Has anyone else here been reading the Shin Kamen Rider: Shocker Side manga? I've been enjoying it quite a bit so far. It's the prequel to Hideaki Anno's Shin Kamen Rider movie, so there are lots of similar themes and styles to Evangelion. If you liked Evangelion, I suggest taking a look at this manga.

I know it's just a battle anime, but in Jigokuraku the plot hook of "only one person can avoid the death sentence" is such a fucking stupid thing. It doesn't just means no one will cooperate on the mission, but also that the convicts are very likely to kill one another and the winner has a lot more reason to eat the immortality fruit themselves since it's better to be immortal and run away to another country than be almost certainly double crossed by the shogunate.

Knowing anime plotlines there will probably be a justification that X number of people need to be sacrificed for the fruit to be spawned, but it's still retarded.

I feel like that's specifically why they made the executioners go along with them, to keep the winner from just taking the fruit. That being said I do think the premise makes the shogunate seem like a bunch of idiots cause while some of these prisoners could still be reasoned with it's not like they would actually want the giant man-eating retard to walk free again.

Maybe if those executioners weren't complete shit then it would have made sense, but so far none of them is stronger than the prisoners they escort. It's always annoying to have a setting where some characters are flat out unrealistic power levels yet only some factions have access to them.

Imagine being a girl who's so obsessed with yaoi that she convinces herself she's a transboy, she does the whole coming out thing, the binders, the drama, the haircut, the outfits, the fake penis down the pants, the hormone treatments. She demands people call her he/him/Gayden, she's got handmaidens validating her every fart.
(...)
It's like the saddest gay love story ever told and I feel like such an asshole laughing about it while I'm typing this.
This happens a lot in fujo fandoms. I used to volunteer for a filk performer and saw many such couples (minus fake penis and hormones, cos I'm Russian). Whenever a new trend rolled into town, they'd rush to restyle themselves after the new pairings and have e-slapfights over who should be acknowledged as the true incarnation of a character and who's a loser poser ("You can't be Sherlock, I'm Sherlock!" "I was Sherlock before you!" "You don't even know English!" "Oh my, a bilingual, I'm sure your 11 followers are very impressed.").

You couldn't just go and get fucked by a normal guy like a normal girl you had to do all of this to end up face to face with a vagina you're not even into. WOW, Gayden, wow! Good job!
They're not "not into" the vagina anymore. Like with "prison gay" male troons and other fetishists, the normal sexual drive gets overshadowed by the fetish. She wants to live out her fantasy of larping as one animu boi getting fucked by another animu boi; the partner must (1) play along, (2) not laugh at her, (3) be sufficiently pleasant to be around. For cultural reasons, another fujo is much more likely to meet these criteria than a man. So as far as Gayden is concerned, she's getting the next best thing to actually living in anime reality and fucking the real Naruto (or whatever the kool kidz are into these days).

I read the collection of Tatsuki Fujimoto one shots before Chainsaw Man, and they were a really interesting read to see how Fujimoto became a better artist over time, and how some of them have things that appear in Fire Punch and Chainsaw Man respectively.

2003 is better at the start, but where it diverges it gets some shit that’s retarded. Shou Tucker is alright for a bit, but he outstays his welcome. The False Prophet shit with Rose took up a lot of time when here whole thing was a way for Ed to tip his fedora (in spite of Al being proof that souls and God existing).
They develop a lot of characters better and you grow to like them more, mainly with Mustang and Hughes.
I think what really made me cringe about the 2003 anime is the concept of how the homunculus is like people who were brought back from death and named after the fuckin' 7 Deadly Sins. Yet barely any of them show those sins (aside from Envy, Gluttony), Lust, Greed, Wrath, Sloth, and Pride (aka Wrath) sure as fuck don't, in fact, Lust acts normally because she's
Elric's mother and stuff
and that's not getting into this dumb concept of how you can paralyze or perma kill the homunculus by destroying an object from their previous life. Seriously, how is that shit supposed to work and why are we applying mechanics like they're ghosts?

Lust (you mixed her up with Sloth btw) represents the sin of Scar's brother, her former lover. Her own personal lust is in regards to wanting to understand where she came from and what will happen to her when she dies. She's not meant to be a stereotypical seductress like her mangahood counterpart.

Greed outright says he wants everything - money, women, power, immortality. The last one is the whole reason he kidnaps Al and tries to understand his secret. The irony with him is that, in the end, he really just wants to die; hence why he lets Ed kill him after going to Dante's and being weakened.

Wrath hates Izumi for not being able to give birth to him and tries to kill her as a result. He also loathes Ed for having a real human body and wants the rest of it, not just his arm and leg. Likewise, Izumi is mad at herself for not being strong enough to give birth (as Sig even says) and for having her son taken away from her.

Sloth represents both her own apathy towards her past life and Ed's sin of trying to resurrect Trisha. The whole reason she eventually goes after the brothers is because she wants to forget about the memories that keep haunting her. She's not meant to embody physical laziness.

Finally, Pride is the Fuhrer: an extremely powerful and respectful position in the military. He's also the only homunculus Dante created that can age, showcasing her own pride in him, and acts as her second-in-command.
Tldr: It's not so much about how the 2003 homunculi act, it's what they represent. They're not meant to be as blatant as the manga homunculi.

I'm not sure what you don't understand about the homunculi's human remains being their weaknesses. Those don't get destroyed, they're the kryptonite. And the homunculi technically are ghosts in a way; they came back wrong and shouldn't exist, hence why they react to their remains the way they do. Wrath is able to kill Lust, for example, because he gets his hands on the locket with her hair in it and then traps her in a transmutation circle while she's paralyzed, causing her to vomit up the red stones and leaving her vulnerable. It's pretty straightforward if you ask me.

I actually liked 03 for those very reasons. The fact that Ed and Al have to confront what is essentially a twisted version of their own mother (someone who they already have lots of mental damage from trying to rebirth once before) was very gripping. Lust having an element of humanity to her, like all the homunculus did from the past lives of their transmutation mediums, made her much more sympathetic in my opinion. Then there's Teacher's fucking dead baby getting reincarnated as wrath!? Really good heart wrenching shit right there. You also have the great Ed vs. Greed fight in which Ed actually kills the motherfucker and has to "deal" with that fact. It had some early 2000s fanfiction edge sure, but that's also a part of what made it so interesting. All the different routes it goes down from the canon story are what make it the more interesting product in my eyes. Add onto that the Shambala movie and you get this really somber alternate universe take on FMA. What's even more interesting is that the original mangaka signed off on the anime changes...
And to this day 03 FMA has the best op.

Are you fo real? The Shambala movie was fucking garbage and that's being nice about it, and frankly, the fact this anime reeks of 2000's fanfiction edge doesn't make it interesting, it makes it the most tripe experience possible from its pretentious BS writing to its whiny Shinji sounding cast.

Been reading a manga called Sanctuary that some anons have said is good. Not gotten far but liking it so far. I talk more about it later

Yuri allows the girls to "stay pure" but it's still rare to be legitimately lesbians rather than a "phase" the women are expected to grow out of. It's the western fans that take those relationships seriously for coomer reasons.
meanwhile nips throw a shitfit when idols even have younger male brothers...
