Finally got caught up with In/Spectre and Somali, so brief thoughts:

In/Spectre (damn that's such a good name for a series) is a lot of fun. I enjoy the dynamic between Kotoko and Kuro, there's plenty of humor there as she tries to have a stereotypical lovey-dovey romance with him that he's just not built for. Wasn't expecting Saki to actually show up in the series proper, but that just adds to the relationship humor. The main plot is interesting, and I can't wait to see what happens next. The art and animation are very well done too, overall it's definitely one of the better shows this season. also dem big ghost tiddies

Somali...I mentioned how it gave me Ancient Magus' Bride vibes before, and that still holds true. I haven't had a show get me so emotional so regularly since I watched that a few years ago. Seriously, every episode is yanking on my heartstrings. I can only imagine how much harder it would hit if I were a parent myself. There's just so much to love about the series: the characters, the humor, the stories, the art, they're all top-notch. It sucks that it's only running through the end of the season, but the manga is only six volumes long so far so there's probably not a huge amount of material to work with. If I had to recommend only one show this season, Somali would be it.

I'm still behind on Dorohedoro because the sub group I was using stopped updating after the second episode, so I'm gonna swap to a different one and try to catch up this week.

IDK if this is the right place for it, but Misty Chronexia (who surprisingly doesn't have a thread here), made his daughter do a Ahegao (an anime/manga's version of orgasm face):

Which he succeeded in making her do it accurately:

Edit: His Apology:

wasn't Misty also the one who made that ine independent anime that makes RWBY look like FMA Brotherhood?

he made chronexia and the eight seals or at least a single episode before he gave it an indefinite hiatus
Chronexia and the Eight seals is the brain child of Mathieu Brunelle and was originally a novel written by him as a young teenager. Today, the Chronexia and the Eight Seals webseries has been placed on permanent hiatus due to lack of funding.
Given he wrote it as a teen I wouldn't hope much from the story and the animation looked pretty bad

