bad fanbase which is why I often refuse to play sonic.
Is Hetalia good? I've been considering watching it because it seems like muh Sharty countrywars/polandball as anime and that's quite amusing to me.

Arakawa approved of the 2003 anime, she's even drawn the 2003-exclusive homunculi a couple times. Anyone who claims she hated it is a bullshitting manga purist.

Even as someone who isn't much of a fan of 2003, it is dumb to say she hates 2003.

It is somewhat known that Arakawa was also the one to encourage the anime to take its own path from the manga since the anime was made when the manga was not even done yet.

Is this where people say "it could have been worse?"
TMNT Naruto.png
Chojin Densetsu is still the best anime take on TMNT. They get time-sensitive transformation powers from a Ferario, and the third chapter of the manga involves Shredder turning the Twin Towers into a superweapon. The turtles even have a gattai in that chapter.

is it just me or do a lot of manga creators get sentenced to jail for tax evasion? Like the writer for Log Horizon was sent to jail too, right? are they just failing to file their taxes?

To Be A Hero X looks interesting, I guess it jumps between 2D and 3D animation

Just to leave this out since it put me off a lot, i was subscribed to this weeb called KaiserBeamz because he usually reviews things related to obscure 90s anime and OVAs, i was watching his video on the Battle Athletes franchise until for some reason starting at the 19:17 mark the man dedicated a section to seethe about a character that basically served as transvestite gag and rant about trannies being excluded from female sports, made me unsubscribe, and i know this isn't and insolated instance since this is a tendency he has in his videos, why do western weebs (or this guy in particular) are like this?
