To be fair, it'll most likely be an adaptation of the novel separate from Kon's vision. It's like getting mad at a live-action Perfect Blue: Complete Metamorphosis adaptation.
Haven't heard of this but the only one that's really original is Millennium Actress, the others are adaptations of novels or just a retelling of an older film, just with a Satoshi Kon twist.
I'm willing to give Amazon the benefit of the doubt given they're referencing the book directly, but if they prove to be taking much more influence from Kon's vision instead of the book itself, it's a sign they didn't give a damn about Kon because he's been dead for 12 years, so he can't speak out for himself, and we're just never getting The Dream Machine at this rate.

This will be about as entertaining as The Black Swan with Natalie Portman, which the director Darren Aronofsky basically borrowed elements of Perfect Blue to make that movie.

I'm actually kinda perplexed by this. While Kon was critically lauded, he was never particularly successful at the box office domestically or overseas. So it's not like this is some sort of cash grab remake of a popular IP (like the Your Name live action film that is probably never going to be made at this point).
It's really only something film buffs and anime fans would care about, and that crowd is far too wary of live action adaptations, especially American ones. So maybe it's some sort of passion project, an alternate take on the novel Kon's film was based on. Or maybe it's not and this is going to take a massive shit on Kon's last theatrical film.
I'm not at all familiar with Cathy Yan's work. I haven't seen Dead Pigs and I have absolutely zero interest in Birds of Prey. Maybe she's a good director? At the very least I will give enough benefit of the doubt to watch the trailer. Like with everything else, I will at least hope that it's good.

And Inception borrowed elements from Paprika. I'm sure they'll do the usual "We love the original! And want to pay homage... but we'll update it for modern audiences/sensibilities" etc.

She was the director behind Birds of Prey? This is going to be an even bigger disaster than Cowboy Bebop.

It's pretty racist giving it to a chink purely because it's an Asian based story. Anyways as long as it melts in the box office and doesn't replace the original work I don't care anymore.

Maybe this is a controversial opinion, but I really feel like Speed Racer is the best American live action anime adaptation. It's appropriately campy and honestly does some interesting stuff in terms of translating the visual quirks of anime into a live action setting.
Plus it helps that it is adapting something that most Americans just know as a cheap Saturday morning cartoon from the 1960s. It wouldn't exactly make a lot of people mad if the movie ended up sucking.
Granted, this isn't a particularly high bar given the competition is shit like Dragon Ball Evolution and fucking Death Note. If anything, the better adaptations are the ones where most people don't know it's an adaptation like Edge of Tomorrow or Alita: Battle Angel (Spike Lee's Oldboy not withstanding, and it's more of an adaptation of the Korean film rather than the manga itself).

As well as going on hiatus again It seems like Iwaaki might be cutting Historie short due to age so a lot of the historical events surrounding Alexander the Great and Eumenes are never going to be covered.
I was kinda expecting this for years given the release schedule (its been running longer then Alexander's rein as king of Macedonia) but this is still a major let down, especially if your familiar with this era in history.
