You just sound like you've been filtered by CHADshoku Tensei, to be frank.
You write like you have terminal internet brain rot, to be frank. It's just a bad show, and it's annoying hearing everyone say how great the emperor's clothes look when he's bare-ass naked

Thoughts about this article about Mahou Shoujo and madoka magica?
I don't watch enough mahou shoujo to weigh in on the subject matter, but it's refreshing to see there are still real people writing long-form blogs about anime. Used to be every other autist out there would have a blog with rambling essays on niche anime subjects and in-depth episode-by-episode reviews. I'd thought they died off after the YouTube react meta made them obsolete, but I guess there are still some out there. Good to know.
Bring back the Moe Boom.

Agreed.

It's OK if you don't understand it, not everything has to be made to suit your tastes. Personally I think Lucky Star is an abysmal waste of talent but here we are.

It's a good blog, I think they're mostly right. My biggest problem with Madoka is something they mention, that it was mostly western fans who didn't actually know anything about Magical Girls that let Madoka warp their whole view of the genre. It's a pretty show and would certainly come off as unique and interesting if you didn't know much about Magical Girls but largely didn't do anything new. Western fans just thought it did. Shinbo worked on Nanoha actually and you can see the influence from that early on in Madoka.

I feel for the author's struggles when it comes to peoples ignorance of magical girls and all its intricacies.
I really, really enjoyed Madoka Magica, but that was because it was just a really solid, well-executed story with good characters, interesting themes and stellar presentation. Mahou Shoujo having dark themes is nothing new (Sailor Moon had the ending of the first season where everyone fucking dies in various surprisingly brutal ways, and that show is definitely on the lighter side!).

Reminds me on the note of sad magical girl shows, I need to watch Doremi at some point. It's my understanding it's really good, and the final season is completely heartbreaking.

Yes. And I have to recommend doing it like this, despite Naisho coming out later, you have to save Dokkan for last. Watch the first three seasons, then Naisho, and then Dokkan. The end of Dokkan needs to be the last thing you watch and Naisho chronologically takes place between Motto and Dokkan anyways. The last dozen or so episodes of Dokkan make up one of the greatest endings in all of anime. There's also the two movies to watch during Sharp and Motto.

I think Patlabor 2 is the ultimate litmus test for poor taste in media. If you're unable to enjoy it then I'm sorry, but you are objectively a sub-10IQ brownskin with no life prospects and will probably end up working in fast food service for the rest of your life.

I don't make the rules, I just relay them from on high.

Does anyone else get annoyed by the uploaders who direct you to their website - including using nasty things like loads of watermarks or tricking aggregators to copy incorrectly - only for their site to redirect to an app or no longer exist?

I'm going to make a guess before I read the article that because the majority of magical girls IPs are shoujo, the demographic now as a whole is just not popular/profitable for anime adaptations anymore due to their sheer lengths (it's rare to get a series these days to last a good year straight). It was considered rather unusual for a shoujo series to be two-cour, especially if it was a magical girl series. They relied that heavily on merchandising and viewership. Can't find an audience to buy your toys of? Canned.

But also Pretty Cure is a juggernaut. Even fucking Eiichiro Oda has made a (joking) comment about how his children's favorite series is PreCure and not One Piece, both IPs which Toei produces the anime for and makes a shit-ton of money off of.

I simply do not listen to or care about these notices. A pirate is a pirate and forfeits all moral pretence the second they read manga without paying for it, no amount of mental gymnastics by scanslation teams will ever change that fact.

No I do not pay for online manga.

No I never will.

let me guess, that was when you got into anime where everything was new and there was a huge backlog of good stuff?
Not even man. I'm really not trying to old fag here but my first experiences watching Japanimation was when the Sci-fi channel was doing Saturday morning anime movies. I remember watching Lum 2: Beautiful Dreamer when they were running a week long programing of anime in the evenings. If anything it was impossible to get a backlog.
I'm not trying to talk shit, just like to point out not everything can be a miyazaki movie. once you get into something and the honey-moon period is over/the good stuff exhausted, that's what it is, especially when you start to understand it better to a degree you see the tropes everything has (even miyazaki). it's the same effect of "where is all the good stuff gone" - it's still there, people just don't know/don't remember all the forgettable stuff that came alongside it. for example check the oscar nominations from 10-20 years ago, do you even remember most of those movies?
No I get you. I have gotten pretty cynical about most media since about 2020 so I won't discount that I'm the problem. I don't know. I'm not asking for the moon with each new show. I guess I just feel like shit's gotten lazy or maybe complacent, like no one cares anymore about artistry. It's not like I don't care about goofy stuff either. One of my favorite shows is Girls und Panzer. That show is rock stupid sport anime but the guy behind it had a real passion in the tanks, their designs, their operations, the representation of each country that it all becomes this real compelling show about cute girls blowing the ever loving shit out of each other. I think that's what I want, something that just has some care behind it.
Really? I remember Devil is A Part Timer being a fairly standard romcom when I watched it about a decade ago, though I still haven't watched the second season that came out recently.
There are elements of romcom in it but it a inverse isekai first and foremost. I watched some of the second season but it didn't click with me. The animation felt off and from what I remember the first few episodes felt like they doing the same exact jokes and set ups while winking at the camera.

