Is this show any good? It looks crazy enough to be funny for maybe one episode before wearing out its welcome.

If you mean MaoMao’s Dad he’s more of a fuckup. He’s a genius whose master plan to wed his wife got derailed when the war went longer than he planned and he couldn’t reliably send her money. Him fucking impregnating her was his Keikaku to lower her price. He still loves MaoMao’s mom even when syphilis has destroyed her brain. He genuinely loves MaoMao. It’s not a power play thing. It’s actually well written in the light novel.

This is a huge fumble on Discotek's part, though it's not directly THEIR fault that the dub ended up like this. The state of the dubbing industry is irreversibly fucked. Archive of the post.

I can at least vouch for the manga being very good. There's good jokes and some really cool looking sequences where they're fighting. One joke in particular was good enough I had to catch my breath from laughing for a minute before I could continue reading.

From shots that I've seen, the anime has added full toplessness where the manga just had traditional mahou-shoujo implied nudity transformations etc and almost-uncovered bondage sequences.
 
I don't understand why Jello went out of his way to brag about how he butch the dub on purpose.
Even if you hate the source material, be professional about it.
I had also forgotten about him existing.

In all honesty I don't want a fetish anime, I want something that's over the top awesome and randomly r rated at times like code grass and table kun I guess.

Dude, its Toei. They're quite willing to butcher their own stuff for retarded reasons (Dbz Kai, intentionally giving Shout Factory edited versions of Super Sentai that were made with epileptics in mind, etc).

I could easily imagine them signing off and saying "yeah, looks legit."

Okay I have to know, what did they do to Pursuit of Harimao's Treasure and Kyatto Ninden? I watched both and didn't see anything egregiously wrong but then, I'm not an expert.
