Because spending every penny in the budget does not keep costs down. Hollywood doesn't understand this, but Japan does.
See Godzilla Minus One made for less than fifteen million.
Black Skin Shitty Gyaru: Self-absorbed to an insane degree, expects you to worship at her muk muk-idolizing feet. Lily White Yuki Gyaru: Concerned about others, expects you to be the best person you can be because she idolizes that kind of person. View attachment 5760534
Yesterday's episode was pretty sweet. Glad everyone got along and we didn't get the misunderstanding anime trope that would last till the end of the season. Snow Gyaru the show has been done great by Silver link this season.
Ataru makes sense in his romcom world. He is a lecher, who got married by accident to a clingy, superpowered girl. While that sounds like a total win for us irl weebs, for him, a womanising lecher who is good at it, not so.
I would be harsher on him if he intentionally seduced Lum and than became an ass.
It's kinda interesting to compare him to the standard romcom protagonist that's essentially a pale shadow that is "kind", "gentle" and "helpful" and gets all the women just because he's there and breathes.
If you divide the number of total episodes by the average most shows get it almost ran for 9 whole seasons, would you say it was just a generic money maker that exploited a lack of good taste in the teen demographic? Or did it have any actual good things going for it I've yet to see after episode 20?
I don't even think it was demographic exploitation. Studio Pierrot probably snapped this up just so they could have more shows to put on the Japanese airwaves and weren't satisfied with just Boruto. It's entirely disposable trash.
Only thing to note is how much of a clusterfuck episode 63 in particular is, because they wanted a big animation episode but were so understaffed that they had to hire a huge amount of randies off Twitter and also put a big orange filter on stock footage of a tidal wave or whatever.
How could everyone forget about Rika!
(also how do you need to double up on VAs for Genshin Impact? They have the money to get different VAs for different characters) View attachment 5760497
I haven't played Genshin for two years, but from my memory Qiqi is a non story character that doesn't almost never says anything, while Nahida is full on plot center character.
Also a shame Nanoha died after Madoka took the spot of edgier magical girl anime.
I'm not exactly sure Ataru "loves" Lum, or at least, it's shown very poorly. Of course comedy anime so any development or emotion is heightened to absurd degrees, and of course they're fated to be together by the plot itself, but watching the remake it's almost amusing how Ataru essentially has the trappings of a .... sort of domestic abuser? I'm not saying this as a critique or anything (God forbid placing such themes in UY) but the only situation where Ataru shows a minimum of worry about Lum is when she tries to dump him or some other man shows clear interest (and even then, not always). It's like "I don't care about my wife and her well-being but the instant she's going to leave me I'll go ballistic".
I understand that's probably unintended, but it looks like he gives a shit only when he's in danger of losing her (a fate that honestly he deserves), dumping on her untold amount of public humiliation and barely caring about her feelings in everyday life. The Cow episode was the first time in two seasons where Ataru had a minimal amount of empathy.
Of course, Lum is completely schizo and abusive herself, but everyone in UY is a psychotic, violent schizo and that's great.
From watching only the new anime, it seems that Ataru cares more about the fun of chasing girls than actually banging them and settling down, and doesn't really want to immediately get married before even finishing highschool. And the few times he actually manages to get a girl he chased, he gets bored from her pretty fast.
I legit started watching it, first few episodes I'm running on an "Oh, so this guy has no powers and will just have to out might everyone with pure training and dedication to get to the top" high, but then the nigga gets the "Ultra rare never before seen 6 clover (Please don't steal my OC)" book, that allows him to summon some faggy sword that is more akin to a toy hammer than anything worthwhile to fight with, shit could've at least drawn blood but whatever I suppose.
All the interest in seeing him succeed is gone now that he has a rare nullifying item because It'll most likely be revealed that he is special - this shit is like Naruto all over again - but I digress.
Am I just not seeing something in it or is it legit just normie pre-teen power fantasy bait?
Don't watch it, it's a meme like Morbious or boku no pico.
The concept was intriguing, Everyone gets a spellbook that contains all the magic they will ever be able to pull off and everyone's magic is unique, and then you get this one idiot that has a magic negating sword. I think it was copying works like Fairy Tail and the Fate series, which were popular before Black Clover came out.
But
The animation is bad
the storytelling is bad
the artstyle is bad
the voice acting is ATROCIOUS. the main character is always yelling, and the exact same way every time no matter what is going on. Someone calls him an idiot? "HUUUUUUU" Something bad happens? "HUUUUUUU" He gets attacked? "HUUUUUU" Something good happens? "HUUUUUUU" There's food out? "HUUUUUUU" Something cool happens? "HUUUUU"
I dunno about Undead Unluck. Having a manga writer in a Japanese work is as much as a red flag of incoming self wank as a Hollywood film referencing the movie industry. It doesn't help her first appearance she's a bit of a mary sue that can use Undead's power better than he can.
Undead Unluck in general just has too much shit going on. You can make a good story purely on one plot aspect, but it's starting to become a mess.

