A shame, they were at it since 1987.
And it was almost by complete accident.
Rightstuf started as a shell company so the owner could buy telescopes for him and some of his friends at a discount and only got into anime because he tried to find a VHS of Astro Boy, discovered no one did, so decided to license the series himself which led to other series that aired around that time and eventually newer shows.

interspecies reviewers is more entertaining in the first episode than the entirety of aquatope on white sand
The second half of Auqatope was a waste. But it was hilarious seeing the fujoshi and troons on /a/ fall for the yuri bait that wasn't there.
Edit: it has started effecting things since they already announced they will discontinue right stuf's 18+ catalog and move it off site (i.e anything under critical mass) and apparently CR is looking at some rights issues with the dirty pair kickstarter they where working on
From their email, it seems that EroAnimeStore will be their subsidiary company, which is confusing. The FAQ on the site mentions that they've worked for Right Stuf. I'm guessing it's similar to when Disney purchased Miramax and Dimension films in the 90s. The notification they've sent explaining the process for those that have already purchased 18+ content is confusing and orders will be delayed.

It's kind of funny to watch /a/nons get triggered by the bromance in Yakuza's guide to babysitting cause they started watching for the little girl.
I'm guessing it was episode 4 that set them off. Even the anime gave them a disclaimer that it would focus on the yakuza bros. You'd think they'd be drooling over the bad boys, but I guess not.

I watched the first episode and dropped it since it wasn't very funny. I just want something like Hinamatsuri....

Well CR owns another part of the western anime industry.
I thought rightstuf was a decent online distributor so this kind of sucks. Plus iirc they owned 4 different licensing companies so that might also put them under CRs control.

Trying to be on Sony’s good side by trying to get rid of fan service that don’t have the erotica tag, while forcing more dubbed anime projects that will practically change scripts that have nothing to do with the plot of the story.

If I have learned anything from Square Enix+ with their unnecessarily blatant censorship, these corporations have too much power over the average consumer, while not caring for the media they are obtaining.

All they see are money signs, and the process still continues because we learn nothing.

Is this Rightstuf acquisition likely to push back all pre-orders and not just the erotica products moving to the subsidiary site? I've got a Jolyne figure and a volume of Saint Young Men that I pre-ordered back in December 2021 that still hasn't been shipped yet (probably because that specific figure sold out really quick)

Could someone explain to me why people enjoy romcoms? I just don't get it. The characters are usually annoying, the story boring, and the humor even worse. It pains me to even read them and I physically cringe at them most of the time (voice acting makes the bad even worse). I've held the opinion that romcoms are the worst genre in anime and the worst thing to come out of anime in general. What gives? What do people see in it? Am I alone in having furious disgust for the genre?

For there being a lot of uninspired trash, there is the occasional gem with good writing and characters. Typically ones with the couple essentially set from the start are better than those that mire themselves in harem bullshit

Tldr watch Toradora

You need to watch one that actually has the romance develop, I guess. I don't really like the genre myself, but High Score Girl is one of my favorite stories of all time.

It's very much like why people like Friends. They mainly enjoy the characters interacting and the jokes, with the romance part being there to create the illusion of progress.
