Man what a great chapter, Merus was really cool character, I really like this arc
 
I don't really get the point of the prologue in Oshi No Ko if the characters might as well have been just general perfect anime protagonists they are regardless. Still pretty solid first real episode about the horror of idol industry, wonder if they go balls deep with the parts that are outright sexually exploitative, especially with Japan somehow letting 14 year olds be idols (wtf?).

With OnK (or as I call it, Oink), this season will mostly won't be bad. It's what comes after that might be retarded.

Konosuba really is peak comfy rn. It's been a long time since I saw a school anime this kino, with elements of peak comf.

I don't know about this Canada Isekai despite watching 4 isekais this season (technically 5 with the Dr. Stone's Native Isekai element), Otaku Elf is on my list to watch. I've heard Hero is Dead is pretty good, alongside Skip to Loafer.

Terrible retarded. The first 50 chapters which this season might adapt will be pretty good. It's what comes after which'll go full retard. This also happens to Aka Akasaka's other series Kaguya-sama.

Apparently from the Ice Kaguya arc onwards, it actually scares me to even watch the film (which is technically 4 more episodes of the show). You almost start understanding why Aka Akasaka (the mangaka) is sometimes (mainly by 4channers) are called names like "Hacka" or "Hackasaka" when you get further into the story.

Well that sucks to hear. I’d been really enjoying the anime - just watched the ‘movie’ a few days ago. I didn’t even think there was much left to go in the manga, seeing as most romance series end the moment the main couple get together and the only thing left to resolve was Ishigami’s story.

2 things:

There will be some things happening in the future that might be good. However, Iceguya is considered to be the beginning of the end for the goodness of this manga (same with Oshi no Ko, but a bit quicker). See, around the time of Iceguya, Aka basically got divorced (you almost understand why the more you get into it) & led to having some retarded takes on romance, which Kaguya herself was used as a soapbox for. The arc is very divisive among fans (not fanboys, fans), but you can tell some issues with it, even if some are solved when it ends (the weekly chore of a wait readers felt is less annoying, if you just binge read it). Maybe the movie fixed this arc a bit, cause I did hear they shed some of the cringe of the Ishigami arc like some of the bullshit from Tsubame's party. A-1 Pictures enhance the series in the anime a bit.

Ishigami's upcoming story, if I'm not confused with something else (didn't see the movie yet) is considered to be one of the worst parts of this manga (alongside the Helicopter Rescue, Hayasaka Arc, many other issues). This is one of the rare cases where the anime taking it's own route would be better than whatever the fuck the original source does. Hell, even cutting content would actually be a pro in this just cause how much of his. The best way I can explain this is if you're into Mushoku Tensei. Imagine the Rudy & Eris thing, where she left him at the end., Except way, WAY worse. I can spoil you if you want.

That’s a real shame. The previous character spotlight arcs - including Ice Kaguya, which I was initially put off by for walking back the main relationship - have always left me with a greater appreciation for the characters. I’ve always wanted Fujiwara to get some love, seeing as she’s one of the first characters we meet but is still relegated to comic relief, but now I’m not so sure. Your post has reminded me of some outrage on /a/ regarding something she says in the manga, and I’m not keen to find out what it was.

That’s unfortunate. Would you say it’s still worth checking out when the next season airs, or does it sour the whole experience?

I only recently found out that Akasaka had also written Oshi no Ko. I had initially written off the show entirely after reading the absurd synopsis, but the intense praise it has been receiving coupled with my enjoyment of Kaguya was starting to change my mind. Maybe it’s best that I don’t get invested.

The thing with Ice Kaguya arc is that it was a chore to go through in the manga, due to it being weekly at the time it came out. In fact, half of the annoyance mainly came from weekly releases, especially when it was right after the confession as a high point. but when you re-read it in one go, like binge reading it doesn't feel AS bad (it still has story issues of it's own). I've heard the movie made Iceguya a lot better (alongside bits of Ishigami arc), but I've yet to see it myself.

As for that /a/ outrage, it was about some feminist bullshit when Fujiwara said some shit about women empowerment, which might be just Aka's autism. But it was just a single manga panel, not even a page but a panel, it's nothing too retarded even if it feels like it's there for shock value. The actual issue Chika faces in the series later (& it's not mainly a story spoiler) is that she's just a mascot character & nothing else. She's not really much of a character later on, but just a mascot of the series.

I'd say you should check it out if you wanna see it to the end. Maybe you'll have a different opinion of your own from your experience. If not, then just take the S3 finale or the movie as the true endings & forget it ever continues. Unless A-1 Pictures makes anime original shit, the 2nd half of this series will turn into rarely funny slop with unnecessary drama, showcasing how Aka didn't knew how to end the series.

Oshi no Ko starts really good, but shows how Aka doesn't know how to continue stories, end stories, or have any contingency plans if shit goes wrong (it did, & he basically pussied out). It already showed with Kaguya-sama, it shows in OnK too.

Again, S1 of OnK would be pretty good. It's what comes later which'll be weird.

haven't watched the movie yet, but afaik the anime already cut parts out (the whole thing with kaguya's brother, unless that was part of later arcs) and paced it so it ends with the confession - that's usually where most romance stories become boring anyway since the anxiety of will they/won't they is gone.
the movie just feels like banking on the popularity (especially given how fast it released) wrapping up some loose ends without shitting on everything retroactively.

since the issues (and reaction) of the source are known by now I wouldn't be surprised if A1 is aware of it and tries to steer around it, but otoh it never stopped studios in the past so who knows if they'll do 4th season eventually for the money...
