Stroheim is 2nd best bro behind Speedwagon.

Sages of the anime/manga thread, I need mecha anime suggestions. Prefer UC if you offer the Gundam route and not interested in the Witch From Mercury. Incidentally, anyone know if they are going to finish Hathaway's Flash?
Ideon - One of Tomino's best albeit with some wonky pacing. Ending inspired End of Evangelion.
TTGL - People think this one is overrated but IDGAF, its awesome.
Giant Robo - Love song to old 60s mecha. One of my favorite mecha anime for sure.
Getter Robo - Don't mix this up with Giant Robo. Read the manga (its barely 60 chapters) then watch any of the 3 OVAs, they're all awesome.
Macross Plus - I've never watched any of the series (other than DYRL which is also very good) but I can tell you that it's very good standalone.
Metal Skin Panic MADOX-01 - Fun OVA that you can knock out in less than an hour.
Megazone 23 (Does this one even count?) - Fun OVA that probably inspired the Matrix. The sequels are shit, however.
MD Geist - Norio Wakamoto goes around kicking ass, rejecting hoes, and taking names. Its MD mother fucking Geist.
0083 Stardust Memory - It's Top Gundam, don't get me started on the protagonist and the main heroine.

Space Runaway Ideon (would be a major influence on Evangelion and features aliens and exploration of extraterrestrial planets while retaining Tomino's style of both sides having compelling motives, plus the mech is really cool)
Top wo Nerae Gunbuster (wonderfully animated and has incredibly solid, intelligent sci-fi concepts and worldbuilding that perfectly drive the plot)
GR: Giant Robo, the 2007 version written by Chiaki J. Konaka (explores themes like propaganda and language and takes us across the globe to various locations, showing the global impact of the disasters)
King of Braves GaoGaiGar (beautifully animated, especially its sequel OVA, and highlights the coolness and fun of mecha without being too self-indulgent)
Brave Police J-Decker (a really fun, sweet mecha show with lovable characters and a focus on how sentient mecha interact with civilians and humans)
Giant Gorg (a Spielberg-esque adventure mecha show that has colourful characters and cool mysteries to unravel)
Martian Successor Nadesico (a parody of mecha and space opera that still manages to be a compelling, serious sci-fi series when it needs to. Its parody humour is intelligent and has good in-universe explanations)
Gekiganger III OVA (a parody and loving tribute to super robot shows, especially Getter Robo and Mazinger Z)
Betterman (a weird yet enjoyable mecha show that explores biological and evolutionary sci-fi ideas)
Sakura Wars (steampunk mecha and a rare video game adaptation that's actually good. Its theme song is incredibly catchy. Watch the original OVA, as its 2000 TV adaptation has unnecessary filler)
Zegapain (I can't say I enjoyed this the most, but you may like its exploration of transhumanism and intelligence)
Mobile Police Patlabor (hard sci-fi that shows a highly probable future if we use mechs in everyday life)
Shippuu Iron Leaguer (sentient mecha playing sports -- just watch the 5-episode OVA)
Danguard Ace (Leiji Masumoto's mecha anime -- it contains his classic melancholic and pacifist themes and some space opera elements)
Starship Troopers OVA (the anime adaptation of Robert Heinlein's novel)
IGPX: Immortal Grand Prix (mecha roller derby with racing elements)

I recently watched Tenbatsu Angel Rabbie, and I found it to be quite an enjoyable one-shot short episode. It's a magical girl show that contains significant sci-fi and space elements, which is a really great fusion. The plot, while interesting, was very fast-paced, so I would like to have seen it developed more, but it's fun and interesting for what it is.

I've been re-watching Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and I can't get over how good that manga/series is.
The 3rd quarter in the north drags a bit but otherwise it's a fantastic story.

I saw an article that said Ayakashi Triangle isxlike Ranma 1/2, is it any good?

I don't what it is about tomboys specifically that pisses off wokester troons so much but either way, it's sad that the Twitter loons are up in arms again over petty and idiotic bullshit.
It's just another reminder that gender theory bullshit is nonsense and they hate it.

Some Japanese called it "transsexual-yuri" or TS yuri. What woke calls it....I dunno....

