I just now reached the final volume of Oyasumi Punpun and need to go to bed, but dear God, dear God, Tinkle Hoy, I'm dreading the approach to the finish line no thanks to that volume 12 cliffhanger.

Hnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngh.

Anyone else read Tatsuki Fujimoto's recent one off Look Back?
I loved fire punch and chainsaw man but this was just dumb. I'm also pretty certain he has a strange tranny obsession. He likes writing about gender issues and now we get a story about a manga artist schoolgirl named FUJIno? Come on

Edit: Also @Kari Kamiya enjoy the ending lol. I read it all in two days like 6 years ago and still get sad thinking about it. One of my favorite manga of all time.

We talking the manga or anime? Because the first run of the anime censored the gore even more. All the gore was covered up with random shadow until the blu-rays were released.
Anime. Was watching it via Netflix.

Then yeah, I'm pretty sure netflix is using the especially bad TV cut. The blu-ray rips are much better. They even did some redraws of questionable frames courtesy of chinese sweat shop workers.

God, imagine if somebody made it into an anime. I can't even begin to imagine how they'd handle all the existentialism, graphic sex, and overall strangeness.

What the fuck, are they seriously using the TV cut for JoJo when the Blu-Rays exist? Good God.

I legit can't see it being animated, and it's not because of its surrealism and explicit sex. Closest we'll get are little fan projects and a fan-made OST that YouTube managed to recommend to me, somehow. Which, if you haven't heard the fan OST yet, is actually pretty good. "Looking for You" slaps.

I thought it was fine enough, considering it was basically his feelings on the kyoani fire.

Finished the series. First off, PRIMAL SCREAM TIME GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH

Second:
I kinda feel like Asano was definitely going for that downer ending but then at the literal last second changed his mind to go with a more bittersweet ending, or his editor had to talk him into it. It's weirdly a lot more hopeful than I expected it to be. It went down a route I had a feeling would happen, just to then do a U-turn. Not mad by it, but I dunno. Just need more time to process it or something.

Asano wanted the reader's final reaction to be just like this:

I think he did a good job personally.

Asano's other ongoing manga, Dead Dead Demon's Dedede Destruction (yes that is the real title) is actually pretty good, I haven't caught up yet though so I can't tell you if it shits the bed.

Site acting so funky has made it a bit hard to keep up.
Naoko Yamada has left Kyoto Animation.

TL;DR The attack on the KyoAni studio has left her scarred and made her leave alongside other talented colleagues of the studio as well as her connections with Science Saru.

In other words, a big fat fall and L to the future of the studio. Prepare the KyoAni griefing thread.
It's pretty understandable that anyone deeply impacted by the event would have trouble working in an area that would constantly remind them, especially in being aware in who is missing. I'm really hoping it doesn't make her quit the industry as a whole because it'd be such a waste of young talent, similar situation for anyone leaving. Curious to see what Kyoani will do.
@Moguro Fukuzou
I really liked RobiHachi! The insert song is addictive:

I wish Shinji Takamatsu directed more anime, his style of comedy just feels right.
Didn't even know it was him doing it, now I understand why the comedy sometimes gave me Gintama vibes.
Well that’s unfortunate.

What would they even adapt for this? One Piece has probably the slowest start of the Big 3 and I find it hard to believe they'll be able to adapt anything amazing in a movie (?) unless they blow right passed all the origin stuff and treat it more like a stand alone similar to most of the One Piece animated films. Also, if it's a live action I just imagine it'll be nightmare fuel in their attempts to adapt the very exaggerated Oda style (especially the powers).
I wonder what's next? Other old Nick Jr. anime? Maybe some of the series that Just for Kids released like Ox Tales or Wowser? Admittedly, even though they have GoShogun I doubt they'll ever put out Macron 1.
Honestly if it's possible I'd love them doing a Blu-ray release for Cybersix since they already did a DVD that came with commentary from some of the original VA, unless they physically can't release a better edition. Even better if they managed to magic the full version of the theme song, which apparently exists just never released, since even the short version is great:

Holy grail is Discotek receiving mysterious tapes in the mail that included the entire unaired Doozy Bots series that they then decided to release.

Binged Sakamoto Days recently. Great series about a retired assassin working in a convenience store. Highly recommended for anyone looking for something shounen-y that avoids or makes fun of tropes.
This was a good find duder thanks for sharing. only on ch24 but it's a fun parody. hopefully it can keep up the upbeat undefeatable assassin who doesn't kill plot and not pitch down into "oops lost his powers" and "bloodbath where everyone you like dies". or at the very least, wrap it up without going into those things.

This week, I was excited to find out that Gambling Apocalypse Kaiji: Omnibus Vol. 3 was going to be released yesterday, only to find out that now it’s temporarily sold out online on retailers like Barnes & Noble, Booksamillion and RightStufAnime. Even Amazon had the same issue, so it’s not just a one sided thing.

Luckily, I still have the first two volumes and since I couldn’t get the third one, I instead bought BLAME!: Master Edition Vol. 1 after wanting to get it for over two years. Now over the Fall season, I’ll have to save money up to get the next five volumes.

I guess it’s a win-win situation.

I just love the idea of an adaptation showing how differently Punpun is animated from everyone else. Or even have a Roger Rabbit type of adaptation. The sex scenes would look weird as all hell but man, that would be a trip.

There's so much potential for something absolutely amazing, but I know deep down in my heart it's probably never going to happen. And if it did, it would be a let down.

I'm glad other people like it since I just stumbled upon it randomly looking for something to read. I should have mentioned that it's not too far along since it only came out this year. I'll hope along side you, because an arc like that would kill it for me. I haven't enjoyed a comedy like this since konosuba.

Writing a manga about writing manga does run the risk of getting self-indulgent. I read through it and had no strong feelings one way or the other. Didn't he have that filmmaker chick in Fire Punch who wanted to see the Star Wars ending and also wanted to be a dude? I don't think he's done that enough to really establish any sort of pattern, but then again maybe he'll start doing more weird shit.

I can't seem to find which it is, but I remember an earlier unpublished work also having a boy with gender issues. Some kind of body swap series? I couldn't get into it so I dropped it pretty fast. Fujimoto likes writing about people who are mentally fucked and suffering. Also by his own words, he has a strange obsession with dominant women bullying him. I love his work, but I think the guy himself should get looked at.

Edit: also, it's still funny to me to write a female self insert who has a questionable relationship with another woman. I mean, Fujino made a series called SHARK KICK in the manga..
@Atatata I have no idea how it's related to the kyoani fire. Did I miss something?

I actually liked the idea behind the character, a tranny that can never transition or die because the parts would just regenerate, waiting for a movie that in reality, wasn't worth it at all.

Edit: It was orgininally released a day after the second anniversary of the kyoani fire, plus while they changed it afterwards, the killer's motivation was originally plagarism, which parallels the arsonist.

I wanted to thank someone for recommending Sakamoto Days. I haven't enjoyed something like this in quite a while. If they ever make anime out of it I only have one request.

Had no idea. I suppose that does change my opinion about it a bit. Honestly I didn't follow the fire very closely.

Also Togata is great. She's one of the best parts of fire punch. The tranny thing just seemed out of nowhere.

I was just checking out a few videos on Punpun because of course I would, and one of the comments mentioned that Satoshi Kon could've made something beautiful with an anime adaptation.

FFFFFFFFUCK, imagine that.