it is very much a mess. It was interesting at first, but it has since jumped to "we gotta kill god now" and it's just too much. dropped it from my server

Undead is also probably one of Shonen Jump's biggest flops in awhile, people look at the KnY and JJK and expect that every WSJ anime to 10x their manga sale and be spammed on almost every internet board/form.
I'm trying to think what was the last Jump series that did this bad in terms of being talked about/boosting the manga, I think it was either Roboco or Ayakashi Triangle if you want to be technical though the former was a 3 min per episode anime that I don't think ever got translated and the latter got their broadcast delayed for 6 months because of the cough.
Aside from that you might have to go back 6-7 years to when jump still had haremshit (Yunna and Bokuben) or Hinomaru which (although I did like it) I remember people mocking it for being a yakuza sponsored front because of it's laughable performance.
A deep level of cringe unless it's a teenager, which in that case will be pity instead.
Kakushigoto had a great segment on how you need anime merch to look like something a sane person would wear if you want it to sell.
I would say if you're on a KiwiFarms board talking about seasonal anime, the privilege to cringe at anyone or anything has been rescinded a long time ago.
I said this to someone on the "red flags for people into music" when someone discussed band merch and I'll say it again: Just let people wear their fucking shirts
On a good note, End of Evangelion is coming to a local theater soon.
This might not be the worst timeline afterall.
Also, this might belong more in the unpopular opinions tab but I'll be honest, I just want to sperg about something for a second.
I know that even if I watched more episodes of Freiran or The Apothecary Diaries, they would not hold a candle to the amount of joy Zom100 gave me during it's run.
I forgot how entertaining and beautiful of an artform anime could actually be until watching Zom. It reminded me anime could still be fun and that weekly releases were something to actually look forward to instead of just slogging through.
Zom became one of my favorite anime of the last several years due to this one scene.
I haven't had the type of catharsis from watching anything even remotely close to seeing a late bloomer japanese salaryman tell off his narcissistic boss with a smile on his face.
This show is a fucking godsend and was my personal anime of the year.

Nah, there is no cringe in having your own private hobbies on your free time (as long as they are legal). It turns into cringe when you start oversharing those subjects without being asked to.
I did forgot to specify that I meant shirts with actual anime characters on them rather than more elegant logos or silhouettes. It's just a crime against fashion
Is manhwa okay to talk about here? I have been reading Hero Has Returned and it's too good not to share.
I think a lot of people can be turned away at the start because it seems incredibly edgy, but that is getting away from it.
Basically, it starts with this korean guy getting isekai'd into a fantasy land, meets people, has to kill the demon king, you get it.
The true problems start when he gets home after killing the demon king. He has been missing for years, everyone around him has died due to truly tragic events, or blames him for the death of said family.
He is basically left with no family, no money, no education, no friends, basically abandoned after he spending so much time trying to get back to earth.
He is at his lowest point, and it all comes to ahead when he accidentally enrages a dude walking down the street. He decides to just call for his isekai weapon.
And then this happens:
He ends up going on a rampage. In fact, that would be charitable. He takes one spin around with his sword and levels an entire city.
The rest of the manhwa is basically different stand in for fictional heroes (Power Ranger, Magical Girl, etc) gruesomely beating the shit out of each other. What I have said is only scratching the surface, so I would highly recommend reading the full thing yourself.
Sci Fi girl from World War 2 uses silicon valley itself as a fucking metal gear.
Power rangers warrior was basically in a coma from third degree burns from his suit malfunctioning, fights again anyways with it and literally turns into ash at the end of the fight.
..Fucking Belphagor. Hitler's right hand man who a nigga encased in amber.

I just don't understand the horseshoe of people on either side of political aisle giving a shit about little things people do as a sign of expressing themselves. We're talking about shirts here.
One of the biggest problems we have right now is have a generation of boring faggots who don't want to draw attention to themselves in any way. Every other generation was less afraid of being cringe than we are and managed to be less cringe as a result.
But by all means, yes. Wear Nikes and Hurleys and baige pants. Because being a walking ad is more important than expressing an interest in something you like and offending the fashion sense of a dudebro. It's a fucking shirt.
I know this is the anime thread but I just really hate that mindset I see pop up on this site sometimes. Metal bands, anime, movie posters, who gives a shit. Just let people wear what they like instead of trying to micromanage people's self-expression like a soccer mom. That's why people hate woke shit to begin with.
