Haikyuu (volleyball), Slam Dunk (basketball) and Ace of Diamond (baseball) are the standard recomendations. If you want adults, then there's Run with the Wind (track) though I've heard that that one's sort of gay. There's also Giant Killing (soccer), I'm reading that one right now. It's good.

If you change your mind about magical bs then I'd recommend Eyeshield 21 (american football).

Edit: sorry for double posting, am retarded.

there's an anime about a women's running competition. i only watched bits and pieces at suncoast. it had a dumb name and was around the late 90's and early 2000s.

Dear Lord, not him too.
You'd be surprised. He was one of the more vocal against Trump, and seems to act like a general asshole on Twitter. Though how much of that is because of his Jersey-born nature, and much of it is because social media brings out the absolute worst of people I don't really know.

Studio Arms (changed to Common Sense in 2017) has declared bankruptcy.

They produced mostly hentai and ecchi/fanservice shows which tend to be pretty trashy, but at the same time, they still made a name for themselves with titles like Kite, Elfen Lied, and Ikkitousen. So it's rather unfortunate.

Now that really sucks, in addition to putting out entertaining fanservice shows they also put out the underrated (and still pretty fanservicey) comedy Girl's High.

Was it Battle Athletes Victory with girls doing track and field (but in the future)? Suzuka would fit that description even better but that anime wasn't produced until 2005.

I think the left side is what Sempai is heating and the right side is what Nagatoro is actually saying. Sempai did admit he fully believes he’s in a Dream right now(“This is gross even for me...”

I know that that's what you're meant to assume, that the visions of Nagatoro as his wife and seemingly also a successful businesswoman from the way she's dressed are all a product of Sempai's feverish mind, but I wouldn't put it past Nagatoro to whisper in his ear to influence his fever dreams since messing with the guy she loves toying with (and probably also loves in other ways) is the main point of the series.

Whomst is this bitch, oh right, with only a minimum of digging you find she got her start with fandubs. "Don't put fandubs on your resume!" says the woman who did voices for Huniepop and Yandere Simulator, which should be MUCH more embarrassing to put on a resume.

What, you want a job in the field of voice acting? Just get connections like I did, it's that easy!

Voice actors jealously guarding their little fiefdoms, the thing about dubs is that for awhile, they were bad to indifferent to OK for most of the previous decades, then there was an uptick in quality in the 90s and Aughts, and nowadays no one is excited to hear the same three professional VAs doing the same two voices for every character like they have the past decade. It felt like there used to he actual effort and care in making a dub, and now they mostly, with increasingly few exceptions, have weak acting and script rewrites to fit current narratives like those hamhanded references to Gamergate and what have you.

Dubs in the 2000s were awesome, then it retracted into being the same handful of actors over and over again and now they've gotten into retarded politics.

It's a shame, as if you ask me there's something special about a good dub.

Fandubs have long existed way before I even heard about anime dubbing. I’m not sure why she would make this an issue, considering that her tweet is getting ratio’d very badly.

Shelley Calene Black, Megan Hollingshead, Kari Wahlgren, Luci Christian, Andy McAvin, Spike Spencer, Bob Pappenbrook, Sandi Fox, etc. Those were the days where you had good voice actors.

Now you have all the woke ones and a crapton of 30 and under crowd which is rather annoying tbh. Why must Cristina Vee, Xander Mobus, Erica Lindbeck, Max Mittleman, etc be in so much shit nowadays

Bryce Papenbrook (Bob's son) is pretty good tbh. And he has as much harassment if not more severe at times than Vic

Aren't a lot of those actors still active?

He's frequently been typecast as "edgy sword-using protagonist, usually dual-wielding," but he's got some good range when he's given a chance to act. I'm guessing he gets harassed due to starring in a lot of shows popular in the West? With a larger fanbase comes more dissenting (or psychotic) voices.

No, it's worse than that. Some retards in AoT fandom, some retards in Demon Slayer fandom & even 1-2 in Ma'Cademia fandom & some other subtard & dubtard fans both in general practically loathe the man. They loathe him so much that they send him death threats & wish death upon his kids (he has 3 kids & they aren't even teens, IIRC) because he became a dub VA like his dad. Like, they didn't wanted him just cancelled, but dead, along with his kids, so they don't do what Bryce did & follow their father's path.

If Weeb Wars didn't existed & then he would've still been the most harassed Anime Dub VA in industry. But since Weeb Wars, Vic Mignogna has gotten more harassment than Bryce, that said, Bryce is still harassed at times & Vic came after Bryce pre-2018.

