Well shit, Aniwave is apparently no more. :semperfidelis: Guess I'm gonna have to crawl back to GoGoAnime.
NOOOOOOOOOOOO, where will I get Cleopatra dc and all the shit you can't get on fucking nyaa. Fucking jap scumbags, this is probably a result of that lawsuit which the manga companies are planning to file against company M, a manga redistributer. I really really liked aniwave with their ui and shit :(
I've seen some news going around that big licensors (Shonen Jump and Crunchyroll) are putting out surveys asking people about which piracy sites they use. I wonder if that's related. I hope Nyaa doesn't get shut down as a result; that would be years of fansubs and licenses-never anime down the drain. At least there's plenty of good anime on YT and archive.org, but that's not enough -- Anix/Aniwave was the only place to stream Rouran, an anime I was going to watch soon. In the event where all the torrenting sites are no more, I'd hope Discotek gobbles up as many licenses as they can and put them on Crunchyroll, but that could mean annoying unskippable/unblockable ads and dropping licenses that don't get enough views -- that said, most Sunrise shows are too expensive for Discotek to license, so there will still be plenty of unlicensed anime that probably won't get DMCA'd.

I hated Gyo, it was so cheap and poorly directed. Why there is almost no horror animated series made in japan. Animation in general lack in horror department for some reason, independent\festival movies are an exception but those arent as accessible to normal people.
Episodic horror doesn't seem to do that well in general sadly, although TV is much better served. Movies and games are sadly the realm of motion horror.

Nyaa itself has too many problems for me, akin to KAT.ph. The files are too big, all of them are 1080p with high quality audio encoding. I was forced to watch Pluto on Aniwave because the Nyaa torrent is 10 GB, for 6 episodes. Cowboy Bebop and Evangelion are both around 20 episodes each roughly and both have torrents from a decade ago which are in 720p and 3.17 GB each. Theyre not of bad quality, theyre of very good quality. A lot of the older rarer anime either dont exist on Nyaa or have very low S/L ratios, making them impossible to get. So Aniwave was like a godsend for me, it was like Hanime.tv, it had everything and was not a pain on the browser, I dont know where Im gonna get a site like it ever again.

1. Tokyo Blade Arc (next arc) - Decent Characterization throughout, makes me hate Akane but that's due to personal IRL reasons and probably not the general user experience
2. Music Video Arc - Expands on the Supernatural, Aqua goes on the back burner at the end, Ruby becomes the main character.
3. Broadcast TV Arc? - Its Ruby's world and we're all just living in it. Its pretty good, starts to tie up a lot of lose threads that are pretty dope
4. Movie Arc - Where we at now. Shit getting real. Manga seems like it might be coming to an end soon. Oh and Aqua's the main character again.
Sorry I am bothering you about such an old post but could you tell me how you feel about the manga now? I started reading it recently but I heard that the quality starts declining around halfway through. I'm currently reading the first chapters of what I assume is the music video arc. And why did you hate Akane? I like her so far. I don't mind spoilers.

Sure, no problem.

I didn't really notice a decline in the story until the Movie Arc and the decline is frustrating because it feels unnecessary. Essentially throughout the story narration is provided either by Aqua or Ruby. It keeps you focused on what's happening, explains how the various industries work, and keeps you routed in what's going on and what the characters are thinking, why they're thinking it, and what their plans are.

In the Movie Arc you get no narration from either person. Shit just happens and it is often ignored for dramatic effect and you don't actually see how your favorite characters respond to it. This doubles as frustrating for people because a lot of big reveals happen in here. The biggest being that Aqua and Ruby finally realize who they were in their past lives. Its after this that Ruby makes a very controversial move on Aqua and kisses him which got the anime labelled as an Incest anime because not only did this happen, you don't actually get any of the character's PoV on it, which is only made weirder when like the chapter before the anime was crucifying pedophiles and loli enjoyers as sex offenders.

However at the very end of that Arc you do eventually get Aqua's PoV as a former doctor and he sort of in one chapter sums a lot of shit up. He's not okay with Ruby's behavior, he understands that she views her current life as an extension of her past life and that she is the same person where as Aqua views himself as having been a doctor, died, and is now a completely different person with completely different circumstances to the point that he even considers his past life something that will fade with time and be nothing more than a nagging instinct he had when he was younger.

