The Jungle Book anime reminds me of Kimba The White Lion. One can now only imagine if Walt Disney and Osamu Tezuka teamed up to make movies together.

I can't remember the name of the show but it had the line "from the heart" or "from my heart" in english, but the singer drew out the vowels in "heart" in such a way that it didn't even sound like engrish so much as he was receiving some CBT in the studio
Isn't it pronounced "ha-a-to"? Did they try something weird (like CBT)?

I think Tezuka’s family pointed in the whole Lion King controversy was that the big difference is that Kimba had a human character that speaks to the animals. Imagine if The Lion King had a human character that speaks to them.

Nearing the end of Planetes, I'm really liking it (though I wish it was focused on the job of being space garbage man rather than the big events). The one big issue I have is the social commentary of "space is being monopolized by rich countries".
It's just an empty platitude. It sets an impossible moral goalpost that on its account we should never advance, treats shit countries as dindus who are just harassed by bigger countries (not completely untrue, but the vast majority of the time those countries fuck themselves), and ignores that technological advances always flow back towards everyone. It's also weird since it has multiple characters that reached high position by meritocrisy despite not having a good background.
That's how I also felt about that series. The first half is great but second half that explores the poor vs rich countries and how it affects who progresses in space topped off with the ridiculous terrorist subplot against the Von Braun/Jupiter journey felt like it was written by a totally different author. At least the plot lines are all tied up in the end and the main character weds his romance interest.

The Jungle Book anime is on YouTube in its entirety, via Mondo TV, if any of you actually want to see it. It's genuinely good and has a fine Montreal dub.

I’m worried if that Ranma 1/2 ever gets remade, the usual suspects would try do something about a show about a boy that turns into a girl with cold water then back to a boy with hot water
That's how TurboTeen worked too and he had an actual tranny.

Word has it that one of the crown jewels of the Shōwa era, Urusei Yatsura, is getting a re-adaptation for next year on Fuji TV.

I'm somewhat concerned.
Brought this up to my boyfriend and he thinks that this is due to Yashahime's success. Next to the fact it's now over 40 years old and nostalgia's a bitch, Rumiko probably is playing it smart by allowing reboots of her series to occur for more royalties.

But I just have to ask: Why Urusei Yatsura? That's pretty much been fully adapted, fillers aside, right? Ranma I don't think was fully adapted, was it? Why remake an already-perfect anime?

Has anyone else in this thread seen Blue Gender? Its an old early 2000s anime that Im really nostalgic for, and started rewatching recently. It honestly holds up better than I thought, despite its slow start.

Watched that like a month ago. I liked it a lot, though I do get why folks were disappointed by it after the second half.

Girls und Panzer Das finale 3 is out now. pretty fun stuff, good ending to Chihatan battle, good Pravda vs black forest and jakasota vs Saunders battle. surprise ending.
I agree, I was assuming that they'd pull something where Momo had to be the actual commander in at least one of the episodes, and I'm hoping Shark Team does something useful in this battle since they've been basically sidelined since their introduction.

I also love the White Death reference they're making with the Finnish sniper, and I'm curious what tank she's in. Looking at historical vehicles the Finn's used it's likely to be something like a SU-76 or SU-152. Would be pretty cool if it was a Panzer IV or StuG III though, for the "fighting your own tank" motif.

I hope Shark team at least deals some damage, but its a ww1 tank, not sure how effective it'd really be. I'm kinda bummed we didnt get a school song this ep.

Guess we'll have to wait another year for df4.

I recently watched the Read or Die OVAs and I love this book reading autist like you wouldn't believe. Is the TV series any good or should I not even bother?

The soundtrack is also way better than I expected.

The biggest issue with it being a WWI tank is it's armor, but with the way Garupan has armor jumping between paper mache and depleted uranium as needed for plot I'm not sure that's going to be an issue.

Dual 6-Pounder cannons are nothing to sneeze at regardless of the era, especially when all the tanks shown so far for the Finn's are very light and the majority seemingly are T-26's from the late 1920's.

'R.O.D. the TV' is one of my favorites, I'd definitely suggest watching it if you liked the OVA. That said, Yomiko isn't in the first half much (or at all, iirc) but the other characters more than make up for it. The OP is really fucking good.

I believe you are quite severely underestimating the recent rise in popularity of the series in the past 5 or so years.
I'd still argue UY is incredibly niche. The weebs I know only recognize Rumiko Takahashi cause of inyuyasha and I know one who's seen ranma cause trannies. A new series seems really pointless, a lot of the appeal for me lied in its episode of the week nature and the 80s anime style. It had enough of an identity to where I'd argue you'd enjoy it even if you read the manga already.

I'm trying to imagine them trying to capture this energy and I'm not looking forward to it. The father who thinks his daughter's a boy won't be going over well online.
