Are we sure he's dead because didn't Sugimoto get shot in the head and was presumed dead. Twice. And at least one of those times it was Ogata

Golden Kamuy is a series that relies on Rule of Cool and Rule of Drama. Sugimotos character arc wasn't complete when he got shot in the head but Ogatas character arc was completed when he finally realized that he had fucked up hard killing his family so it makes narative sense that yes Ogata got shot in the head like Sugimoto, but in story terms he is dead while Sugimoto survived getting shot in the head because he still had a part to play in the story. Ogatas brother Yuusaku, an eternal symbol of his guilt, family issues, and messed up philosophy symbolicly drags his brother into the abyss after he has a meltdown and blows his brains out. Ogatas role in the story is over so he dies from a mortal wound while previously he and other characters survived mortal wounds because they still had a part to play in the story.

I've heard speculation that Ogata survived his suicide but will be left permanently blinded which would be a dark fate for him.

The fans who are pissed about this are just obsessed with the guy and think they could change him if he were real and their boyfriend. Plus they insert themselves as Asirpa so her being the one to start his death off probably pissed them off too. There's a lot of fans like that. He's a good character and his death was meaningful and just. That's enough. He doesn't get a "cool" death because he's not a good person, and war doesn't always give you that anyways. Besides it's still an interesting and impactful death. I think it's just like Ogata to kill himself first as a final desperate grasp at redemption, and to make sure HE'S the one who controls his life. So far this final arc is everything I wanted, including the deaths. There was even a bear!

Not sure if anyone knows this, but Tokyo Revengers is the latest to get an omnibus release this upcoming Summer Season:

Seven Seas Entertainment will be licensing this one in print, as it will be the first time that this will be printed in English for North America. Honestly, as far as 2020‘s anime go, this could be the first new age anime/manga that I pick up.

I'm in the USA and saw there's Shakugan no Shana on streaming here and it makes me nostalgic to 15 years ago when everything was battle couple anime.
It was cringy as shit chunbiyu bait but it felt way more sincere than today's isekai anime.

Edit: Also haven't read Golden Kamui (still wondering if to watch the anime or not), but a headshot wound is 100% survivable in fiction when it happens to important characters. Until the body's buried there is no way to tell if someone survived it or not.

After Hijikata's glitchy death-rampage it's not impossible that we get one more scene out of Ogata. He's completed his character arc but having him come out of nowhere to add some more chaos to the final fight could be really fun. Though I would be satisfied if the last we saw of him was his brother pulling him into the abyss.

Crunchyroll just got worse after this because they're going to restrict new anime to only those that are paid subscribers so most of their viewerbase is fucked.

Between this and Netflix fucking over Jojo for binge culture bullshit, it's honestly a really sad yesterday for the western anime communities, especially since both Netflix and Crunchyroll have made Piracy morally good for anime.

Between this and Netflix fucking over Jojo for binge culture bullshit, it's honestly a really sad yesterday for the western anime communities, especially since both Netflix and Crunchyroll have made Piracy morally good for anime.

If I wanted to watch anime, I'd pirate it and even then, I'd have to wait till there is a good enough consensus for me to pirate an entire season's reach.

I know a lot of people who use the free service because it's easier to just watch it on Crunchyroll with ads than trying to find a pirate site and watching it there with ads, except these ads will probably infect your computer instead of just being a mild annoyance. Like, as far as ongoing seasonal anime is concerned, CR free with ads arguably does provide a better experience than pirating if you want to watch the moment it releases, and don't want to deal with sketchy streaming sites. Taking away the ability for "free" users (who they still make money from, cuz ads) to watch new releases isn't going to push them to pay for your service, it's just going to push them to pirate.
