I read this thing last night. I read all 13 chapters in the span of a few hours and Oh boy, what a ride that was...

I really recommend y'all read it, I can't really say much about it without spoiling anything. I had the story semi-spoiled before going into it and I still really enjoyed it, but I digress. although just as a heads up, the story is very sad and rather disturbing at times, so if you're easily TRIGGERED then you may want to be a little careful while reading it.

Any love for slice of life stuff among you guys? I like chill shit.
Slice of life is great when it's well done.
If you haven't already, I recommend to read Yokohama Kaidashi Kiko. It's about a very human-ish robot who holds a coffee shop in a declining Earth (water levels rose everywhere, people got fewer and life harder). It has some of the best characters I've seen, and mixes fantastical with mundane (very mundane, some chapters are just the protag drinking a tea or going to bed) in a very interesting way.

Umaru. It's just so sweet and cute, plus it doesn't have a creepy incest angle. I haven't checked out the anime, but the theme song is one of those that puts a smile on my face.

The Bokuhero anime's shaping up to be great, though I wonder with what pace they'll be adapting seeing how
they're splitting the first manga chapter into two episodes, from the looks of it. Then again, the first chapter did have a whole lot more content...

I checked out the Ace Attorney anime. I really loved how the show and movie were both able to incorporate the game's mechanics of gathering/analyzing evidence right in the courtroom so well. Makes it a lot funnier too.

Also seeing how it's even more obvious than in the games that the setting is Japan, it just makes me think how ridiculous and meta the English dub will be (if there ever is one). I especially want an English version for glorious Dick Gumshoe.

I want to recommend a manga I absolutely adore but is criminally underrated and unknown. It's called Dolls, also known as Plant Dolls, by Yumiko Kawahara. It's very similar to Petshop of Horrors, so definitely check it out if you enjoyed that series!

It’s only four volumes long; however, each chapter is a stand-alone story based around Plant Dolls; beautiful living dolls that only drink milk three times a day and are ridiculously expensive. The dolls choose their owners, and desperately need their owners’ love. The stories often contain morals and have a fairy-tale/fable like quality to them. They range from creepy and gothic to heartwarming and sweet; unsettling and thoughtful to funny and lighthearted. The main focus is not only the dolls, but how they affect their owners, for better or for worse. The art is stunning and intricate and the entire manga feels like you’re reading a book of fables! It’s one of my favorites and I own all four volumes, which I've reread over and over.

The series can be read in full here, and all four volumes can be found on Amazon for ridiculously cheap. The stories can be read in any order, so here are my three favorites to get you started:
  • The Blue Doll is about a man who finds an abandoned Plant Doll and slowly begins to form a strong bond with her, born from the fact that they have both been abandoned at some point.
  • The Role of an Angel is about a stuck-up model whose husband has just left her for her best friend. After an encounter at the Plant Doll shop she forms a connection with one of them and takes it home. She works harder and becomes a much better, happier person because of the doll.
  • Dreams of Flying High in the Sky centers around a novelist who is in love with his editor. He ends up buying a Plant Doll to impress her. Unfortunately, his editor leaves to get married and he is left to take care of the doll on his own. The problem is that the doll doesn’t respond to him at all. In trying to connect with the Plant Doll, he comes to terms with his own feelings about his unrequited love.

Diamond Is Not Crash is off to a really excellent start. I've warmed up to the new Josuke and Koichi VAs faster than I thought I would, and the art is just gorgeous.
My only complaint is that I prefer the crazy colors not used all the time like in Part 3.

Minami-ke was pretty fun although the latter seasons aren't as strong as the first. Genshiken's good too if you don't mind it being about otaku culture.

Hey people. I started watching neon genesis evangelion quite a while ago but lost interest and stopped. I want to try again but need advice on what the best/most complete DVD release is. Same for the movies. Also, watching order that makes the most sense? Thank you all.
The one with the silver box is the one I have, but I heard a few months ago that they were releasing a Blu-ray set soonish.

The third season/arc of Sailor Moon Crystal debuted today. After the colossal failures that were the first two seasons, Toei finally got their shit together and completely redesigned the characters and animation. For the most part, it looks a hell of a lot better. They still can't do profile shots though.

First episode was pretty standard. My biggest complaint so far is that the new opening is way too boring and moe. The ending, on the other hand, is both beautiful and gay as hell. Since the SM fandom loves their space lesbians, the portrayal of Uranus and Neptune is what they're pleased with the most.

Started watching Katekyo Hitman Reborn with a friend and Jesus Christ this is thus far a super marginal shonen. If you for whatever reason pick it up be wary that it doesn't break from the villain/gag-of-the-week format until like 20-something episodes in and even then the show does the absolute bare minimum for the animation with recycled animation running rampant. Even the initial designs are uninspired, Tsuna is pretty much Shinji if you gave his hair a retarded shape.

That being said, there are things I'm enjoying about it. Fights are decently entertaining thus far, when the animation decides to stop being 4/10 it can actually look pretty good for a 2006 anime, the music is swanky, and the characters can be fairly likable. I'm a sucker for really cute mascot characters so naturally Lambo is one of my favorites.

Oh, and it has an unbelievably racist Chinese caricature as part of the recurring cast. Her name is E-Pin and she speaks broken Japanese, requires huge glasses in order to read because of her squint eyes, and fights with a style that pretty much involves her smelling disgusting. When she was introduced I was actually really blown away at just how terrible the author is for making a character like this.

The new season of Sailor Moon Crystal aired yesterday and so far the animation has vastly improved. The transformations in particular are utterly gorgeous and much better than the CGI versions present in the first two seasons.

Can't wait to see the Outer Senshi transformations! Fingers crossed that Sailor Saturn finally gets her long-awaited transformation; she was the only character who didn't get one in the original anime..
