Anyone remember Origin: Spirits of the Past? After many years I remembered it as I was looking though scifi animes of years past. It also helped that the opening credits and song are really memorable. I miss interesting scifi like that. I think the closest in theme to Origin is Terraformars but that series kinda whimpered out the second season.
 
Does anybody know where I can read all the chapters of Golgo 13? Every online Manga site I know of does not have all chapters, they all stop at around volume 4 or 5.

Also, Berg Katse from the oldschool Gatchaman, who is explicitly intersex, and the protagonist expresses sympathy for the condition.
 
Been rewatching Valvrave The Liberator.

Good gosh, I just remembered how much the second cour nosedived in quality. The more I think over it, the more frustrated I get. From the insulting way it treated my favorite character (Saki Rukino), to it pulling the memory loss thing out of it’s butt, to Shoko’s betrayal, and how Haruto remained pretty much static purely to facilitate his relationships with L-Elf and Shoko at the cost of character growth, that last half was an absolute mess.

If the rumors that it was meant for more seasons and that they had to cut it short are true, that explains a lot. But given how I heard G-Witch from the same writer suffers similar problems of not utilizing potential characters and plot elements correctly is proof, than maybe this is just a problem with the writing of Ichiro Okouchi.

That said, it has gotten my creative juices flowing. Specifically, I’m now thinking of writing a fic that, at least to me, fixes a lot of the problems I have with it. Stupid of me? Maybe. But I just see so much potential that was not taken advantage of.

Heck, I even started writing an outline for it.

Finished season 1 of Black Lagoon. was quite good.
Didn't expect Revy's arc to be "she's a retarded doomer loser who can only do like two things right." but it's kind of fun.
Looking forward to S2 but haven't started it yet.

Working on re-watching FLCL for the first time since the 00's. My original viewing of it was as the artisans of Zipangu had intended their work to be experienced. On youtube, in 3 parts, and in 480p.

Thinking of giving Record of Lodoss War a watch after this. I've heard some good things about it. Just need to watch some older anime in general.

Has anyone here watched Legend of The Galactic Heroes? Is the original 1988 to 1997 OVA series the way to go? Or are there better ways to go through it?

Not really, no.

But I just see so much potential in the series’s world and characters that it just frustrates me that they didn’t do more with it.

Hianime seems to be missing some shows, Aniwave (formely 9anime) seems to have more of those said missing shows.

I've been on a 80s/90s OVA binge-watching spree, and I wonder what is the obsession with random sex scenes in those shows, and some just happen out of nowhere. The one sex scene in Hell Target (which is Event Horizon in anime OVA form), where the two people are running for their lives, only to suddenly get horny and then sex happens, was so sudden.

I do like the autistic attention to car designs in those older shows, and it's to the point that you can instantly recognize what real-life car it is.

Those older shows also have lines that you would NEVER see in today's anime:

The funniest thing is, white women and homosexual men are the only people who give a fuck about this gay woke shit but simultaneously, white women and homosexual men are the only people who like Demon Slayer. When I took a (white) woman to see the Mugen-Train movie in theaters, it was packed and 95% white women, the other 5% looked like homos and there were a few nonwhite women, I of course was the only straight man in the audience. Maybe the key to getting white women to start thinking woke shit is fucking insufferable is for these people to keep attacking Demon Slayer. The date was horrible btw, the bitch started crying when Rengoku died and didn't stop until I got her something to eat. Also, I'm not saying most white women are woke or anything like that because woke people in general are kind of a rarity to stumble upon irl at least for me, I'm just saying that of woke people, a large portion of them happen to be white women.

Anime from that time were like the B-movies of Hollywood. Erotic-thrillers were also a thing thanks to Fatal Attraction and Basic Instinct, and I wouldn't doubt they got popular in Japan.

Also c'mon, you're talking about OVAs here, mainly for adults and there was so little censorship with them.

It's sad how 30 years ago you could have way more violence and nipples on TV than you can today. Everything is either hardcore gore flick/porno or even more tame than those christian bible stories videos

Yeah, OVAs didn't have to worry about broadcast standards. The last of the old-school-style sex-and-violence shock OVAs I can remember seeing is Denpa Teki Na Kanojo from 2009.

On the western side of media one reason I see floating around more frequently as of late is zoomers who claim to be victims of EPI having an instinctive fear of having anything resembling sexualization in any media they consume on a regular basis. The internet being how it is today and given how much we keep on finding out about secret grooming discord servers which have been in operation for years, I think it's a plausible explanation. Getting hooked on porn early in life can fuck you up pretty badly, and who knows how many victims of people like giggly goonclown are just now entering the adult world?

I see it as more of they don't want to show the porn stuff that people would like, but instead show the porn stuff that people would abhor, and make the scenes so pointless, that they are there just for shock value. The Last of Us 2's infamous sex scene (and Sony's hypocrisy about removing sexual content in other games on PlayStation), the Velma cockroach sex scene, and Cuties as a whole, come to mind.
