Anyhoo am just curious. I don't think the show is all that special from other shounen battle anime, but it moves fast and it's entertaining enough for me to shrug off the fast pacing. I feel like it might be poking fun of a lot of shounen tropes, though, almost tongue-in-cheek, and I hope that doesn't get stale as it goes on.

Oh, and Diane best girl.
Diane has great character design and I like her personality. Definitely best girl and Gowther best boy. Studio Deen is just inconsistent and overworked. Look at Konosuba. Season 1 looks way different than season 2. As for Sins, It's an entertaining series, but the Prisoners of the Sky movie is not part of the actual storyline.

Has anyone watched the Bastard!! remake yet?

Without entering spoiler territory, why is it people hate the second half of The Seven Deadly Sins so much? My personal guess is it's because DEEN took over from A-1 Pictures, but A-1 is just as much of a garbage studio as DEEN, so I don't think animation quality is going to suffer between seasons outside of a change in art directors. But anime-watchers only care about how an anime looks, so it's possible that's why the later seasons get rated so low.

to be fair the final arc of the manga was pretty hated too,Couple that with deen butchering a hype as fuck fight and you get a recipe for disaster. Also, deen really downgraded the artstyle.

Has anybody been watching the Legend of the Galactic Heroes Remake? I've been wondering if it was any good because the poster for the new season looks pretty fucking good. 1656611481915.png

Wait a minute, there's a remake?
Yeah Production I.G. has been doing a LOGH remake since about 2018 with new designs and everything. I think they're up to the third volume of the novels at this point.

Going to Anime Expo this weekend, and I just found out that they have a fucking mask mandate:

Just any (useless) face covering will do, as opposed to specifying N95s, so you especially know that it's all just theater. I hope that a lot of people will simply disregard the rule once they're inside, similar to sporting events with the mandate, but I have a bad feeling that the horde of volunteer staff will be total Karens about upholding it.

Bypassing those rules actually sounds kind of fun. It's the perfect setting: weeb event, consluts, many people lacking social skills, and lot of tisms. Anyone with a silver tongue can weasel out of the masks I'm sure.

...is it a decent series?
It's not too bad. I like the ship designs and the aesthetics. I think the biggest hurdle for a lot of people is that the new characters are made to conform more to modern bishonen standards than the 80s bishonen look. Most people did get hit hard with the pretty boy stick though. Except Louis Mashengo who is like ten times blacker.

It's a much more trimmed-down series, and I think a lot of the characterization got lost in the process.

True. They can do a lot less with twelve 22 minute episodes than the long OVA format the original had. It's definitely not a replacement for the original series.

Kinda related, but I liked how the new adaptation of Spriggan went for longer, 45 minute + episodes. A shorter season, for sure. But, the stories get a bit more room to breathe instead of one little arc being stretched out over three episodes with the added padding of an opening, ending and recap each time that further cuts down things. It's nice to see some anime that are taking advantage of the longer runtime that streaming allows for.

Not yet, had no idea it was out already. Only now learned that the opening was already uploaded yesterday.

I saw episode 1, getting to the rest gradually.

It's got Castlevania's good art quality and occasional swearing, while also retaining the source material's heavy metal motif down to making the princess wear no underwear and brutal gory ultraviolence. Dark Schneider is a bastard with great voice acting.

After finishing the original series I download a random episode out of curiosity and skipped around it. The space battles look worse because instead of very clear formations it's a ton of effects and explosions that works in action series but not in the more tactical and drama focused narrative.

Watching Macross for the first time. Up to episode 5. Pretty enjoyable so far. Nice looking animation, nice music and I like the idea of an entire city being developed to repair a giant ship. Plus I like the mech designs.
OG Macross is great. The animation does get pretty QUALITY at times. But, there's a reason it's a classic.

Subbed or dubbed?

I'm on the third episode and it's fun so far. Appropriately gory and there's still plenty of titties floppin' around. They even changed back a couple of the names that Viz had changed when they brought the manga over, but I've only got the vaguest recollections of reading it. The new cast mostly does a good job. The new DS voice actor is no Kazuki Yao (But, Yao barely sounds like himself these days since he's a 12 pack a day smoker) but he's growing on me. So far so good. Hopefully all the weirder shit I remember stays in.