It's a NSFW manga drawn & written by Kentaro Yabuki and it's more reminiscent of To Love Ru Darkness on that regard, with all the perverted stuff. If recurrently seeing bare titties and fanservice situations is not your thing, you better skip it entirely. Suzu (the childhood friend heroine) likes both female & male Matsuri (the MC who wishes to break the genderbent curse) even if the relationship is mainly shown as yuri so far.

Ayakashi Triangle also deals the supernatural aspect far more than I recall Ranma 1/2 ever doing.

Thanks, I don't mind that stuff at all if it's not the main focus. The supernatural elements seem cool. Ranma 1/2 definitely had ghosts and magic but that looks more serious, like Bleach,

Probably that's how trans women wish relationships with women would be. But...yew know.
Imagine being a girl who's so obsessed with yaoi that she convinces herself she's a transboy, she does the whole coming out thing, the binders, the drama, the haircut, the outfits, the fake penis down the pants, the hormone treatments. She demands people call her he/him/Gayden, she's got handmaidens validating her every fart.

And. She can't find a boyfriend.

Eventually she gets so lonely, or maybe she gets caught up in the whirlwind of 'trans men are men' and she ends up with another kawaii little trans boy.

And then they take off their clothes, and there are two vaginas and no dick.

It's like the saddest gay love story ever told and I feel like such an asshole laughing about it while I'm typing this. These people literally create their own hell here on earth. You couldn't just go and get fucked by a normal guy like a normal girl you had to do all of this to end up face to face with a vagina you're not even into. WOW, Gayden, wow! Good job!

I need help with something. I sold my ADV Nadia sets a few years ago because of financial issues.

I know GKIDS rereleased the show on bluray but a bunch of people said they are sticking with their old sets. Something about DNR?

So if anyone can assist me in figuring it out.....is it worth it? The new set? Its pretty good price

Not sure if anybody is watching it but Magical Destroyers would've been way better if it were made like 20 years ago. For now (I've only seen the first EP), its okay. Also the OP shows that they could do the cel animation style and choose not to, which pisses me off.

I've seen all the episodes that have come out so far. I think this show has the potential to go somewhere, and it wants to be something good, but so far it's not really going anywhere. Magical Destroyers suffers from the same problem as the FLCL sequels in that it's trying to be like Panty and Stocking and Excel Saga (though it's also trying to do its own thing, which is good), but it lacks those shows' soul and wit, so it's just going through the motions. The show can also get a bit pedantic at times -- though maybe those are just Japanese cultural references flying over my head -- and it can crumble under the weight of its own ambition. The animation is okay, but as you said it could have been a lot better if they used the cel animation style.

I'll wait to see how this develops, and this could end up being really good, but so far, this show feels like it's not living up to its potential.

Pretty much, liked the conflict of oldfags and newfags otakus in the latest episode but the whole Anti Otaku War and Magical Girls are barely a factor in it.

Actually never mind, it's the translators trooning the girl out. I stand corrected.
I don't see how you can blame the trooing aspect on the troonlators. The girl being a FTM (and the Boy being a MTF) seems like the intent of the author of Sakura-Chan to Amane-Kun.

Times like this makes me wonder why Japs really gravitate towards Yuri of all genres when it comes to anything not vanilla.

Kind if weird, but from what I hear bl tends to go the live action drama route. You'd think it'd be backwards.

There was also a romcom about a woman who wrote an essay about how homoerotic Baki is.

Funny how my first post here was to announce the great hayao miyazaki coming out of retirement because he didn't want girls und panzer to be the last thing on his mind before he departed to the beyond. But having actually seen the series now?

Color me impressed, doubly so given yours truly isn't a regular pervauor of anime. The tank history and attention to detail is spot on. Plus where else will you find a character named for the general of the German army in ww2 and into everything about said army in a work from the west? Not in this day and age.

There's a nerd media podcast I listen to that had a recent FLCL episode and they talked about how the original had something that the sequels lacked because Gainax at the time was essentially a bunch of nerds experimenting with stuff they thought was cool and anime studios these days don't work like that anymore. While I'm still watching plenty of modern anime that I enjoy, at the same time I do understand the "They don't make em like this anymore" mindset better now.