As to why I hate Akane. Akane is a very good character actor and does a lot of psychological work to imitate people perfectly. She figures out earlier than anyone else that Ai had children in secret and that Aqua and Ruby are those children. In the immediate next arc, she realizes her rival to become Aqua's girlfriend is Kana Arima and worse yet she realizes that Aqua is essentially head over heels for her. Rather than just accept defeat and move on, Akane decides to do the most mentally ill and manipulative thing by telling Aqua he has to stop seeing her, because his mother had a boyfriend and look how that went for her.

This causes Aqua to refuse to act on any of his feelings towards Kana out of literal fear for her life and instead settles for Akane, who knows he's settling, comments on him settling, but considers it fine because she got her way. I have known women who would do that shit in real life. It sets my teeth on edge, because those sorts of people, male or female are fucking dangerous.

**EDIT**

I got to work and realized there was more I wanted to say about Akane and why I don't like her. For instance a thing happens where Aqua believes that his father has been dead for a long time and allows himself to start to live a normal life. Akane figures out early on that there's something Aqua missed and that his father is still alive, and then decides to not tell him, and attempt to murder Aqua's father before he can get a chance to.

This is what ultimately kills their "relationship" because she just decides that she's gonna steal Aqua's one goal he has, lie to him about it, and then literally commit murder. The bitch is absolutely cracked.

I also wanted to expand a bit more on people's claims the quality has gone down in another way: I think a lot of the claims come from people who are too invested in the shipping wars.

Most of the fans want Aqua to end up in a relationship with Kana, Akane, or if you're a gooner faggot Ruby. They have made years of head canon justifying why Aqua should be with whomever they pick and often ignore important details in the story to justify this. Then when the story doesn't go their way they get very angry.

For instance, Akane's fans often scream and bitch that Kana has done nothing to deserve Aqua liking her and that its bad writing. However they are happy to ignore that throughout the entire story Aqua has just liked Kana. Its not more complicated than that. They get along, they're attracted to one another, and he just likes spending time with her. They don't need some dramatic show of affection that "wins" the ship war or whatever, but because those tropes haven't happened, a lot of the fanbase is very fucking angry.

The guys on /m/ who obsess over that are super autistic; I highly doubt my viewing experience will be negatively effected by the HORROR of watching anime that has slightly lower-quality encoding. And also, I just checked Nyaa, and it doesn't have all episodes of Webdiver :( (this is because the sub group uploaded their subs to their YT, which is now down). Fortunately, GoGoAnime does have all of Webdiver, so I guess I'll use that, but if Webdiver's subs were to be lost, it would probably never get resubbed since people tend to hate that show due to the CGI (it even appeared on a troll rec chart once, sadly). Ironically, now it would be nice if we had the Web Knights to protect obscure anime subs from being destroyed.

I assumed something like that was going to happen, Akane was going to stick around for a while longer so it would have felt weird if Aqua really managed to break up with her on the bridge, and she was already established as obsessive. I think if it's handled well enough she will still be a good character but, like you said, a horrible person. It's a shame though, the chapter in which Aqua and Kana go out was really cute.

To be fair it is a bit questionable that they would side with the girl who sounds like she is forcing Aqua to stay with her.
EDIT: But I wanted to add that Aqua is at fault too for having lead Akane on, when they visited Takachiho for example.

And thank you for the detailed reply.

I just read that not only Aniwave shut down, but also Anix.to shut down as well. Those were my two favorite emergency anime piracy websites. Thankfully, hianime.to is still running, but I have no clue as to how long.

Also, the news is spreading on the anime based torrent websites:

When I tried clicking on searching for the eighth episode of Oshi no Ko on Anix, I was then greeted with this:

A message posted on Aniwave’s website reflected on the site’s closure:

Now that everything has improved… it is also time for us to say goodbye. It is difficult to part with something we have invested so much effort and passion into, but it is something we need to do.

The message concluded by encouraging users to transition to legal services, stating, “If possible, please use legal paid services. It’s something we should do to show our respect for creators and content producers.

