One thing that's kinda annoyed me about the more recent fate entries is a feel like there was something about it that worked better when it was just a secret small scale conflict in FSN in what was basically the backwater or the mage world and the grail was just some half baked scheme 3 reject families cooked up to get to the root (hence why lore wise, 3 classes of servants should be far better then the rest).
This is why Lord el melloi II case files is my favourite Fate spinoff. Because it mostly just revolves around smaller scale magical crime solving and asshole mage politics it resembles what drew me to Tsukihime and Fate way more than the weird magic computer shit in Fate/extra or pretty much everything about Fate/grand order.

Here's a hot take that might raise many eyebrows.
Nasu has written some of the best modern fantasy (genre, not fantasy in our current time/age) period, and I have no idea why no one else has even come close. Tsukihime, Stay Night, and Kara no Kyoukai all feel like legitimate fairy tales. They're wistful and dark in a way I can't really describe. Even if they're overly edgy and juvenile at times.

I'd argue we're at a point that if strange fake actually gets a anime, planet destroying noble phantasms being used against each other will probably seem like a return to form compared to the multiple end of the world and multiverse events in grand order.
Tbf, that escalation was the same in the VN. With Stay Night being local, UBW being personal and HF being an incoming catastrophe. Tsukihime was the opposite with the start being world affecting dangers and then the Other Side was hero's fucked up family.

I had to drop that show. The cases felt so lacklustre, the characters were dime-a-dozen. There is an uncountable number of anime/manga with the 'magical/paranormal detectives' premise - nothing other than its attachment to the 'Fate' franchise made El Melloi stand out.

I'm a retard who can't seed.
My condolences.

Takashi from Highschool of the Dead is the anime protag we need but don't deserve.
That show made for some nice memes and abridged series, but that's about it.

Anyone have any recommendations? I typically have to shift through like 100 isekai because no search engines have a way to filter out shit and no one labels isekai as isekai. I fucking hate isekai.
You're just begging to be spoonfed trash. Do some research, livechart.me, MAL etc. are a good start. Whatever is based on a light/web novel or a game = 95% chance it's garbo. Back in the day people looked for anime blogs and read episode reviews to check whether something is worth picking up.

Bride of the Ancient Magus is the only show I've seen that scratches the same itch as Spice and Wolf, a relatively slow-paced fantasy romance-drama with a well developed, thoroughly European setting. You may like it.
This show is bait for insecure girls who want parental-figure lovers. I only recommend the OVA.

Sunrise's announced it's next mecha series in development. But it isn't a new Gundam or a original IP again.
Its fucking Macross.
Will it be about AI music this time, like Macross Plus?

A question I wondered after being reminded of Macross Frontier - was there a idol duo movement in Japan? Like Macross Frontier and Ar Tonelico did the idea of two idols of conflicting personality, but the concept disappeared the last decade afterwards.
The only one I can think of is Carole & Tuesday.

I like Magus bride but it helps that I'm into urban fantasy to begin with. It strikes a nice balance between comfy magical slice of life and existential dread with body horror. I wasn't sure about the magic school arc at first but now it's hitting those asshole mage politics vibes that remind me of Fate so it's grown on me.

NGL I was a bit disappointed the anime only covered one of the actual cases from the novels and the first 6 or 7 episodes was anime original content (correct me I'm wrong but they only really covered books 4 and 5 out of a 10 book series) since I do like some of the later cases specifically the atlas contract since I kinda like Fate's version of Kay which is surprising because I can name a good handful of figures imo they completely butcher.

I probably should get around to HF eventually but from what I've heard and spoilers I've seen the threat in that route while catastrophic wasn't world ending and probably would of destroyed fuyuki again, probably way more then Kiri did. But beyond that you get into the weeds of powerleveling fights and whether magic is stronger then magecraft, who can kill servants, etc.

I'm still continuing watching idol anime, and I have to say that even though I'm three episodes in, Idolmaster: Xenoglossia is very enjoyable. It reminds me of Strike Witches.

If anything, it's going to be interesting to see what Cinderella Girls will look like in comparison, even though after this, I'm re-watching the Love Live! series from the beginning.

This is apparently trending as of this post. I wonder why?

Yeah, when I said I liked case files I probably should've clarified that I also read the fan translation of the light novel chapters that were skipped and not only the anime.
I know I'll get laughed at for this, I'm really enjoying Otaku Elf.
Aside from it being comfy I was pleasantly surprised at all the trivia about the edo period. I doubt I'll retain most of it over time but it's interesting to learn about.

At least this is the part where I think Edomae Elf, Elda, is better than Umaru or much more tolerable than Umaru. And well, a bit of food.
