I watched GATE for the first time recently, little over a week ago, and as a military buff, I have to say, I'm impressed with the use of tactics and the accurate portrayal of weebery among the ranks. The fight with the Flame Dragon was very impressive, in animation, writing, and the use of combined arms and the accurate portrayal of the weapons such as the Panzerfaust 3. It's a shame that we aren't getting any more, because I fell in love with the characters, the world, everything. If I had to knock something against it, it's the underuse of magic, which could have leveled the playing field.

IIRC, Bocchi in the manga has big bocchis too, they are hidden by her jumpsuit. It's shown on a beach chapter or something.
It was in the maid cafe chapter, which is why the Japanese are so mad that the anime drew her as slightly below average. Ryou in the manga also has a surprisingly large rack that also got severely nerfed in the anime (along with removing her maid costume entirely).

I think the fan outrage, while kinda cringe, is justified in this case, because apparently the artist decided to crap all over the mangaka's original character designs because he liked lolis or something. Regardless of whether it's for a stupid, horny reason, if you're adapting, you need to respect the original creator's vision.

The manga is ongoing, you should check it out.

That was a criticism against it, it looked like it was to make the JSDF look more overpowered when they could have spells against guns which I beleve if well written could have worked. Of course our friends at ANN all say it was promoting "right wing adjacent" militarism and facism or some shit.

Sorry to /r/ but does anyone have soul-crushing tragic manga? When I went looking for this online every corner recommended me Punpun and I read it and felt it was overrated. I read Flowers of Evil (better than Punpun) need something that will make me miserable for days after finishing it. Read other Shuzo Oshimi stuff already. I really liked Kasane.

I've heard that as well, and while you might be able to draw the vaguest parallels with how Japan rolfstomped the Chinese early on, it is very minor, and honestly, I don't care. It was written by a military man that actually served his country, a little bit of nationalistic pride is to be expected. And the anime never really went deeper than "the JSDF is badass", so if that's all it took to set off the pussies at ANN, that's just sad. I'm just glad Japan has moved on somewhat and is able to make some cool war shows.

Check out also Japan Summons in which all of Japan is isekai'd which also involves the JSDF and Bocchi Jieikan no Isekai Funsenki, which is about one JSDF officer reincarnated to another world.

Both of those sound quite fun, I'll make sure to check them out over the weekend.

One day, one season, I'll see the announcement that an Apothecary Diaries anime is being made and celebrate.
That is not happening this winter.

Anyone seen Witchblade (2006)?

Terrible art, completely nonsensical story with constant irrelevant tangents into subplots that have no impact on the main plot, and a superhero MC that refuses to use her powers while spending approx. 20 of the 24 episodes getting her ass kicked over and over. I watched every single episode hoping there would be a point where the main character redeems herself but it only gets worse as time goes on. There's little victories here and there but the entire show seems to center around making this woman out to be totally incompetent. It's not a funny show either and it takes itself extremely seriously despite the completely absurd situations playing out. Each episode is guaranteed to make you say, "Dude, what?" at least once. At first it might seem like a vehicle to deliver fan service, but it fails on that front also.

I'm actually not sure how to describe it. It's one step beyond "so bad it's good." It feels like an experiment gone completely wrong.

Felt it was appropriate to watch for 2019's Women's History Month. :story: I enjoyed it tbh, but it's not a smart series by any chance. A lot of comic book adaptations are like that, and I wonder if it's because the anime for whatever reason couldn't go all-out with the cheesecake.

THE MOON, eden and Bokurano.

And if you like spider-man or capeshit, read the ikegami manga too, this makes peter parker looks like a lucky guy, nothing good happens: the series.

All sci fi related but jesus fucking shit, it is suffering time

So what ate you guys picking up next season?
Probably gonna be
NieR
Tomo-chan
Niggertoro
Ayakashi Triangle (even if the troons might latch on to it)
Probably Tomo-chan and Niggertoro. I love Rom Com animes. And Tomboy anime girls. Also Vinland Saga S2. I finished Season 1 on Netflix and loved it.
Would love for bluray releases of

Joran
Akiba Maid War
Lycoris Recoil
Spy x Family
Im waiting on multiple blu ray releases. I need My Dress Up Darling and Love After World Domination on blu ray.

There's also a older manga called Aozakura some anon started translating that's about life at one of the JSDFs military academies but iirc they've only got 2 chapters in so might want to wait a bit before trying it, or if some rumors are true wait to pirate it since they have been rumors that viz is trying to pull a second managaplus for Shogakukan/the Shonen Sunday magazine so a lot of untranslated and dropped manga might suddenly get picked up.

Music of Marie is a pretty hard read. Short too.

Anyone got any good manga recommendations? I'm basically waiting for Dungeon Meshi to end.
Magus of The Library and Touge Oni are great monthly fantasies.
Solte the Traveler, Choujin X, and Yomi no Tsugai are new works by returning authors, been pretty interesting so far.