The author of Made in Abyss and movie staff for Dawn of the Deep Soul held a Q&A recently. /a/nons have been busy compiling all the new information. Bold emphasis mine for big game-changing details.
  • Umbra Hands with white coats are the bodies made for battle, and they're armed with really powerful relics.
  • Bondrewd's multiple eyes with the tentacles growing out is a relic.
  • The Umbra Hands acting like robots is just them on "Auto Bondrewd" mode. Otherwise their personalities are intact.
  • Rico has in fact eaten a piece of wall before.
  • The body with four arms is in charge of the Zoaholic.
  • Meinya found the Zoaholic because the relic draws animals to itself.
  • The Zoaholic was calling out to Meinya, and if Meinya had actually gotten to it Riko would have been turned into Meinya.
  • Bondrewd and Nanachi survived the incinerator because Reg set it to not affect living things.
  • Meinya's smell is the smell of Tsukushi's parents' parrot.
  • The Shaker needles fuse with the target's skin and don't actually wound the target.
  • Bondrewd didn't save the Umbra Hands from the scorpion things because having them die to complete Purshka was his plan all along.
  • Bondrewd sees through Nanachi's eyes using another relic (not Zoaholic)
  • Bondrewd was created with the concept of "Frieza who does not get mad"
  • Purshka did know that Bondrewd was doing experiments but didn't know exactly what they were
  • Reg, who is not human, has the most "humanity"
  • Reg's penis getting hard is not a sexual thing, but a biological thing. He has not reached semenarche. Tsukushi says fans are free to change this in fan stuff. (Tsukushi.)
  • They actually wanted to make a cartridge water bottles but ran into issues (unspecified) which resulted in them making the cartridges we have instead
  • Bondrewd's whistle isn't blown into, he clasps his hands around it to keep it in shadow and then strokes it to make it vibrate and make its sound.
  • The scene with Bondrewd taking out the scorpions isn't shown aside from a close-up of his face because he literally was waving his elbows like he was doing the chicken dance.
  • Bondrewd's line congratulating Nanachi on "setting (something" free" upon seeing Mitty's light bulb go out is referring to Nanachi setting herself free, not Mitty.
  • There's a Mitty hidden in the credits. Some people are reporting having founding her "moving from the bottom middle of the screen to the top-left when the Kinema Citrus logo appears".
  • Reg is naked when captured but has his pants on immediately when rescued because Nanachi put them on before picking him up.
  • If you take a close look at the thing Nanachi puts on the Purshka whistle, the top is supposed to look like a green hat.
  • Bondrewd has a tail "because it's cool" (no further explanation)
  • They did not destroy the Zoaholic, respecting Purshka's last wishes that they stop fighting.
  • The lobotomised guys were cut from the movie but they did get as far as having lines recorded
  • Purshka masturbates (Tsukushiiiiiiii.)
  • The toilets have no doors but Purshka and the hands don't care
  • Papa rod is short for "rod used to become a papa", Purshka was taught this in biology/dissection lessons, though she came up with the name herself.
  • Tsukushi says that the first body killed by Reg was actually "for meeting and greeting".
  • There are plenty of people who want to become Umbra Hands
  • Riko is an explicitly Japanese name (implying a Japan parallel exists in the universe)
  • The guy in the flower field was especially powerful. Like the body with the tail, all of the hands with the white coats are tough. They got lucky that the flower field guy wasn't around. He's still alive.
  • The flower field bugs are important.
  • Reg got bugs up his pants (which is how they managed to use one in their first match against Bonbon).
  • Nanachi is warm.
  • Tsukushi talks about Sean Connery's The Rock in Bondrewd's intro scene
  • Riko goes to sleep with her glasses on and Nanachi is the one who takes them off
  • Purshka did know that there were other children around but didn't know what became of them
  • Umbra Hands in "Auto Bondrewd" result in them having "all the information coming in" but also makes them slow. Also called "Cloud Bondrewd".
  • A scorpion stuck its poison up Gueira's (the tall helmet Umbra Hand) ass and melted his guts and this is the "tastiest" way for them to eat prey
  • When the scorpions attacked the Umbra Hands were all in sync mode. Bondrewd brought them along intending on having them killed, to complete Purshka.
  • The track Transcendence is Bondrewd's theme
  • The tail is an "extension" of a relic that becomes part of a body when attached.
  • Riko can only live in the abyss
  • Nanachi and Bondrewd survived the Incinerator blast because Reg set it to not affect living things. The light shrinking is him changing the setting.
  • One of the former children Bondrewd calls by name is "Sumiko" and this is supposed to be a Japanese name, like Riko's. The Japanese are from a country called オース (Ause? Orse?)
  • Tsukushi calls the cartridges bento-bako (lunchboxes)
  • When Bondrewd explains the curses and blessings, Tsukushi says "but is that right? Are the curses really curses?"
  • Bondrewd going "oya oya" during the fight is actually him taunting Reg. Because he succeeded at getting the blessing Bon is actually excited at this point.
  • Gueira's personality was intact all along (though he was in auto mode when he died)
  • Tsukushi's mother watched the movie and said in regards to the scene of Purshka calling Meinya smelly that Tsukushi said the exact same thing in regards to their parrot when he was a child.
  • Reg has infantile traits, and him constantly reacting to Nanachi being fluffy is like a child getting excited without knowing what they're excited about
  • You can tell from the blessed body's last words that Bon doesn't change. Tsukushi took a long time to come up with the lines.
  • They did not destroy the Zoaholic, respecting Purshka's last wishes that they stop fighting.
  • The narration at the end is a white whistle poem.
  • Bondrewd does get hungry and he's the one who created the bland-tasting ration #4. While he doesn't care about taste, he will respond positively if what he had was any good.
  • The Umbra Hands have their name because they (Bondrewd's current body included) are just shadows, the whistle is the light.
  • All of the Umbra Hands are there of their own free will. Some are not even delvers. Some are bounty hunters who came for Bondred's bounty but ended up swayed by him.
  • They instructed Bondred's voice actor to play his dying lines so that he's not in pain, just finding it hard to breathe.
  • Tsukushi also asks "are the blessings really blessings?"
  • The bodies that look hunchbacked are actually not that big and are stuffed with something like cotton? They aren't actually bending over either. When the second body puts on the mask it isn't transforming.
  • Bondold is very excited when pulling the mask off the first body
  • Tsukushi says that Bon really loves all of the children, not just Purshka and Nanachi
  • Bon is very rich and has a lot of relics not seen
  • Tsukushi does straight up say that there are a lot of Japanese in the town above, and that Riko is mistaken for a male Italian name
  • The Incinerator can be fired multiple times during the ten minutes before Reg blacks out
  • Nanachi's punches are soft and do not hurt
  • Hands in auto mode have all of their information go to Bondrewd.
  • The tail is an "extension" of a relic called The Third Arm/Third Works.
  • Bondrewd is a Cloud Bondrewd and because he's a cloud the Abyss does not count him as human.
  • Bondrewd's whistle is not a pair of hands but two of the same hand
  • The group did talk to Bondrewd in between defeating the blessed body and heading down, and that's where they decided on not destroying the Zoaholic, etc. They also traded some stuff and spent a pretty long time there.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, but a camrip will be coming out in a few days, reportedly. The quality is... not half-bad.

