I'm actually digging this manga. When you read the first few chapters, you'll start to get this "Naruto" vibe with the main character. However, as you keep going, you'll start to notice subtle differences.

The kid isn't an ignorant dumbass, doesn't rely on "talk no jutsu", and he actually gets fucked up until his tooth fell out.

What marks the clear difference are these pages.

Instead of saying something insensitive like he probably misunderstood the old man's intentions (only a genuine brainlet would misinterpret human trafficking) or any other feel good flowery fucking speech Kishimoto thought up in his mongoloid brain, the kid instead does this.

He understands how fucking messed up what the guy went through that all he can do is tremble in anger and bite his lip until it fucking bled. You gotta start from the first chapter to get it.

On my journey of gently trailing the nebulous memories of my earliest Anime and Manga encounters, i have rediscovered one of the perhaps very earliest works i have any vague recollection of; A Wind Named Amnesia.

A madhouse film of 1990, it thoroughly passes the standard of the 80's post-apocalyptic pseudo-intellectual film with it's somewhat light philosophical focus, attachment to a grander, slightly higher than average animation quality, a continuous journey through the barren urban wastelands, and naturally, a mysteriously sinister fair maiden.

This particular film's plot experience could be described for many as a compressor stall; It begins with quite an intriguing premise that effectively supplies the Arc-engine of the film, propelling the story along, only for this now diminishing initial interest to start throttling the aforementioned's fuel intake as it , eventually causing a flameout right around the Apex of the story.

And yet, while it seems to be a complete disappointment for many, it isn't that for me. The plot fabric has been stitched together in a convoluted manner and is riddled with gaps, but features some occasional beautiful patterns and forms shining on it. I give it a careful, conditional recommendation to the willing on the basis of it being quite an exemplary case of lost potential.

If you look carefully at this eyecatch from The Maid I Hired Recently is Mysterious, it looks like Lilith the maid is haunted by demons... demons from the summer/autumn 2021 anime seasons in ultra chibi form.

I have a super autistic gripe about the direction of the One Punch Man manga. Spoilers for the latest chapter, of course.

The latest chapter with Saitama and Garou fighting shows a little chart to explain how Saitama is growing at a rate faster than Garou... but I hate that concept in it's entirety. Saitama has always been so far above everyone that he was basically just a power wall that couldn't even be seen by anyone else it was so far above. He shouldn't need to or ever grow in power, the fact his stupid method made him untouchable is the joke the series is balanced on. Him gaining power through intense fighting is the trope that is being made fun of with Garou... why is Saitama also experiencing it and just making it generic DBZ shit? Saitamas growth should be purely personal, some may argue that is what happened with Genos' (time travel retconned) death being the catalyst, but that should have just driven him to be fully serious despite it not being necessary. I haven't read the webcomic, but I hope it remained more consistent to the entire point of the character. I told you it'd be autistic.

Nah I thought the same thing. Saitama, the guy whose costume looks like a Buddhist monk, has obviously been some sorta solipsistic gag that it makes no sense to apply "power levels" to even if they apply to everybody else in the setting.
I just kinda mentally handwaved it as his rate of learning or accessing of his own (infinite) power or something, since he normally doesn't get to go balls-out. So it's a smooth curve because it's all relative to Garou's actual growth and nothing else. He's still fighting protectively with a hand behind his back so the proportional reactions make sense.
 
I take it as less Saitama growing and more him finding his normal. Shaking the rust off and getting back into his rhythm, so to speak. Like a retired boxer warming up. It’s the first time in a while he’s done more than just a simple jump or throw or punch.
 
Its not manga but there is/was a TV series by Naoki Urasawa called Manben that was actually a decent way to find series/authors that usually fly under the radar in the west, aside from a few notable ones.

Like I said some are pretty well known in the west but some are fairly niche and I think one or two have never had any of their works translated despite working for years. Plus its always interesting to see how they draw/workflow. I think all put the last 3 have translations but you might have to go digging to find specific episodes. I remember a site that had most of them in one place so I can try to find that again.
 
So, I just watched the fight between Videl and Spopovich from Dragon Ball Z’s Buu Saga and honestly, this may be an unpopular opinion but, I feel like she absolutely deserved that. Kinda her own fault for being a dumb bitch and not giving up after the man she just thought she murdered got up and just unbroke his own neck like it didn’t even happen.

There'e actually some fairly reasonable counter-autism for that. Garou, with his newfound god powers found he still was no match for Saitama so he decided to just use his ability to outright duplicate Saitama's power, because that's apparently a thing he can do now. This in theory lets him use his inexplicable ability for growth to rival Saitama's power, hence him being able to recognize what he thinks is some a limit to it. However, when faced with what should by definition be his limit he simply punches harder than himself. The idea being he's strong enough that he can outright break causality. Which imo is a decently creative new way for Saitama's power to completely break the internal logic of the universe.
At least, I think that's what they were getting at.
Maybe adding nuance is unnecessary but FWIW the webcomic has Garou eat a similar amount of punisment from Saitama with much less justification.

The last chapter (actually last couple of chapters) really had some amazing art work... but yeah story wise was a bit of a let down. A lot of people seem to be defending it as "well it's a gag manga" but hyper speed farts, convenient time travel retcon powers, rage based powerups ... kinda not doing it for me (might just be personal preference though since a lot of people liked it).

Makes me wonder what the story would have been like if they stuck to the original chapter 164.

Speaking of Abyss, I've been watching some of the stuff people recommend to people who can't wait for more.

The Promised Neverland is bad and you shouldn't watch it.
Hyper-derivative dogshit that can't live up to its own stolen premise and never gets better than the first episode. Mostly nothing happens, when something happens it gets undone later, and when things genuinely happen they're fucking retarded.

Shadows House on the other hand seems really interesting so far. And the music could be said to bop. Unique setting/rules and a cool mystery.

Madoka comes up in those threads too, I don't know what the connection is supposed to be though. Maybe the potato head? But so far nothing I've gotten to has actually made sense as a related recommendation so whatever.
I know it has its fans for whatever reason so I'm just gonna say ehhhh

Only kinda sorta. Bean and some other things were recycled into GSC after Riding Bean wasn't continued. Can't really call it the same universe because of the existence of Rally who was originally his blonde sidekick/slam hound.

I remember reading that it got fucked by Dr.Stone since they didn't want two survivalist series competing. They had no back up plan for plot so it floundered. (That being said, Chainsawman and Jujutsu Kaisen got along fine even though they had similiar "fight the manifestation of fear" starts, so who knows)

Iirc the anime was already made to have two seasons so they advertised that the author was involved with writing and that it'd be different from the manga only to rush the shit out of it, cutting a ton and speedrunning the ending which left on a powerpoint montage. It was pretty hilarious.

That still seems odd to me because TPN only shat the bed after Goldy Beacon Pond, until that point it was solid.

That said the strongest part of the series was when they were in the orphanage, and of fucking course the anime skipped Goldy Beacon to go right to where the series turned to shit.

Made In Abyss is one of those things where it's like the Lost Children Arc of Berserk, except the entire manga is that Arc. Tsukushi generally handles shit like rape, human experimentation, and using a child's stillborn wishbabies to feed your followers and then use her to create a civilization for your followers to live in for possible centuries after she is gruesomely modified in order to do so without making shit feel like PunPun or some torture porn series.

Tsukushi's pixiv also is pretty interesting. Bondrewd was basically made when he deep dived into Bloodborne. I have no clue if Tsukushi is a pedo or just someone who's enough of a lonely weirdo willing to make weird shit because he's bored. Supposedly his mother has read his manga and picks out his clothing for events.
