Why remake an already-perfect anime?
I suspect the reason has very little to do with the creators satisfaction and sense of completion towards the series. Instead, I'm quite certain perceived financial success is the primary motivator in the rekindling of the series.

I do wonder if they will move the setting to contemporary times, à la obstacle course swim meet, instead of retaining the original 80's setting.

I'm trying to imagine them trying to capture this energy and I'm not looking forward to it. The father who thinks his daughter's a boy won't be going over well online.
It'll just be those loud idiots that think because a character is a tomboy or raised as a boy means that character is trans. Happened with Dororo, even Hope Chapman as Jacob was saying that. It's best just to ignore the crowds when it comes to that stuff and enjoy the show. Hopefully this new anime series means we'll get the original tv series on blu-ray. There's an english subtited torrent of the Japanese blu-ray available, but I know lots of people would want a physical copy,

Was going to put this in the Weaboos and Japan spergs thread, but I figured that here would be more appropriate:

The recent chapter for the popular Rent-A-Girlfriend manga had our main character imagining the love interest having sex with other clients other than him:

Most of the fans of the series were upset to find out that Kazuya has not progressed past his crush of wanting to be with Chizuru and Chizuru only, and recently the creator Miyajima Reiji had his Twitter account receive critical messages and (possible) threats as to why this chapter is bad for the story so far:

With all that said, I just want to hear what she has to say about this in the story.

See, that's what I was originally thinking about Ryuunosuke (the girl forced to dress up as a boy by her father who wanted a son), that she'd be super controversial, but I've seen the opinion that the character is actually trans-positive and an analogy for how "trans women" actually feel about themselves (that they were always female even if they were brought up as male).

You know a good ending would be all the girls falling in love with other men and moving on with their lives, with kazuya wasting away his life Jerking off to his ntr fantasies.

Another one of these? The creator should take from End of Evangelion and put these threats in the next chapters.

Curious if the new UY will have Mamoru Oshii back in some way, like maybe doing some directing? It was were he got his first big success so I'm kind of wondering if he'd be interested in doing something for it.

I'd love if Mamoru Oshii did return as series director or at least if he'd direct a few episodes but I think he swore off doing any more television series in the 1990s. (What was his last TV series? Was it Patlabor? I honestly don't remember without checking.)

I definitely like Oshii's version of Urusei Yatsura more than the Rumiko Takahashi manga (which I still like but most of the changes for the anime were improvements, especially making Megane a major character). On the other hand, I prefer Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Complex, which Oshii had no involvement in, to either of the Oshii movies but that's a manga and anime in an entirely different genre than Urusei Yatsura.

EDIT: Checking Mamoru Oshii's filmography, Urusei Yatsura was, to date, the last time that Mamoru Oshii served as chief director for an animated TV series, and only for the first 106 episodes. He didn't even direct any TV episodes of Patlabor, which surprised me.

@PS1gamenwatch If you're talking about Patlabor EZY, it was announced at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival in 2017 but, so far, there's been no solid news since then.

NTR seems to be the final form of coomerism.

Cucking might just be the worst fetish in existence, next to being an AGP. Both basically ruin your life completely. I also just hate shit like Rent-A-Girlfriend. 218 chapters of will-they/won't-they of course its going to de-evolve into NTR shit, because you know, there's only so much blue-balling you can do. Hell, even in Love is War the main leads fucked.

I really, really hate that about a lot of anime and its one of the anime tropes/cliches that I'll forever dislike. I know its because shipping makes fucking mad money to leave things as empty as can be, but Jesus fucking christ. God.

I'm more surprised that people were shocked and appalled. Rent-A-Girlfriend was like this from the start, I remember dropping this around the first few chapters when I realised the main characters were only going to keep getting worse.

I'd say it's the worst legal fetish, and the Jack Murphy fiasco really illustrates how it's a clear line of being so obsessed with sex to the point you burned out the amount of enjoyment from anything "acceptable".

To anyone here that follows MHA, I'm gonna sperg about this epiphany I just had today about what can be, in hindsight, the most convoluted reference to Star Wars.

If we're going to take into account Horikoshi's love for Star Wars and just how much he fucking references it, then AFO really could be Izuku's father, and that "Hisashi Midoriya" is simply an alias. This has been a common theory that's been repeated in the MHA community because, when you look closely into certain clues, it's there.

What makes this theory arguably feasible is Izuku having idolized All Might ever since he was a child. Bear with me here, because there are just so many coincidences for this to not be considered viable.

A Quirkless child not only idolizing Toshinori, but with a dedicated (near obsessive) dream of becoming a hero? Inko might even be Nana's daughter since Gran Torino mentioned that she gave up her "children", not child. Making Tomura Izuku's cousin.

It just came to me as an epiphany when I remembered AFO's remark that he always plans far ahead, to the point that any minor setbacks have little to no detriment to him.

He managed to locate Inko with his resources, having fabricated an entire background for himself and courted her. Unless this is a red herring, that's a pretty likely scenario since AFO could easily have donned a face with a shape shifting Quirk and made it seem like breathing fire was his main one. He simply chose Inko in the off chance that he'd get to use her against Nana.

After Izuku was born, and this is another theory that compliments this one, he may have had a Quirk. Whether it was similar to his uncle's or taken by AFO as a precaution, either one could be true, and so, he set the groundwork to enact his plan.

"Get close to the heroes". A post hypnotic suggestion. He exceeded that expectation by becoming Toshinori's protégé from either a twist of good luck or fate.

His love of archiving Quirks might even be part of that programming. An in-depth, encyclopedic knowledge and analysis of abilities, which is; also in hindsight, essential.

If any inkling of this theory is true, AFO might have just created a sleeper agent tailor made to infiltrate heroes and get close to Toshinori, but also someone who could get OFA so that he retrieve it at a penultimate time. Everything else with the League, Tomura, etc. That was all a front to his actual plan.

Izuku.

Izuku is most likely naturally born quirkless, since his “condition” was diagnosed by confirming his lack of an extra toe joint (or whatever it was). Unless removing a quirk also retroactively changes that part of a person’s biology, which seems counterintuitive and stupid but could be how it works.
