A) He's Japanese, so he has no country to run to that wouldn't deport him, because fuck him. B) He does not have Carlos Ghosn's resources to even attempt something like that.

It's an adorable romance and I wonder if it will develop to the logical conclusion over the remaining years of the journey.

It also reminds me of a very similar plot point of the Sword Isekai, where the girl meets an elf adventurer who raised her parents in an orphanage before they graduated, had her and died during their adventure.