I know it's not the main purpose but I was just forced to marathon this with a friend and please allow me to say, and ask, if anyone has ever seen this? And if so, also had the uncontrollable urge just to kill someone?

I've watched about half a dozen anime in my existence, and I'm honestly amazed, this is by far, no exaggeration, the faggiest shit I have ever seen, you would have to be born an actual imbecile, molested for 10 years straight, and given a heavy concussion to unironically like this show. I am genuinely sorry that I slacked off during my educational years, for now, I lack the vernacular to properly insult this vile slop of a Japanese pedophile's cartoon for the deranged and perverted.

The highlights have got to be, in my opinion:
  1. A perverted m.c. with literally no morals that has a shrine with the underwear of a woman 10 times his age, made when he was 4;
  2. Him losing his virginity to a 16-year-old as a 15-year-old, she being his fucking cousin
  3. And an un-ironic second season ( that mind you, this show is in a magical world ), where half the run time, I shit you not, was wasted on him fixing his fucking erectile dysfunction after being one night stand'ed by his cousin.
So knowing all of this, how in the name of the mother, does this have this score?

I'm sorry If this sounds mati, again, I was forced to sit in that room for almost 12 hours as I had promised to indulge someone all the while both of us lost the will to live.
Rudeus unrepentant horniness keeps me from fully enjoying this otherwise well put together show. I don't know if it has anything to do with him appearing in his dumpy past life form when the god thing shows up, like he can't let go of what he is and become Rudeus. If' that's the show's end game then holy shit I got the point by episode 3. I hardily disagree with your synopsis of the second season. It's more like 90% of the second season is about him trying to get his dick fixed. Wasn't it the end of the first or second episode where he realizes he can't get it up which then sets the ENTIRE rest of the season into motion? Sure there was the magic high school arc but all of that was in service of him trying to get his dick back working. It was double frustrating as we had that episode in the first season where he kinda realized that he wasn't doing everything to find his family. I can fully understand your outrage after going into that blind for 12 hours.

For people that say that Madoka is a mahou shoujo deconstruction (urghhh), I always wanted to see they explain why, because that is how you see how the fuck they dont know shit about the genre, it is the same shit with evangelion.

My favorite mahou shoujo will always be Fate/kaleid Liner Prisma Illya, a series that starts as a parody of Mahou shoujo, then turns into a slice of life with Fate/ elements, then turns into a Fate/ series then turns into a Lostbelt story. It started long before Madoka, back in 2007 and it is still ongoing and it grew up so much in all senses, the writing, the artstyle, as a franchise (it is the one of the longest still running manga from TYPE-MOON, it is also the longest anime adaptation with the most episodes/run time, and also it is has the most game appearances in other games than anything else)

It became a sub franchise born out of a single manga that 10 years after the first anime, is still ongoing (really slowly) and still giving in great moments.

And it isn't even a dark retelling, it is a parody that became a legitimate part of the Fate/ franchise and storyline, it is full of hope just like a regular mahou shoujo series would be.

This might be a pretty vague request but does anybody know the name of an old anime where the plot is about a woman whose goal is to destroy the world I think? but the twist is that the guy shes dragging along is actually the miguffin she's looking for.

At least half those shows are harems.
I went to go look at what shows came out in 2006 and just remembered that Nerima Daikon Brothers was Winter 2006 and your argument is now moot point. 2006 was unpredictable and dammit I want that era back.

My Deer Friend Nokotan is shaping up to be this season's ahitpost anime. I'm guessing Nokotan is a child demigod? Or maybe an insane robot.

I don't think anyone knows what deconstruction is, from Google it is supposed to be taking apart a work by its own internal logic, but nowadays it's morons saying "hey this trope doesn't work in real life", as if that proves something. In Madoka I really liked the idea of people doing a selfless wish and then getting assblasted that it didn't go their way, which is a legit good moral, but doesn't really extend to other shows. I think the claims of it being deep is just people trying to justify seeing a Magical Girl anime which has some bad connotations.

Back to Ilya I really liked it and, like Nanoah (anyone remembers that) it started as a shitpost that fell into place by its own merit. The first season fight against Saber is better in my opinion than the later mainline series films that ditched choreography entirely.

They just need to bring back magical women.
Did Okusama wa Mahou Shoujo even do well enough to garner more adult magical girls? It fell apart in the narrative right after the halfway point and I don't think it sold well in Japan. (I don't believe an uncensored version even exists, the white-out transformation sequence looked intentional.)

It would have to be uncensored or I'm not watching.