I watched Ouran High School Host Club knowing pretty much nothing about it expecting it to be a dumb yaoi romantic comedy, and totally was not expecting it to actually have a degree of serious emotional and character depth. The beginning was a bit slow but it picked up for me around ep 5 or so.

Also, I imagine I'm probably one of the few people who watched it without knowing that Haruhi is a girl, which I bet is some sort of accomplishment.
Old comment but Ouran is one of my most loved series to this day and I'd recommend reading the manga afterwards since the anime doesn't cover the whole thing. The director for the anime Takuya Igarashi is a favorite of mine, he has a very clear style that is seen through a lot of his works, like his use of giant arrows to point to things (Ouran, Soul Eater, Bungo). He apparently did the Doremi series and Ashita no Nadja, the latter I've had on my ptw list for a while now.

What are good series about sports, and by that I mean actual sports and not the bullshit magical soccer they call Inazuma Eleven, or bullshit fake sports like ping pong, lacrosse, or figure skating? [I kid, of course, I'm sure there's awesome series about any of these, but I would rather watch something either fun or amusing.]
I've watched a bunch of sports shows, but you better be okay with Fujobaiting since that's a staple of the genre. Some of my favorites (mainly baseball) that haven't been mentioned I think:
  • Big Windup - Baseball anime that spends a lot focus on the games, like multiple episodes on just one, with a strong cast of likable characters.
  • Hanebado - Show about Badminton that's full of melodrama and the MC Ayano going TANOSHII mode in the second half (author does go a bit far wanking over secondary protag Nagisa and her unga bunga tall tomboy smash vs. Ayano's years of intense training). They tried to make audience mad about TANOSHII Ayano but her upset was entirely justified and it made her a much more entertaining character.
  • Sabagebu and Stella C3-bu - I don't know if you count airsoft competitions as a sport but I thought I'd list them anyway. Go Sabagebu if you want more surreal comedy with a MC that is a lovable asshole and Stella C3-bu if you want Spec Ops: The Line anime edition.
  • Tsurune - Japanese archery competitions from Kyoani that focused a surprising amount on the actual sports and competition aspect.
  • One Outs - Baseball anime that's a personal favorite of /a/ that doesn't focus on High school baseball with a super cool MC (so cool that a common comment on /a/ when talking about the show was "wtf I'm gay now" in reference to him). Very interesting series and has an entire arc dedicated to the MC trying to figure out how another team is cheating done in a way that the audience is also given all the clues they need to figure it out too.
  • Major - Baseball series that feels like it'll keep running till the heat death of the universe. Follows MC from a young age as he grows and then focuses on his kid. Haven't watch the full thing myself but it must be popular given it keeps getting seasons.
  • Any of the numerous works by Mitsuru Adachi - All Baseball, he's done a bunch and I've heard all of the are good though follow similar plots. I think people normally recommend Touch or Cross Game as a good first.

Time once again for another out-of-context anime screencap.

Tbh I understand that superpowered bullshit sports aren't everyone's cup of tea but personally I love that shit. Kuroko's basketball is pretty much my fave sports anime for how chuuni it gets.

The Tezuka Cleopatra will be out on BluRay in October through Discotek.

We'll soon have all the Animerama films legally available here, though the first two are barely anything compared to the magnificent last one.

Just read Gantz after hearing someone on Youtube talking about it. Overall I found it enjoyable but had the following key issues (spoiler'd just in case):
1. I felt it was never clearly established what their weapons were capable of. A lot of the times it felt kind of arbitrary whether or not a monster would actually get damaged by their guns/katanas, outside of the fights where they specifically strategize and find a monster's weak spot.
2. There was a whole stretch in the middle that just felt out of place. Basically starting with the introduction of the Kato lookalike who puts on a black man mask and shoots up a train station to harvest more fighters, and ending with the vampire arc that never really went anywhere. It's especially egregious because the inciting incident of the climax is literally just a timer, so you could really cut out this whole middle section without really losing all that much. I liked the beginning and I liked the end, but this stretch in the middle really bogged down the story with stuff that didn't really seem to matter.
3. Everyone just seems so ridiculously casual about "terrorist attacks" happening a few times a week in Tokyo, and multiple people being straight up killed in a school, including two instances of two entire classrooms being completely slaughtered. It's just kind of jarring to see school scenes after that more or less play out as if nothing happened.
4. The actual ending was kinda corny with Kurono facing off against the (giant) alien king in single combat for the fate of humanity.

Most of all though, I felt like the whole last arc is how Iseyama wanted the Kingdom of Marley twist to be like in Attack on Titan.