Someone on X even showed the websites that were shut down in the process because of this situation:

You were not wrong on that. Torrentfreak even pointed this out:
This event follows a broader trend of crackdowns on piracy sites that have targeted the Fmovies network and its affiliates, leading to speculation that this shutdown could be connected to the actions of the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), a global anti-piracy coalition.

ACE has been actively targeting anime piracy sites, with a notable recent success being the takedown of Animeflix.

Animeflix, which operated out of Finland and attracted between 7 and 13 million visits per month, was shut down earlier this year. The site, which offered more than 500 anime movies and over 400 series, has now been redirected to the “Watch Legally” page on the ACE website.

More details regarding the shutdowns are probably going to come out in the coming days.
In addition to the actions by ACE, the Japanese Content Overseas Distribution Association (CODA) also reported the shutdown of 13 anime piracy sites in Brazil as part of “Operation Anime 2.”

This operation, part of a broader initiative called “Operation 404” in collaboration with the Brazilian government, targeted piracy sites that specialized in Japanese anime content.

The sites, which implemented geo-blocking to avoid detection by Japanese rights holders, were accessible primarily to Brazilian viewers with Portuguese subtitles.

The shutdown affected 16 sites that collectively generated around 21 million monthly visits. Three of these sites were identified as animeshouse.net, animesbr.cc, and meuanime.io.

So, this isn’t just happening in Japan; it’s also happening in Brazil. It should not also be a coincidence that recently Elon Musk announced news that he is taking the office operations of X out of Brazil due to the ongoing censorship laws that have been largely concocted by the government they have running over there.

Either way, manga websites have also been shut down and crushed because of this, but I hope it doesn’t affect the manga websites I regularly read. Inevitably, if it does, then I just hope new websites can replace them with stronger pushback against it. Only time will tell.

Watching Tower of God fans complain about the anime quality is funny.

No shit it went down. The studio producing it previously was stupidly well known and expensive and more episodes were needed, of course they were going to go with someone cheaper.

Season 1 obviously was not that good a succsess otherwise it would not have taken 4 years for a Season 2.

New Fate/ manga was announced to start and they also announced that the longest running manga from Fate is also ending

I think that's the makings of a good story though. I don't want a perfect and pure Akane or Aqua. Life isn't perfect. I just have a visceral adverse reaction to Akane, also I think a thing that sort of matters between the two is they have like a 6 month long relatively health relationship before Aqua figures out that Akane is lying to him which sort of doesn't help.

And thank you for the detailed reply.
You're very welcome, any time.

Just fucking sad. Piracy literally kept me entertained as a kid when i was stuck in Illinois with no cable. I didn't even know it was piracy. I just wanted to watch Bakugan and Green Lantern. This ain't right man. Feels fucking wrong.

Nyaa already 'died' once and afaik someone else basically uploaded the entire site which is what the new one is. Just seed your dang torrents and it probably wont go anywhere even if the site itself does

If you've edited videos or played with video formats on vlc, you'll know that the higher bitrate the audio component has, the larger the video is by at least a factor of 2. Modern day videos have a sound bit rate of around 72-80 while in the 2010s they had 56-60. There has been a general increase in the average file sizes across softwaredom but for videos that increase has been around 25-50%, sometimes 2 times. That's not good cause that carried 700mb movies to somewhere around 1.3 GB and for shows that excessively inflates a shows size despite having a negligible increase in quality. Pluto at 720p should be at maximum 5 gb for 6 one hour episodes instead of 10. From the normie perspective where people reject ownership and stream everything, this isn't a problem because disk size and optimization don't matter. For people who pirate and generally want to own digital media, this is a terrible thing cause it means everything will continue to bloat in size with little to no reason to. Which is why I go so hard against file size increases for all digital media, autistically so, autistic enough that I got mass downvoted on the piracy subreddits 7 years ago for saying this about games. "Just get new hardware bro, just get better drives bro" if i can have evangelion, bebop, 2 seasons of black lagoon and two Ghibli movies for the size of Pluto, I'm going to chose the former cause it's more stuff.

Is Cereal Experiments Lain good if you're not a tranny?

It looks interesting but literally every single person I ever knew who spoke highly of it either trooned out or moved to Seattle (same thing).
The creator is a qanon fanatic. Trannies seethe. People can troon out watching any female centric anime including perfect blue and angel cop. That doesn't mean the anime itself is tranny material.