EDIT 2: Somebody had directly translated the entire Q&A session. You can come to your own conclusions about what the tidbits mean, but it's worth the read just because Tsukushi behaves, uh... exactly as you'd expect the author of MiA to behave.

Riko can only live in the abyss is a pretty interesting revelation.

Someone in the mainstream anime clique has a sense of humor and isn't trying to inject politics into anime? Color me surprised!

I was interested in Kaguya Sama but......Aniplex whyyyyyyyy WHYYYYY that and Persona are sooo expensive. 😵

Doesn't Aniplex just make the Blu-Rays in Japan and therefore everything's Japan-priced? One anime series I have on DVD that I'd love to upgrade to Blu-Ray would be Kamichu!. The initial North American release was through Geneon so the DVDs were relatively reasonably-priced (although I should've waited for the box set that was released not long after the singles that I think was below half the total price of the singles) but it's an Aniplex show so any re-release for North America on Blu-Ray would almost certainly be through them.

ADDENDUM: I'm afraid that I think the future for those of us in the west who still want to buy anime on physical media will resemble the early through mid 1990s, back when the North American audience for anime beyond the occasional heavily-localized TV dub was a small niche and VHS tapes were often $40 U.S. plus for two to, at most, four episodes (not usually being much cheaper than buying the Laserdiscs, for the handful of domestically-licensed shows where that was even an option). We got around 2 decades where domestically-licensed anime on physical media was mainstream enough to be relatively cheap especially compared to Japan but those days seem to be coming to an end due to the majority of anime fans seemingly going streaming-only.

I know the market for anime on physical media isn't completely dead as I still want it and I know I'm not the only person who does, but it'll be a small sub-niche of anime fandom as a whole and Aniplex's prices may just reflect the new reality for anime on Blu-Ray.

I watched Promare today. Feels like this entire movie was just an excuse to string action scenes together but it was entertaining as hell so I don't mind.
Ngl that info dump during the middle of the movie sorta felt like they read their draft and realized they forgot to explain the plot anywhere.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Galo falling asleep pretty much read like them being self-aware about it but saying "Just go along with it."

Robyn's designs are fun. I fuckin love the senpai one with the YouTube censor as the senpai.

Her videos are actually pretty good. Miles better than Jesuotaku because a. She isn't repetitive and b. She's easy to understand

Does Jesu even still make videos?

A little extra tidbit for ya

Death Parade is fucking amazing. It is a crime it hasn't got a second season. Also with Kira Ginti is testing her; he's presenting her with someone much worse than that guy from CHA to judge. She can't manage it, and has confidence in her convictions, so she 'passes'. But Ginti tests her again in the elevator, saying she'll go wherever that guy from CHA goes because she believes he's a good person, so he sort of 'tricks' her because he was sending him to oblivion ans since she says she'll go wherever he'll go, he sends both of them there. Even though she passed and he never second guesses his judgments, he does just that, which his cat really dislikes and why you never see the cat again

So even that cameo has relevance to the series.

C. She didn't devolve into Joe Dirt.

D. She is an anime fan who doesn't whine about anime being anime.

Least that's what I've gathered the few times I watched her videos. Her voice is kinda grating to me so I don't check her out much, but she seems harmless enough and actually has a passion for anime. I should give her another shot.
